Women's Pullover Fishermen Knit

These directions are for small size (32-34). Changes for medium size (36-38), large size (40-42) and extra large size (44-46) are in parentheses. For men's sizes advance one step. Example -- women's medium size (36-38) is men's small size (36-38).

MATERIALS
BERNAT BLARNEYSPUN (50 g balls)
-- 17(19-23-25)    ( 75 yards per ball)
OR ANY EQUIVALENT KNITTING WORSTED WEIGHT YARN THAT WILL GIVE THE SPECIFIED STITCH GAUGE
1 pair each BERNAT-Aero straight knitting needles Nos. 3 and 6 (3.25 mm and 4.25 mm) OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES THAT WILL GIVE THE SPECIFIED STITCH GAUGE
1 set BERNAT-Aero dp needles No. 3 (3.25 mm) 1 BERNAT-Aero cable stitch needle

GAUGE: 6 sts = 1 inch 8 rows = 1 inch

EXPLANATION OF ABBREVIATIONS USED IN PATTERN STITCH FOR BACK AND FRONT
K 1 B - K in BACK of next st.
RC 2 - skip next st, k next st, k skipped st.
LC 2 - skip next st, k in BACK of next st, k skipped st.
BC 4 - sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in BACK of work, k next 2 sts, k 2 sts from cable needle.
BT 3 - sl next st onto cable needle and hold in BACK of work, k next 2 sts, p st from cable needle.
FT 3 - sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, p next st, k 2 sts from cable needle.

Row 2: K 15(9-17-21), p 4, (k 7, p 4) 6(8-8-8) times, k 15(9-17-21).


Row 3: (K 1 B, p 1) 6(3-7-9) times, k 1 B, p 2, LC 2, RC 2, [p 6, BT 3, FT 3, p 6, LC 2, RC 2] 3(4-4-4) times, p 2, k 1 B, (p 1, k 1 B) 6(3-7-9) times.


Row 4: K 15(9-17-21), p 4, [k 6, p 2, k 2, p 2,
k 6, p 4] 3(4-4-4) times, k 15(9-17-21).


Row 5: (K 1 B, p 1) 6(3-7-9) times, k 1 B, p 2, RC2, LC2, [p5, BT3, p2, FT3, p5, RC2, LC 2] 3(4-4-4) times, p 2, k 1 B, (p 1, k 1 B) 6(3-7-9) times.


Row 6: K 15(9-17-21), p 4, [k 5, p 2, k 4, p 2,
k 5, p 4] 3(4-4-4) times, k 15(9-17-21).


Row 7: (K 1 B, p 1) 6(3-7-9) times, k 1 B, p 2, LC2, RC2, [p4, BT3, p4, FT3, p4, LC2, RC 2] 3(4-4-4) times, p 2, k 1 B, (p 1, k 1 B) 6(3-7-9) times.


Row 8: K 15(9-17-21), p 4, [k 4, p 2, k 6, p 2,

Row 10: K 15(9-17-21), p 4, [k 3, p 2, k 8, p 2, k 3, p 4] 3(4-4-4) times, k 15(9-17-21).


Row 11: (K 1 B, p 1) 6(3-7-9) times, k 1 B, p 2, LC 2, RC 2, [p 2, BT 3, p 8, FT 3, p 2, LC 2, RC 2] 3(4-4-4) times, p 2, k 1 B, (p 1, k 1 B) 6(3-7-9) times.


Row 12: K 15(9-17-21), p 4, [k 2, p 2, k 10, p 2, k 2, p 4] 3(4-4-4) times, k 15(9-17-21).
Repeat these 12 rows for pattern stitch for back and front.

BACK: Using smaller straight needles, cast on 100(110-126-134) sts. K 1, p 1 in ribbing for 2 inches. Change to larger needles and work even in pattern st until piece measures 15 ½ (16-16½-17) inches, ending with a wrong side Row. 

SHAPE FULL-FASHIONED RAGLAN ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 1(1-5-4) sts. 

Row 3: K 2, p 2 tog, work to last 4 sts, p 2 tog, k 2. 

Row 4: P 3, work to last 3 sts, p 3. 

Repeat the last 2 rows 33(33-34-34) times more, ending with Row 4. 

ON MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA LARGE SIZES ONLY: 

Row 1: K 2, p 3 tog, work to last 5 sts, p 3 tog, k 2. 

Row 2: Repeat Row 4. 

Repeat the last 2 rows 1(2-4) times more. ON ALL SIZES: Sl remaining 30(32-34-36) sts onto a holder.

FRONT: Work to correspond to back until 40 (40-50-54) sts remain, ending with a right side Row. 

SHAPE NECK: Work 13(13-14-15) sts, sl center 14(14-22-24) sts onto a holder, join another ball of yarn and work last 13(13-14-15) sts. 

Working on both sides at once, dec 1 st at each arm edge every other Row in same manner as before 5 times more, and AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY ROW 8(8-9-10) times. Fasten off.

SLEEVES: Using smaller straight needles, cast on 42(44-46-48) sts. K 1, p 1 in ribbing for 2 inches. P the next Row, inc 12(14-12-14) sts evenly spaced across Row -- 54(58-58-62) sts. 

change to larger needles and work as follows: 

Row 1: (K 1 B, p 1) 1(2-2-3) times, p 1, RC 2, LC 2, [p 7, BC 4, p 7, RC 2, LC 2] twice, p 1, (p 1, k 1 B) 1(2-2-3) times. 

Row 2: K 3(5-5-7), p 4, (k 7, p 4) 4 times, k 3(5-5-7). 

Row 3: (K 1 B, p 1) 1(2-2-3) times, p 1, LC 2, RC 2,
[p 6, BT 3, FT 3, p 6, LC 2, RC 2] twice, p 1,
(p 1, k 1 B) 1(2-2-3) times. 

Row 4: K 3(5-5-7), p 4, [k 6,p 2, k 2, p 2, k 6, p 4] twice, k 3(5-5-7). 

Continue in this manner to keep 44 sts in pattern st and remaining sts in pattern as established, inc 1 st each end of needle every 1(1, ¾, ¾) inch 15(15-19-20)times, forming new patterns as sts are inc. 

Work even on 84(8896-102) sts until piece measures 18(18½-19-19½)inches, ending with a wrong side Row.

 SHAPE FULL-FASHIONED RAGLAN CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 1(1-5-4) sts. 

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 of back shaping 32(36-38-38) times -- 18(14-10-18) sts. 

ON SMALL, MEDIUM AND EXTRA LARGE SIZES ONLY: 

Row 1: K 2, p 3 tog, work to last 5 sts, p 3 tog, k 2. 

Row 2: Repeat Row 4. 

Repeat these 2 rows 7(0-1) times more. ON ALL SIZES: Sl remaining 10 sts onto a holder.

FINISHING: Sew sleeves to back and front armholes. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. NECKBAND: With right side facing you, using dp needles, pick up and k 88 (92-96-100) sts around neck edge, including sts from holders. K 1, p 1 in ribbing for 3 inches. Bind off loosely in ribbing. Fold neckband in half and hem to wrong side.
