Girl's Dress in knit and crochet         

Convert this to crochet

Crochet dress pattern is below knitted dress.

Yellow = crochet, blue = knit  

Girls Dress

KNITTED  Sizes 1 and 2.    
This Dress can be made with the following:                             
"DAWN" DACRON or
"DAWN" NYLON SOCK AND SWEATER YARN
4 (5) oz.  Lt.  Blue or Baby Blue or color desired.
1 pr. each knitting needles No. 1 and No. 2.
Steel crochet hook No. 2.
4 buttons.

Directions are given for size 1. Size 2 is given in brackets.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch.

BACK: On No. 2 needles cast on 147 (156) sts and K 11 rows. 

Work in pattern as follows:
1 st and 3rd Rows.  K across each row.

2nd Row.  P across row.

4th Row. * K 1, Y 0, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.

5th and 6th Rows.  K across each row.  Repeat these 6 rows for pattern.

Work even in pattern until back measures 9 (9 ½) inches from beginning ending with 2nd row of pattern. 

Change to No. 1 needles and work as follows:

Next Row.  K 1, P 1, * K 2 tog, P 2 tog, repeat from * 6 times, * K 2 tog, P 1, repeat from * 28 (31) times, * K 2 tog, P 2 tog, repeat from * 6 times, K 1, P 1, 90 (96) sts.  Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 1 (1¼) inches. 

Change to No. 2 needles and work in pattern for 1 (1½) inches.

Next 2 Rows.  Bind off 4 (5) sts at beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st on each side every other row until 72 (78) sts remain, ending on wrong side.

Next Row.  Divide sts for back opening, work across 36 (39) sts, place remaining 36 (39) sts on a holder for left side.

Work even in pattern on 36 (39) sts until armhole measures  3¼ (4) inches from lst decreasing point ending at armhole edge, discontinue pattern.

Next Row.  Bind off 8 sts at beginning of row. 

P 1 Row.

Repeat last 2 rows.

Next Row.  Bind off 6 (8) sts at beginning of row. 

P 1 Row.

Bind off remaining 14 (15) sts for back of neck.

LEFT SIDE: Slip the 36 (39) sts from holder and work same as right side reversing the decreasing and shaping.

FRONT: On No. 2 needles cast on 147 (156) sts and work same as back to underarm.

Shape armholes same as back armholes.  Omitting the back opening, work even in pattern until armhole measures 2¼ (2½) inches from lst decreasing point ending on wrong side.

Next Row.  Work across 27 (29) sts and place on a holder, work across next 18 (20) sts and place on another holder for neckline, work across remaining 27 (29) sts. 

Work 1 Row even.

Next Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row (neck edge), then decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row until 22 (24) sts remain.  Work even in pattern until armhole measures same as back armhole, discontinue pattern.

Bind off shoulder same as back shoulder. 

Slip the 27 (29) sts from holder and work same as opposite side, reversing the decreasing and shaping.

SLEEVES: On No. 1 needles cast on 66 (70) sts and work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for ¾ inch, increasing 3 (5) sts on last row of ribbing 69 (75) sts. 

Change to No. 2 needles and work in pattern until sleeve measures 2 (2½) inches from the beginning.

Next 2 Rows.  Bind off 4 (5) sts at beginning of each row,

then decrease 1 st on each side every other row until 43 (45) sts remain,

then decrease 1 st on each side every row until 23 (25) sts remain ending on wrong side.

Next Row.  K 1, * K 2 tog, repeat from * across row, bind off.

BACK OPENING: With right side toward you, attach yarn at lower end of opening and work 21 (25) sc up side, ch 1, turn. 

Work 2 more rows of sc, cut yarn. 

Attach yarn at top of opening on right hand side and work 21 (25) sc ch 1, turn.

Next Row. * 1 sc in each of next 3 (4) sc, ch 2 for buttonhole, skip 2 sc, repeat from * 3 times, 1 sc in next sc, ch 1, turn and work 1 sc in each sc, working 1 sc in each ch of buttonholes, cut yarn. 

Sew lower end over lapping right side over left side.

Block each section.  Sew seams and sew sleeves in position,


NECKBAND: With right side toward you on No. 1 needles, pick up and K 16 (17) sts across back, 16 sts on side of neck, slip and K 18 (20) sts from holder, pick up and K 16 sts on opposite side of neck, pick up and K 16 (17) sts across remainder of back, 82 (86) sts.  Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for ¾ inch, bind off. 

