Learn to exchange this knit pattern to crochet

These directions are for small size (32-34). Changes for medium size (36-38), large size (40-42) and extra large size (44-46) are in parentheses. For men's sizes, advance one step. Example: Women's medium (36-38) is men's small (36-38).

PATTERN STITCH: To be worked on 32 sts as designated.

Row 1: P 6; sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, k 2, k 2 sts from cable needle (FC 4); (p 1, k 1) 6 times, FC 4, P6.

Row 2: K 6, p 4, (p 1, k 1)6 times, p 4, k 6. 

Row 3: P 5; sl next st onto cable needle and hold in BACK of work, k 2, p st from cable needle (PRC 3); sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, k 1, k 2 sts from cable needle (KLC 3); (p 1, k 1) 5 times, PRC 3, KLC 3, p 5.

Row 4: K 5, p 3, k 1, p 2, (p 1, k 1) 5 times, p3, k 1, p2, k5.

Row 20: K 2, p 2, (k1, p 1) 4 times, p 2, (k 1, p1) twice, p 2, (k 1, p 1) 4 times, p 2, k 2. 

Row 21: P 2, PLC 3, (k 1, p 1) 3 times, KRC 3, (p 1, k 1) twice, PLC 3, (k 1, p 1) 3 times, PRC p2.

Row 28: K 6, p 4, (k 1, p 1) 6 times, p 4, k 6.

Repeat these 28 rows for pattern stitch.

BACK: Using smaller straight needles, cast on 87(99-103-115) sts. 

Row 1: P 1, * k in BACK of next st (K1B), p 1, repeat from * across Row. 

Row 2: K 1, * p 1, k 1, repeat from * across Row. Repeat these 2 rows for 1 ½  (1 ½, 3 ½,  3 ½) inches, ending with Row 1. 

Change to larger needles and p, inc 7 (7-11-11) sts evenly spaced across Row - 94 (106-114-126) sts. Then work as follows: 

Row 1: (K 1, p 1) 3 (3-5-5) times, k 1, * p 2, [sl next st onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, k 2, k st from cable needle (LT 3); sl next. 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in BACK of work, k 1, k 2 sts from cable needle (RT 3)] 2(3-3-4) times, LT 3, p 2 *, LT 3, p 2, put a marker on needle, work row 1 of pattern st on next 32 sts, put a marker on needle, p 2, LT 3, repeat between *'s once, k 1, (p 1, k 1) 3(3-5-5) times. 

Row 2: (P 1, k1) 3(3-5-5) times, p 1,* k 2, p 15(21-21-27), k 2 *' p 3, k 2, work Row 2 of pattern st on next 32 sts, k 2, p 3, repeat between *'s once, p 1, (k 1, p 1) 3(3-5-5) times.

Row 3: (P 1, k 1) 3(3-5-5) times, p 1, * p 2, k 15(21-21-27), p 2 *, LT 3, p 2, work row 3 of pattern st on next 32 sts, p 2, LT 3, repeat between *'s once, p 1, (k 1, p 1) 3(3-5-5) times. 

Row 4: (K 1, p 1) 3(3-5-5) times, k 1, * k 2, p 15 (21-21-27), k 2 *, p 3, k 2, work  

Row 4 of pattern st on next 32 sts, k 2, p 3, repeat between *'s once, k 1, (p 1, k 1) 3{3-5-5) times. 

Row 5: (K 1, p 1) 3(3-5-5) times, k 1, * p 2, (RT 3, LT 3) 2(3-3-4) times, RT 3, p 2 *, LT 3, p 2, work row 5 of pattern st on next 32 sts, p 2, LT 3, repeat between *'s once, k 1, (p 1, k 1) 3(3-5-5) times. 

Row 6: (P 1, k 1) 3(3-5-5) times, p 1, * k 2, p 15(21-21-27), k 2 *, p 3, k 2, work row 6 of pattern st on next 32 sts, k 2, p 3, repeat between *'s once, p 1, (k 1, p 1) 3(3-5-5) times. 

Row 7- (P 1, k 1) 3(3-5-5) times, p 1, * p 2, k 15(21-21-27), p 2 *, LT 3, p 2, work row 7 of pattern st on next 32 sts, p 2, LT 3, repeat between *'s once, p 1, (k 1, p 1) 3(3-5-5) times. 

