Jacket with Hood child's sweater 
exchange to crochet
These directions are written for three different yarn weights.
MATERIALS;
Group B Sport Weight
Sizes 1, 2, 3.
Sport Yarn 2 oz skeins 4, 5, 6.
1 pair each of needles Nos. 3 and 6
2 leather Frogs for closings
GAUGE: 6 sts = 1 inch, 8 rows = 1 inch
Group C worsted Weight
1 oz skeins 6 7 7
4 oz. skeins 3 3 4
1 pair each of needles # 4 and 8
2 leather Frogs for closings
GAUGE: 5 sts = 1 inch, 7 rows = 1 inch.
Group D Bulky Weight
2 oz balls 5 6 7
4oz skeins 5 6 7
I pair each needles # 6 and 10½
2 Leather Frogs for closings
GAUGE: 7 sts = 2 inches, 5 rows = 1 inch
PATTERN STITCH for Borders: multiple of 2 sts.
Row 1: K . * yo, sl 1 as if to p, K 1, repeat from *, end K 2 instead of K 1.
Row 2: K 1. * yo, sl 1 as before, K 2 tog (the y o and the sl st of previous Row) repeat from *, end K 1.
Repeat Row 2 for pattern.
PATTERN STITCH for JACKET and HOOD: Multiple of 2 sts.
Row 1; and 2: knit
Row 3; (right side) * K 1, K next in Row below: repeat from * to end.
Row 4: Knit.
Row 5: * K st in Row below, K 1, repeat from * to end.
Row 6: Knit.
Repeat Rows 3 - 4 - 5 and 6 for pattern stitch.
BACK: With smaller needles cast on..............sts
Group B: 60 (64 - 68), Group C: 50 (54 - 56), Group D: 34 (38 - 40).
Work stockinette st for 1 inch, ending with a P Row (hem).
Change to larger needles and work pattern stitch for jacket for 7 (7½ - 8) inches or desired length to underarm.
SHAPE RAGLAN ARMHOLES: Bind off ....... sts
Group B: 4 (4 - 4), Group C: 3 (3 3), Group D: 2 (2 2).
at beg of each of next 2 rows (once each side). Dec 1 st each side every other Row..........times.
Group B: 15 (16-18) Group C: 13 (14-15) Group D: 9 (10-11).
Bind off remaining ..................sts.
Group B: 22 (24-24), Group C: 18 (20-20), Group D: 12 (14-14).
LEFT FRONT: With smaller needles cast on .......sts.
Group B: 30 (32-34), Group C: 26 (28-30), Group D: 16 (18-20)
Work hem as on back. Change to larger needles and work pattern until same length as back to underarm, ending at armhole edge.
SHAPE RAGLAN ARMHOLE and NECK; Bind off ..... sts from armhole edge once.
Group B: 4 (4-4) Group C: 3 (3-3), Group D: 2 (2-2)
Dec 1 st at armhole edge every other Row...................times.
Group B: 11 (11-13), Group C: 9 (9-10), Group D: 6 (7-8).
Work to front edge. Bind off........sts from front edge once
Group B: 7 (7-7), Group C: 6 (6-6), Group D: 3 (4-4).
Dec 1 st at neck edge every other Row...........times
Group B: 4 (5-5), Group C: 4 (5-5), Group D: 2 (2-3)
and continuing to dec 1 st at armhole edge every other Row until all sts are decreased. Fasten off.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left Front reversing all shaping.
SLEEVES: With smaller needles, cast on.....sts
Group B; 36 (40-42), Group C: 30 (32-34), Group D: 24 (26-28)
Work pattern st for Borders for 1 inch. Change to larger needles and work pattern st for jacket, Inc 1 st each side every 8th Row............................times.
Group B: 5 (5-6), Group C: 4 (5-6), Group D: 3 (3-4)
Work even on.................sts
Group B: 46 (50-54), Group C: 38 (42-46), Group D: 16 (28-32)
until sleeve measures 8 (8½ -9) inches or desired length to underarm.
Shape Raglan Cap: Shape same as on back. Bind off remaining
sts.
Group B: 8 (10-10), Group C: 6 (8-8), Group D: 4 (4-6)
FRONT BORDERS: With smaller needles and with right side facing you, pick up and K 1 at in end of every row on front edge.
Work pattern stitch for Borders for 1 inch, ending on wrong side. Work stockinette st for 1 inch. Bind off.
FINISHING: Turn stockinette st hem at Lower edge and on front borders to wrong side and sew. Sew sleeves to front and back armholes. Sew sleeves and underarm seams.
Hood
With larger needles, cast on......................sts.
Group B: 36 (38-40), Group C: 30 (32-34), Group D: 24 (26-28)
Work pattern st as on back, inc 1 st at one edge (back)
Every ½ inch..................................times.
Group B: 12 (12-12), Group C: 10 (10-10), Group D: 8 (8-8)
Work even on..... sts
Group B: 48 (50-52), Group C: 40 (41-44), Group D: 32 (34-36)
until piece measures 7 (7½ -8) inches. Mark for top of Hood.
Working other half dec 1 st at back edge opposite incs.
Work on
....sts
Group B: 36 (38-40), Group C: 30 (32-34), Group D: 24 (26-28)
until same length as first half. Bind off.
TURNBACK: With smaller needles and with wrong side facing you, pick up and K 1 st in each row on front edge.
P 1 Row, K 1 Row alternately for 1 inch, ending with a K Row.
Work pattern st for borders for 1½ inches. Bind off, working yo and sl st off as one st.
FINISHING: Sew back seam from neck edge to within ½ inch at center top. Sew ½ inch at each side to ½ inch at center top.
Turn back front border for 1¼ inches and sew ends of border to ends of stockinette st rows.
Sew neck edge of hood to neck edge with front edge of hood Border at inside edge of Front Borders, and holding in extra fullness of hood evenly.
Block Sew leather frogs to front so that front borders overlap when Jacket is closed. Sew a snap fastener at neck edge so that front borders of hood meet.
