BODY CIRCLES: Make 20 circles with (D), 16 with (M) and 16 with (L).
Ch 6, Join in ring with ss, ch 3.
*yoh and draw up a loop through ring as high as the ch 3. (yoh and draw through 2 loops) twice. Repeat from * 23 times more. Join to top of ch 3 at beginning with ss.
This should make a circle approx. 2¼ inches in diameter. Darn in ends.
With (L), ch 3. Join in ring with ss.
1st round: 6 sc in ring
2nd round: 2 sc in each sc of previous round.
3rd round: *2 sc in 1 sc, 1 sc in next sc. Repeat from * to end of round.
4th round: *2 sc in 1 sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Repeat from * to end of round.
5th round: *2 sc in 1 sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Repeat from * to end of round. (30 sc in round).
6th round: 1 sc in each sc of previous round. Repeat 6th round 7 times more.
14th round: *Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc, yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook, thus decreasing 1 stitch. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Repeat from * around and around until about 12 sts remain in round. Fasten off. Stuff lightly. Gather up hole and sew firmly.
With (D) or (M), ch 3. Join in ring with ss.
Working 1 round even after each to make work pointed, work 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds as given for head. Work 1 more round even on the 30 sc. Turn and work 3 rounds for brim. Work 1 ss in next sc. Fasten off. Sew to head aslant. Embroider face on head as illustrated.
TO MAKE UP:
Cut 2 pieces of elastic, one 11 inches long for arms, the other 16 inches long for body and legs.
Mark center of each piece of elastic and sew together, then sew firmly to head.
Threading on circles in order of (D), (M) and (L), thread 3 on over the 4 ends for neck; 10 over each shorter end for arms; 9 over both long ends for body; 10 over each remaining end for legs.
Sew button to each end of elastic to prevent slipping.
