Wrap Around Coat Sweater and Cap
Directions are for size 6 to 8 with any changes for sizes 10 to 12 and 14 to 16 in parentheses.
Set requires about 24 (24, 28) ounces
Color A and about 4 ounces each of Colors B and C.
We suggest using Brunswick Yarn company's Germantown Knitting Worsted.
Use one pair each sizes 6 and 8 standard knitting needles and crochet hook size D.
sc (single crochet)
psso (pass slip stitch over)
Gauge: 9 sts in stockinette equal 2 inches
6 rows equal 1 inch
SWEATER-Back: With A and size 6 needles, cast on 83 (89, 98) sts.
Work k 1, p 1 in ribbing for 6 rows, fasten off.
Change to size 8 needles and in stockinette, work solid color stripes as follows:
Work 4 rows with B,
2 rows with C,
4 rows with B.
Work key stripe, following chart 1.
NOTE: Carry color not in use loosely across on wrong side, catching it when carried over more
than 4 sts.

Note: At underarm seams there will be a slight deviation in design.
Follow charts carefully.
When design is completed, work solid color stripes (B, C and B) as before AND AT SAME TIME dec 1 st each end of needle every 8th Row 4 times 75 (81, 90).
When stripes are completed, join A and work in stockinette until entire piece measures 20 inches from beginning.
Raglan Armholes: Bind off 3 (3, 4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Dec Row: K 2, sl 1, k 1, psso (a dec), k to last 4 sts, k 2 tog (a dec), k 2.
P 1 Row.
Repeat last 2 rows until 23 (25, 28) sts remain. Bind off for neck.
Left Front: With A and size 6 needles, cast on 64 (68, 72) sts.
Row 1: P 1, k 1 across 50'(54, 58) sts, p 1, k 6, sl 1, k 6 (front border and facing).
Row 2: P 13, k 1, work across in established ribbing pattern.
Repeat these 2 rows twice (6 rows of ribbing).
Fasten off A, change to size 8 needles, join B and work 50 (54, 58) sts in solid stripe bands same as back, working front border 14 sts in A throughout front.
Follow chart II and work key stripe.
Work solid color stripes (B, C, B) as before, dec 1 st at arm edge on first Row and every 8th Row 3 times more. When color stripes are completed, drop B and C, join A and work on 60 (64, 68) sts until entire piece measures 2 inches less than back to underarm.
Neck Dec: Work to last 16 sts, k 2 tog, work to end.
Repeat neck dec every 4th Row 3 (3, 4) times, then every other Row 16 (18, 19) times AND AT SAME TIME bind off 3 (3, 4) sts at side edge.
Work raglan dec at same edge every other Row 23 (25, 26) times.
Bind off the p 1 st of front border.
Work 13 sts of border as established for 2 ½ inches.
Right Front: With A and size 6 needles, cast on 64 (68, 72) sts.
Row 1 (Right side): K 6, sl 1, k 6, p 1 (front border), k 1, p 1 in ribbing across.
Row 2: Work in ribbing to last 14 sts, k 1, p 13.
Repeat these 2 rows twice (6 rows in ribbing).
Change to size 8 needles and work to correspond to left front, reversing placement of all shaping and following key stripe chart 111.
To Dec at Neck: Starting at front edge, work 14 sts (front border), sl 1, k 1, psso, work to end.
Sleeves: With A and size 6 needles, cast on 38 (40, 44) sts. K 1, p 1 in ribbing for 6 rows. Change to size 8 needles and stockinette and inc 1 St each side every 8th Row 8 (9 10) times. Work even on 54 (58, 64) sts until entire piece measures 17 or desired length.
Raglan Sleeve Cap: Bind off 3 (3, 4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Work raglan dec as on back until 2 sts remain. Bind off.
Belt: With A and size 6 needles, cast on 14 sts.
Work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 50 inches. Bind off.
Belt Loop: With A and Size 6 needles, cast on 3 sts. k 1, p 1, k 1 and work these sts in ribbing until piece measures 2 inches. Bind off.
Finishing: Sew sleeves to back and front armholes. Sew underarm seams
Weave or sew ends of front border bands together and sew to back of neck.
Fold facing on sl St of front border and hem to wrong side of sweater. Sc across lower edge of sweater and around wrist edge of sleeves. Block to size.
CAP: Starting at lower edge, with A and size 6 needles, cast on 112 sts.
Work in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 3 inches.
Change to stockinette and work 4 rows with B,
2 rows C,
4 rows B,
6 rows A,
4 rows B,
2 rows C,
4 rows B.
With A, work until length from last Row of ribbing is 5 inches.
Shape Crown-Row 1: * K - 12, k 2 tog, repeat from * across 8 dec.
Row 2 and All Even Rows: P each st.
Row 3: * K 1 1, k 2 tog, repeat from * across 8 dec.
Continue in this manner to dec 8 sts evenly spaced every other Row until 40 sts remain, fasten off, leaving a 10-inch length of yarn.
Using a darning needle, draw this length through remaining sts, pull tightly and fasten securely.
Sew back seam. Fold ribbing in, half to wrong side and sew loosely in place.
Make a large pompon and fasten to top of cap.
NOTE-Size 6-8 (Back): Follow broken line on chart (80 sts) and include the 3 sts shown for right-hand edge 83 sts.
