Materials: 4 ply (worsted weight) yarn. Main color (MC), Contrasting color (CC).

Size H hook or size needed for gauge.

Gauge: Finished size = 6" square.

With CC, ch 4, Join to form ring.

Rnd. 1: Ch 3, 15 dc in ring. Join to beg. Ch-3. (16 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, ch 2, skip next st, * 3 dc in next st, ch 2, skip next st, rep from * 6 times more; join to beg ch-3, finish off.

Rnd 3: Join MC with sc in any ch 2 sp, working in front of same ch-2, tr in skipped dc 2 rows below, [to work tr, YO twice, insert hook from front to back in stitch indicated and pull up lp, (YO and draw thru 2 lps on hook) 3 times] sc in same ch-2 sp as first sc made, ch 3, skip next 3 dc * in next ch-2 sp work (sc, tr in skipped dc 2 rows below before, sc) ch 3, skip next 3 dc: rep from * 6 times more; join to beg sc.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, (equals first hdc) hdc in each of next 2 sts, * + in next ch-3 sp work (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) corner made, hdc in each of next 3 sts, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp, + hdc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * 2 times more than rep from + to + once; join to beg ch-2, finish off.

Rnd 5: Join CC with sc in any corner ch-3 sp, 2 sc in same sp, * + sc in next 2 sts, FPtr around post of tr 2 rows below, (skip st behind FPtr), sc in next 7 sts, work FPtr around post on next tr 2 rows below. skip st behind FPtr), sc in next 2 sts, + 3 sc in next corner ch-3 sp; rep from * 2 times more then rep from + to + once: join to beg sc, finish off.

Rnd 6: Join MC with slip st in center sc of any corner 3-sc group, ch 3, in same st work (dc, ch 2, 2 dc). dc in each st around working (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner sc: join to beg ch-3, finish off.