Row 8: (K 1, p 1) 3(3-5-5)times, k 1, * k 2, p 15(21-21-27), k 2 *, p 3; k 2, work row 8 of pattern st on next 32 sts, k 2, p 3, repeat between *'s once, k 1, (p 1, k 1) 3(3-5-5) times. 

Continue in this manner to keep 32 sts between markers in pattern st and remaining sts in pattern as established until piece measures 16(16-17½-17½) inches, ending with a wrong side row. 

SHAPE RAGLAN ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 2(3-3-4) sts. Working in pattern as established, dec 1 st each end of needle every other Row 28(27-25-25) times, ending with a wrong side Row - 34(46-58-68) sts. ON MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA LARGE SIZES ONLY: Dec 2 sts each end of next Row and repeat this dec every other Row (2-5-7) times more. ON ALL SIZES: Sl remaining 34(34-3436) sts onto a holder.

FRONT: Work to correspond to back until 48(54-60-64) sts remain, ending with a right side row.

SHAPE NECK: Work 14(17-20-21) sts, sl center 20(20-20-22) sts onto a holder, join another ball of yarn and work last 14(1720-21) sts.

Working on both sides at once, continue to dec 1(1-1-2) sts at each arm edge every other row 7(4-1-7) times more, and AT THE SAME TIME, at each neck edge dec 1 st every other row 5 (4-1-5) times. ON MEDIUM AND LARGE SIZES ONLY: Dec 2 sts at each arm edge every other Row 3(6) times, and AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge every other Row 1 (4) times. ON ALL SIZES: Bind off remaining 2 sts of each side.

PATTERN STITCH FOR SLEEVES: To be worked on 51(51-63-63) sts as designated. 

Row 1: * (LT 3, RT 3) 2(2-3-3) times, LT 3 *, p 2, LT 3, p 2, (k 1, p 1) 3 times, k 1, p 2, LT 3, p 2, repeat between *'s once.

Row 2: P 15(15-21-21), k 2, p 3, k 2, (p 1, k 1) 3 times, p 1, k 2, p 3, k 2, p 15(15-21-21).

Row 3: K 15(15-21-21), p 2, LT 3, p 2, (p 1, k 1) 3 times, p 3, LT 3, p 2, k 15(15-21-21). 

Row 4: P 15(15-21-21), k 2, p 3, k 2, (k 1, p 1) 3 times, k 3, p 3, k 2, p 15(15-21-21).

Row 5: * (RT 3, LT 3) 2(2-3-3) times, RT 3 *, p2, LT3, p2,(k l, p 1)3times, k l, p2, LT3, p 2, repeat between *'s once..

Row 6' Repeat Row 2.

Row 7: Repeat Row 3.

Row 8: Repeat Row 4.

Repeat these 8 rows for pattern stitch for sleeves.

SLEEVES: Using smaller straight needles, cast on 41(41-49-49) sts. 

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 of back ribbing 10 times. 

Then repeat Row 1. 

Change to larger needles and p, inc at even intervals to 55(55-65-65) sts. Work as follows: 

Row 1: K 2(2-1-1), put a marker on needle, work Row 1 of pattern st on next 51(51-63-63) sts, put a marker on needle, k 2(2-1-1). 

Row 2: P 2(2-1-1), work Row 2 of pattern st to next marker, p 2(2-1-1). Keeping 2(2-1-1) sts each end of needle in stockinette st, work remaining sts in pattern as established for 7 rows more. 

On the next Row inc 1 st each end of needle and repeat this inc every 6th Row 10(13-11-14) times more, working inc sts in stockinette st and remaining sts in pattern as established. 

Work even in pattern as established on 77(8389-95) sts until piece measures 18(18 ½-19, 19 ½) inches, ending with a wrong side Row. 

SHAPE RAGLAN CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 2(3-3-4) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other Row 24(26-2527) times. Then dec 2 sts each end of needle every other Row 4(4-6-6) times. Sl remaining 9 sts onto a holder.

FINISHING: Sew sleeves to back and front armholes. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. 

NECKBAND: With right side facing you, using dp needles, pick up and k 96(96-100-100) sts around neck edge, including sts from holders. Round 1: * P 1, k 1 B, repeat from * around. Round 2: * P 1, k 1, repeat from * around. Repeat these 2 rounds 8 times more. Bind off loosely in ribbing. Fold neckband in half and hem to wrong side.
