Girl's Patterned Dolman

INTERMEDIATE
Here is a girl's knit sweater in soft, easy wash acrylic and nylon.
You will need 5 (6, 6, 7) balls Patons "Diana," available in 50 gram balls (81 yards per ball),
 knitting needle numbers 7 and 10, or size required to obtain given gauge.      

  Directions are given for children's size 4 with changes for sizes 7, 10 and 12 in parentheses. To Fit Chest: 24 (26, 28, 30) inches

Measurement Above Ribbing: 24 (26¼, 28¼, 30½) inches

Gauge: 15 sts equal 4 inches 20 rows equal 4 inches in stockinette.

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

FRONT: **With smaller needles, cast on 45 (49, 53, 57) sts.

Work in ribbing as follows:
Row 1: (Right Side) K 1, *p 1, k 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: P 1, *k 1, p 1, repeat from across.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for 2½ inches, end row 2.

Change to larger needles and pattern as follows:
Row 1: (Right Side) P 4, *yo, p 2 tog, p 2, repeat from * to last St, p 1.

Rows 2 and 4: K 4, *p 1, k 3, repeat from * to last St, k 1.

Rows 3 and 5: P 4, *k 1, p 3, repeat from * to last St, p 1.

Row 6: K.

Row 7: P 2, *yo, p 2 tog, p 2, repeat from * to last 3 sts, yo, p 2 tog, p 1.

Rows 8 and 10: K 2, *p 1, k 3, repeat from * to last 3 sts, p 1, k 2.

Rows 9 and 11: P 2, *k 1, p 3, repeat from * to last 3 sts, k 1, p 2.

Row 12: K.

Repeat Rows 1 through 12 for pattern, shaping sides by inc one St each end of next row, then each end of needle every 4th row until there are 49 (55, 57, 65) sts.

Work 1 Row.  Inc one St each end of next row, then each end of every right side row until there are 69 (69, 81, 85) sts.

Work 1 Row.**

Divide for Neck:
Shape Sleeve: Keeping continuity of pattern, cast on 4 sts beginning of next row, work across cast on sts, work across 32 (32, 38, 40) more sts, k 2 tog, turn and put remaining sts on holder - 37 (37, 43, 45) sts.

Work 1 Row. 

ast on 6 (4, 6, 4) sts beginning of next row, work to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.

Work 1 Row. 

Cast on 6 (6, 8, 6) sts beginning of next row, work to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.

Work 1 Row - 47 (45, 55, 53) sts.

Sizes 7, 10 and 12 Only: Cast on 8 sts beginning of next row, work to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.

Work 1 Row - (52, 62, 60) sts.

Size 12 Only: Cast on 10 sts beginning of next row, work to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.

Work 1 Row - (69) sts.

All Sizes: Dec one St at neck edge every right side row until 38 (43, 52, 60) sts remain.

Work even until approximately 15½ (15½, 16½,17½) inches from beginning, end with pattern row 6 (6,12, 6). Bind off loosely.

With right side facing, leave center St on holder, join yarn to remaining sts, k 2 tog tbl, work to end.  Complete to correspond to first side, reversing shaping.

BACK: Work same as front from ** to **.

Shape Sleeves:
Cast on 4 sts beginning of next 2 (4, 2, 4) rows, then 6 sts beginning of next 4 (2, 2, 2) rows - 101 (97, 101, 113) sts.

Sizes 7, 10 and 12 Only: Cast on 8 sts beginning of next (2, 4, 2) rows - (113, 133, 129) sts.

Size 12 Only: Cast on 10 sts beginning of next 2 rows - (149) sts.

All Sizes: Work even until 4 rows less than front have been worked to bind-off sts, end pattern Row 2 (2, 8, 2).

Divide for Neck:
Work across 40 (45, 54, 62) sts, turn and put remaining sts on holder. 

Dec one St at neck edge every row until there are 38 (43, 52, 60) sts. 

Work 1 Row.

Bind off loosely.

With right side facing, leave center 21 (23, 25, 25) sts on holder.

Join yarn to remaining sts, work to end. 

Complete to correspond to first side, reversing shaping.

Finishing:
Neckband: Sew right shoulder and upper sleeve seam. 

With right side facing and smaller needles, pick up 22 (22, 24, 24) sts along left front neck edge, k the St at center, mark center St, pick up 22 (22, 24, 24) sts along right front neck edge, pick up 2 sts along right back neck edge, k across 21 (23, 25, 25) sts of back, dec one St at center, pick up 2 sts along left back neck edge - 69 (71, 77, 77) sts.

Work in ribbing as follows:
Row 1: (Wrong Side) *P 1, k 1, repeat from * to 2 sts before center St, p 2 tog, p 1, p 2 tog tbl, **k 1, p 1, repeat from ** across.

Row 2: K 1, *p 1, k 1, repeat from * to 2 sts before center St, p 2 tog, k 1, p 2 tog tbl, k 1, **p 1, k 1, repeat from ** across.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 once more, then repeat Row 1 once more.

Bind off loosely in ribbing using larger needle, dec as before.

Sew left shoulder, upper sleeve and neckband seam.

Cuffs:
With right side facing and smaller needles, pick up 25 (25, 27, 27) sts evenly across lower sleeve edge.

Work in ribbing same as front, beginning Row 2, for 2 inches.

Bind off loosely in ribbing using larger needle.

Sew side, lower sleeve and cuff seams.
