Exchanging knit to crochet

Exchange knitting to crochet or crochet to knitting.

Exchange to crochet

Sizes:   Directions are for small size (8-10). Any changes for medium size (12-14) and large size (16-18) are in parenthesis.

 Fits Bust Sizes: 31-32½ (34-36) (38-40)".

  Materials: Any bulky weight yarn, 5 skeins all sizes. Knitting Needles, 1 pair No. 9 and No. 11, Aluminum crochet hook size K.

  Gauge: On No. 11 needles, 8 sts = ~ rows  3"

  BACK:  Beg at lower edge, with No. 11. needles, cast on 3 sts.

Row 1 (right side);  K in front and back of first st (inc made) , k to within 2 sts from end, inc 1 st in next st, k 1.

Row 2: p in front and k in back of first st (inc),, p to within last st of end, inc 1 st, p 1.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 97 (101 - 105)sts.

Check gauge, piece should be 36 (37½ - 39)" wide.

Dec 1 st at beg of each Row (k 2 tog beg of k Row, p 2 tog beg of p Row) until 59 (63-67) sts remain.

Then dec 1 st at beg and end of each Row until 39 (43-47) sts remain end on a p Row.

Next Row: K 2 tog 6 (2 - 4) times. (K 1, k 2 tog) 9 (13-13) times - 24 (28 - 30) sts.

Collar: Change to no. 9 needles. Work in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 5½ (6 - 6) ". Bind off loosely in ribbing.

FRONT: Work as for back.

FINISHING: Weave or sew side and collar seams tog.

FRINGE: Wind strands around cardboard 4 ½ " wider cut at one end. Fold 3 strands in half. With crochet hook, pull folded ends through lower edge; pull the 6 ends through loop end and tighten. From wrong side, work fringe in every other St around lower edge. Trim evenly.