Sew buttons in position.

This Dress can be made with the following:
The Famous "PURITAN" CROCHET COTTON, Article 40 or "DE LUXE" Quality CROCHET COTTON, Article 346 5 (6) balls Lt.  Yellow or color desired.
Steel crochet hooks No. 1 and No. 4. 3 buttons.

Directions are given for size 1. Size 2 is given in brackets.

SKIRT BACK: Starting at top with No. 1 hook, ch 157 (174), 1 dc in 4th St from hook, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts of ch, * skip 2 sts of ch, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts of ch, 3 dc in next St of ch, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts of ch, repeat from * 7 (8) times, skip 2 sts of ch, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts of ch, 2 dc in last St, ch 4, turn.

2nd Row.  Skip 1 dc, dc in next dc (ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc) 3 times, * skip 2 dc, dc in next dc (ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc) 3 times, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice, (ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc) 3 times, repeat from * 7 (8) times, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc (ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc) 3 times, ch 1, dc in 3rd St of end ch, ch 3, turn.

3rd Row.  dc in same space with ch 3, * (dc in next loop, dc in next dc) 3 times, dc in next loop, skip 2 dc, dc in next loop, (dc in next dc, dc in next loop) 3 times, 3 dc in next dc repeat from * across row ending last repeat with dc in end loop, 2 dc in 3rd St of end ch, ch 4, turn.

Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows until back measures 10½ (11½) inches from beginning, ending with 3rd row, cut thread. 

Work front section in same manner.

BODICE: Front: With No. 4 hook ch 75 (83), dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining St of ch, ch 3, turn.

Next Row.  1 dc in each dc ch 1, turn.

Next Row.  sl st across next 4 (5) sts for armhole, ch 3, 1 dc in each dc to within last 4 (5) sts, ch 3, turn.

Next Row.  1 dc in each dc 60 (70) sts, ch 3, turn.  Repeat last row until front measures 2¼ (2½) inches from beginning.

Next Row.  1 dc in each of next 20 (22) dc ch 3, turn.  Work even in dc over 20 (22) sts until front measures 3¾ (4¼) inches from beginning ending at armhole edge, ch 1, turn.

Next Row.  Shoulder: 1 sc in each of next 7 dc 1 s dc in each of next 7 dc, 1 s dc: thread over hook, insert in St, pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time), 1 dc in each remaining dc cut thread.  Skip next 24 (26) dc for neck, attach thread in next dc ch 3 and work opposite side to correspond reversing the shaping and decreasing.

BACK: Left Half: With No. 4 hook ch 39 (43), dc in 4th St from hook, 1 dc in each remaining St of ch, ch 3, turn.

Next Row.  1 dc in each dc ch 3, turn.

Next Row. 1 dc in each dc to within last 4 (5) dc (armhole), ch 3, turn.  Work even in dc until back measures same as front to shoulder ending at armhole edge, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. 1 sc in each of next 7 dc 1 s dc in each of next 7 dc, 1 dc in each remaining dc cut thread.

Right Half.  Work same as left half reversing the decreasing and shaping.

SLEEVES: With No. 4 book ch 53 (57), dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, ch 3, turn.

Next Row. 1 dc in each of next 8 (10) dc, increase in each of next 34 dc, 1 dc in each remaining 8 (10) dc, 84 (88) dc, ch 3, turn.

Work even in dc over 84 (88) sts until sleeve measures 1 ½ (1 ¾) inches from beginning, ch 1, turn.

Next Row.  sl st over next 4 (5) dc, 1 dc in each dc to within last 4 (5) sts, ch 3, turn.

Next Row.  sl st across next 3 dc, ch 3, 1 dc in each dc to within last 3 dc, ch 1, turn.

Repeat last Row until 22 (24) sts remain, cut thread.

Sew shoulder seams across 20 (22) dc, leaving 11 (12) dc free on each side for back of neck.

Sew side and sleeve seams.

Sew sleeves in position easing in fullness at top.

Sew side seams of skirt. 

Gather top of skirt and sew to bodice. Crochet a row of sc on each side of back opening, cut thread. Attach thread at lower edge of back opening and work a row of sc up left side, across neck edge, down right side, working three ch 3 loops for buttonholes, cut thread. 

Sew buttons in position.
