 Simple V-Neck Pattern for

Men and Boys

The pattern I  have fits bust/chest measurements for these sizes-  26/28, 30/32, 34/36, 38/40, 42/44, 46/48  This pattern calls for DK weight yarn and sizes 6 and 3 knitting needles.  Thanks.> Omi omiterp@cut.net 
 

This vest pattern is from England so it uses centimeters instead of inches.

Materials-  DK weight yarn (50 gm) skeins; 4-9 depending on what size you knit.
Knitting needles- sizes 3 and 6 or size needed for gauge.

Gauge-  22 sts and 28 rows to 10 cm (4 in.) over stockinette st on size 6 needles.

Working Abbreviations-
1x1 Rib.
1st Row. *K1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1.
2nd Row. *P1, k1, rep from * to last st, p1. Rep 1st and 2nd rows.
St-st. Stocking Stitch. *1st Row. knit.  2nd Row. Purl. Rep from *.

FRONT
Using size 3 needles, cast on 89 (99-111-121-133-143) sts, work in 1x1 rib for 5 (5-8-8-8-8) cm, ending with a ws Row.
Change to size 6 needles and proceed in st-st until front measures 35 (37-39-40-39-40)cm, ending with a ws Row.
 

SHAPE ARMHOLES AND DIVIDE FOR NECK
Next Row. Cast off 5 (5-5-5-7-7)sts, k 36 (41-47-52-56-61)sts, k2tog, turn.
Leave remaining 45 (50-56-61-67-72) sts on a stitch holder. Working on these 38 (43-49-54-58-63) sts only, proceed as follows--
Next Row. Purl.
**Work the next 9 (13-19-23-25-29) rows as follows--
Dec 1 st at armhole edge of next and every following alternate Row 5 (7-10-12-13-15) times AT THE SAME TIME.
Shape neck as follows-- Dec 1 st at neck edge of 2nd and every following 3rd Row 3 (4-6-8-8-10)times.  30 (32-33-34-37-38)sts. Work 29 (28-25-27-28-30) rows continue to dec at neck edge only as set to 20 (22-24-25-27-28) sts.

Continue without shaping until armhole measures 18 (19-22-24-27-29)cm, ending with a ws Row. Cast off.**

With rs facing, working on rem 45 (50-56-61-67-72) sts, slip next st onto a thread, rejoin yarn to rem 44 (49-55-60-66-71) sts and proceed as follows--
Next Row. k2tog, k to end.
Next Row. Cast off 5 (5-5-5-7-7) sts, purl to end. 38 (43-49-54-58-63) sts. Work from ** to **.
 

BACK
Using size 3 needles, cast on 89 (99-111-121-133-143) sts, work in 1x1 rib for 5 (5-8-8-8-8)cm, ending with a ws Row. Change to size 6 needles and proceed in st-st until back measures 35 (37-39-40-39-40) cm, ending with a ws Row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES. Cast off 5 (5-5-5-7-7)sts at beg of next 2 rows.  79 (89-101-111-119-129) sts.

Work the next 9 (13-19-23-25-29) rows as follows-- Dec 1 st each end of next and every following alternate Row 5 (7-10-12-13-15) times. 69 (75-81-87-93-99) sts.

Continue without shaping until armholes measure 18 (19-22-24-27-29) cm, ending with a ws Row. Cast off.
 

NECKBAND
Join right shoulder seam.  With rs facing, using size 3 needles, pick up and knit 45 (47-55-61-67-75) sts evenly along left side of neck, knit st at center of V, 46 (48-56-62-68-76) sts evenly along right side of neck and 29 (31-33-37-39-43) sts from back of neck. 121  (127-145-161-175-195) sts.

Commencing with 2nd Row of 1x1 rib proceed as follows--
1st Row. Rib to center 3 sts, insert needle purl wise through back of 2nd st then 1st st and slip both sts off needle tog, purl next st then pass 2 sl sts tog over purl st, rib to end.

2nd Row. Rib to center 3 sts, insert needle knit wise into 2nd st then 1st st and slip both sts off needle tog, knit next st then pass 2 slipped sts tog over knit st, rib to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd Rows 2 (2-3-3-3-3) times.  109 (115-129-145-159-179) sts. Cast off in rib.
 

ARMHOLE BANDS (Both Alike)
Join left shoulder and neckband seams.  With rs facing, using size 3 needles, pick up and knit 101 (105-115-127-137-149) sts evenly all-round armhole edge.  Commencing with 2nd Row of 1x1 rib work 7 (7-7-9-9-9) rows.  Cast off in rib.

FINISHING
Join side and armhole band seams.
