Size.4 and 6 Needles

American Standard No.3 and 5

Material--Knitting Worsted. 6 ounce's, brown. 6 ounce's beige, 2 ounce's, for the beret.

7 Buttons. 

Gauge--5 ½ sts to 1 inch.

Back--With Beige yarn, No. 3 needles, cast on 68 sts (72 sts, size 6), K 1 st, P 1 st for 2 inches.

Change to No. 5 needles, K 1 Row, P 1 Row, for 8 inches (8 ½ inches, size 6), from start.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.

Now K 2 sts tog at end of every K Row and P 2 tog at end of every P Row, thus decreasing 1 st at end of every Row, until you have 20 sts (22 sts, size 6), bind off for back of neck.

Left Front--With No. 3 needles.

Cast on 34 sts (36 sts, size 6), K 1 st, P 1 st for 2 inches.

Change to No. 5 needles, K 1 Row, P 1 Row for 8 inches (8 ½ inches, size 6).

Bind off 4. sts at underarm, now P 2 tog at armhole edge on every purled Row, until you have 20 sts left (22 sts, size 6).

Now K 2 tog at end of K rows and P 2 tog at end of purled rows, until all sts are decreased.

Right Front--Work to correspond to left front.Sleeves--With Beige, and No. 3 needles, east on 36 sts (38 sts, size 6) K 1, P 1 for 2 inches.

Change to No. 5 needles, *K 1 Row, P 1 Row, for 1 inch, inc 1 st on each end, repeat from * until sleeve measures 9 inches, 50 sts (10 inches, size 6).

Work 1 inch even or desired length to underarm.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, K 2 tog at end of K rows, P 2 tog at end of Purled rows, until 4 sts remain, bind off.

Band--With No. 3 needles and Brown yarn, cast on 6 sts, K 8 rows (4 ribs). K 2, bind off 2, K 2. On next Row, cast on 2 sts over those bound off, K 16 rows (8 ribs), make another buttonhole in same manner.

Work 5 more buttonholes 16 rows apart, work even until piece measures completely around jacket.

Finishing--Sew sleeve seams and side seams, insert sleeves to back and fronts.

Sew band around jacket, starting at left front, having stitching on wrong side and stretch band while sewing.

No. 910

Starting at back, with brown, No. 3 needles, cast on 68 sts (72 sts, size 6), K 1 st, P 1 st for 2 inches.

Change to No. 5 needles, K 1 Row, P 1 Row, for 8 inches (8 ½ inches, size 6), from start.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.

Now K 2 sts tog at end of every K Row and P 2 tog at end of every P Row, thus decreasing 1 st at end of every Row, until you have 20 sts (22 sts, size 6), bind off for back of neck.

Left Front--With No. 3 needles, cast on 39 sts (41 sts, size 6), K 5, K 1 st, P 1 st, for ¾ inch, always keeping first and last 5 sts K for garter st border.

Work buttonhole as follows: Starting at border edge, K 2, bind off 2, K 1, follow ribbing across Row.

On next Row, cast on 2 sts over those bound off.

Follow ribbing and border until ribbing measures same as for back and work buttonholes in same manner, 1 ½ inches apart, 6 more times.

Change to No. 5 needles, K 1 Row, P 1 Row for 8 inches, (8 ½ inches, size 6), always keeping 5 K sts on Purled rows for border.

Bind off 4 sts at underarm, now P 2 tog at sleeve edge every purled Row, until you have21 sts left.

Bind off 5 sts at neck edge and K 2 tog at end of K rows and P 2 tog at end of Purled rows, until all sts are decreased.

Right Front--Work to correspond to left front, omitting buttonholes.

Sleeves--With Beige, and No. 3 needles, east on 36 sts (38 sts, size 6) K 1, P 1 for 2 inches.

Change to No. 5 needles, *K 1 Row, P 1 Row, for 1 inch, inc 1 st on each end, repeat from * until sleeve measures 9 inches, 50 sts (10 inches, size 6).

Work 1 inch even or desired length to underarm.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, K 2 tog at end of K rows, P 2 tog at end of Purled rows, until 4 sts remain, bind off.

Finishing--sew sleeve seams and side seams, insert sleeves to back and fronts.

Band With No. 3 needles, on right side, pick up 70 sts (74 sts, size 6), K 1, P 1 for 5 rows, bind off, K 1, P l.

BERET

With No. 5 needles, cast on 8 sts, P back.

Row 2--Inc in each st (16 sts),

P back..

Row 4----*inc 1 st, K 1 st, repeat from *across Row (24 sts).

P back,

Row 6---*Inc 1 st, K 2 sts, repeat from *across Row.

Continue in this manner, having 1 more st between each increase, until you have 16 sts between each increase.

K 1 Row,

P 1 Row without increasing.

Now decrease in same manner as you increased, * K 2 sts tog, K 16, K 2 tog, repeat from *across Row,

P back.

Decrease in this manner having 1 st less between each decrease for 5 more K rows.

K 1 Row on purled side (hem),

then K 1 Row, P 1 Row for inch, bind off loosely.

Turn back ½ inch hem and sew or K 1, P 1 for 5 rows, bind off K 1, P 1.

Block flat.
