Gloves with crocheted cuff

Medium Size

Materials Required-AMERICAN THREAD COPANY

"STAR" PEARL COTTON Size 5.

3 Medium Balls of Main Color and 1 Ball of any Contrasting

Color for stripes.

1 Set of Double Pointed Steel Knitting Needles # 15.

1 Crochet Hook Number 8 or 9.

Right Glove: On 3 needles cast on 50 sts (14-18-18)

and K 10 rounds.

Next round begins the thumb: K 1, increase in next st by working into front and back of st, K 1, increase in next st, K to end of round

and K 2 rounds even.

4th Round: K 1, increase in next st, K 3, increase in next st and K even to end of round,

K 2 rounds even.

7th Round: K 1, increase in next st, K 5, increase in next st, K even to end of round,

K 2 rounds even.

Continue increasing in every 3rd round until there are 19 sts between increasing points

and K 2 rounds even.

There should be 34 sts on 1st needle and 18 on other 2 needles.

Next Round; K 1, slip next 21 sts on a thread, cast on 6 sts next to the K 1 and K to end of round.

K 26 more rounds.

For a larger hand add a few more rounds.

First Finger: Mark the beginning of a round with a colored thread.

K 10 sts from the 1st needle, slip 36 sts on a thread leaving 9 sts on the last needle, cast on 5 sts for the gusset.

Arrange these 24 sts on 3 needles and * K 8 rounds.

Next Round: K 12, K 2 together and finish round. Repeat front * 4 times,

and K 4 rounds even.

Next Round: K 1, K 2 together, repeat from * all around a

nd K 1 round even.

Repeat the last 2 rounds once, break thread leaving an end.

Thread the end into blunt pointed needle and pick all remaining sts, draw up tight and fasten firmly on the wrong side.

Second Finger: Pick up 5 sts on the gusset of 1st finger (if needed pick up 1 st to prevent a hole), pick up 7 sts on palm side of glove, cast on 5 sts, pick 8 sts from back of glove (pick up another st if necessary to prevent a hole). Arrange these sts on three needles, repeat directions of first finger from the * adding 1 more round in each repeat to make the finger a little longer and finish same as first finger.

Third Finger: Pick up 5 sts on gusset, 5 sts on palm of glove, cast on 5 sts, pick up 6 sts from back of glove and follow directions for first finger.

Little Finger; Pick up 5 sts on gusset, and the remaining sts on thread.

K 30 rounds even and finish same as tip of other fingers.

Thumb: Pick up 6 sts on gusset and 21 sts on thread (pick up extra st to prevent a hole if necessary. Arrange on 3 needles as follows: Counting front the (enter of the 21 sts leave 9 sts on 2nd, 10 on third and slip remaining sts on both sides of 1st or gusset needle. *

Work 6 rounds.

Next Round: 1st needle, K 2 together at the beginning and end of needle, K to end of round. Repeat from * 3 times.

K 4 rounds even.

Finish tip same as other fingers.

Left Glove: Work same as right glove to the first finger.

First Finger: K the 19 sts from the 1st needle, slip 36 sts on a thread, cast on 5 sts for the gusset (24 sts). Arrange these 24 sts on 3 needles and continue same as 1st finger on other glove. Remainder of the glove is worked same as the right glove.

Crocheted Cuff:

With Main Color crochet 78 sc around edge of glove, join.

2nd Round: Ch 3, 1 dc in same space with joining, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, * ch 3, 1 dc in same space, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * all around. (26 shells) sl st into first ch 3 of row and turn work.

3rd Round: Ch 3, dc in same space, sc in ch 3 of shell, repeat from beginning all around ending last shell in dc of previous row, st st into ch 3 of 1st shell and turn work.

End each row and turn each row in same manner.

Work 3 more rows in Main Color, 2 rows in Contrasting Color, 5 rows Main Color, 2 rows Contrasting Color, 4 rows Main Color.

Cord: With Contrasting Color ch 24 and work 23 sl sts on ch, break thread, leaving an end to slip through glove. Work a second cord. Slip cords through glove and tie.
