2 Knit Towel Tops
TERRY KITCHEN TOWEL
(Knit Pattern)
Each towel requires a small amount of 4-ply worsted weight yarn, 1 pair of # 6 standard knitting needles, a size E crochet hook (for picking up sts from towel), cotton bias tape in matching color and a button Cut towel in half, bind cut edge with bias tape. Using an ice pick, create 67 evenly-spaced holes directly below bias tape. With right side facing, pick up 1 st in each hole and slide onto a knitting needle.
K 67 sts.
Row 1 and all Odd numbered rows: Purl all sts.
Row 2: Knit all sts.
Row 4: Sl 2 sts as if to K, K sl sts tog, K 63, K 2 tog - 65 sts.
Row 6: Sl 2 sts as if to K, K sl sts tog, K 61, K 2 tog - 63 sts.
Row 8: *K 5, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 54 sts.
Row 10: *K 4, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 45 sts.
Row 12: *K 3, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 36 sts.
Row 14: *K 2, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 27 sts.
Row 16: *K 1, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 18 sts.
Row 18: *K 2 tog, rep from * across - 9 sts.
Work in rib (K 1, P 1) for 3", ending with a wrong side.
Row worked.
Next Row: K 1, P 1, K 1, bind off 3 sts, K 1, P 1, K 1.
Next Row: P 1, K 1, P 1, cast on 3 sts, P 1, K 1, P 1 (buttonhole made).
Work 3 rows even, end wrong side.
Next Row: K 2 tog, Rib 5, K 2 tog - 7 sts.
Next Row: K 2 tog, Rib 3, K 2 tog - 5 sts.
Last Row: K 2 tog, P 1, K 2 tog, bind off rem 3 sts.
Sew button to front of towel opposite buttonhole. Weave in any ends.

KNITTED TOWEL Materials: size #10 or #10 ½ needles, 1 skein cotton worsted yarn,
button to match yarn.
Cast on 64 sts and knit 3 rows. (this is the border)
Row 1: (the first 3 sts and the last 3 sts on each row will be knitted for the side borders) *k4 p2 rep from * ending k4.
Row 2: * p4, k2, rep from * across.
Rep rows 1 and 2 twice more.
Row 7: rep Row 2.
Row 8: rep Row 1.
Rep rows 2 and 1 twice more. This completes one pattern.
Do a total of 8 patterns then start the shaping.
Sshaping:
Row 1: k2 tog across--32 sts.
Row 2: knit across.
Row 3: k2 tog across--16 sts.
Row 4: knit across.
Row 5: k2 tog k to last 2 sts, k2 tog. (14 sts).
Knit 19 rows even.
Row 25: Rep Row 5 of shaping. (12 sts).
Row 26: k6, yo, (for buttonhole) k6.
Row 27: knit across.
rows 28, 29, 30: rep Row 5--(6 sts).
Bind off and sew button on. I usually tie it on with the same yarn I used to knit the towel.
