Wide Step Afghan

  Size; 45" x 60"

  MATERIALS: Coats & Clark Red Heart 4 Ply Hand knitting Yarn, 7 ozs. of No. 651 Lt. Olive; 6 ozs, of No. 584 Lavender; 5 ozs. Each, of No. 3 Off White and No. 251 Vibrant Orange: 4 ozs. Each of No. 365 Coffee. No. 818 Blue Jewel. No. 960 Blues, No. 261 Maise, No. 737 Pink. No. 286 Bronze and No. 988 Shaded Tan: 3 ozs, each of No. 331 Bisque, No. 282 Rust and No. 730 Grenadine; 2 ozs each of No. 255 Burnt Orange, No. 86O Medium Navy, No. 12 Black, No. 902 Jockey Red, No. 360 Wood Brown, No. 585 Lilac, No. 987 Browns, No. 602 Dk.GoId, No. 849 Olympic Blue and No.230 Yellow. Crochet hook size F (3¾ mm).

 GAUGE 9 sts = 2"     4 rows = 1"

 AFGHAN; Beg at long edge and leaving 6" end with Coffee, ch 267 having 9 ch sts to 2".

 Row 1 (right side) 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch to last ch, 2 sc in last ch - 268 sc. Ch 1 to fasten. Leaving 6"end, cut strand and pull end through lp.  Do not turn.

  Row 2 Leaving 6" end, with Coffee, make loop on hook, sk first sc, 2 sc in next sc (selvedge made at beg of Row); sc in back lp of each sc across to last 2 sc, sk next sc, 2 sc in both lps of last sc (selvedge made at end of Row). Ch 1; cut as before. Do not turn.

  Note: Start and end each Row in same way as before, leaving 6" ends. Always work from right side.

   Row 3: Make selvedge, sc in back lp of next 4 sc; mark last 2 sc worked; * sc in back lp of next 10 sc, mark last 2 sc worked; repeat from * to last 12 sc, sc in back lp of next 10 sc, make selvedge.

   Rows 4 and 5: Repeat Row 2.

   Row 6: With Maise, make selvedge, sc in back lp of next 2 sc; yo, draw up in a lp in front lp of first marked sc 3 rows below and draw lp to height of Row in work, (yo and through 2 lps) twice (raised dc made); make a raised dc in front lp of next marked sc 3 rows below, * sk the 2 sc behind raised dc's, sc in back lp of next 8 sc, make a raised dc in front lp of each of next 2 marked sc; repeat from * to last 12 sc, sc in back lp of next 10 sc, make selvedge.

   Row 7: Make selvedge, sc in back lp of next 2 sc, * sc in back lp of 2 raised dc,  (raised dc in front lp of next sc 3 rows below) twice, sk the 2 sc behind raised dc's, sc in back lp of next 6 sc, repeat from * 25 more times; sc in back lp of next 2 sc; make selvedge.

  Hereafter, to move the raised dc pat as before, work raised dc groups 1 Row higher than raised dc groups on previous Row and in front lp of next 2 sts to the left. Always sk 2 sc behind each group of raised dc's and work each sc in back lp of st, except for selvedges.

   Row 8: Make selvedge, 4 sc, mark last 2 sc worked, make 2 more sc, 2 raised dc, (8 sc, 2 raised dc) 25 times, 6 sc, selvedge.

   Row 9: With Lt. Olive, make selvedge, (8.sc, 2 raised dc) 26 times, 4 sc, selvedge.

   Row 10: Make selvedge, 10 sc, 2 raised dc, (8 sc, 2 raised dc) 25 times, 2 sc, selvedge.

   Row 11: Make selvedge, 2 sc, raised dc in front lp of each of 2 marked sts 3 rows below, (8 sc, 2 raised dc) 25 times, 2 sc, selvedge. Repeating rows 7-11 for stitch pat, work the following number of rows of color: 3 Lavender, 2 Burnt Orange, 1 Rust, 2 Medium Navy, 1 Black, 3 each of Blue Jewel, Jockey Red, Off White, Wood Brown, Vibrant Orange, Bisque, Blues, Pink, Maise and Lt. Olive; 2 Lavender; 1 each of Lilac, Rust, Burnt Orange, Vibrant Orange, Browns, Bronze. Browns and Medium Navy; 2 Black; 3 each of Blue Jewel, Bronze, Off White, Granadine, Shaded Tan, Lt. Olive, Lavender and Vibrant Orange; 2 Bisque; 1 Shaded Tan, Lt. Olive, Lavender and Vibrant Orange; 2 Bisque; 1 Shaded Tan; 3 each of Blue, Pink, Lilac, Maise, Bronze and Grenadine; 2 Dk. Gold; 1 Maise, 3 each of Lt. Olive, Lavender, Vibrant Orange, Shaded Tan, Olympic Blue and Blue Jewel; 1 each of Rust, Jockey Red and Grenadine; 3 Off White; 2 Wood Brown; 1 Bronze; 3 each of Shaded Tan, Lt. Olive, Lavender and Vibrant Orange; 1 Bisque; 2 Dk. Gold; 2 Olympic Blue; 1 Medium Navy; 3 each of Blues, Rust, Pink and Off White; 1 Browns, 1 Bronze, 1 Browns; 3 each of Lt. Olive, Yellow and Coffee.

   Last 2 Rows: With Coffee, make selvedge, 264 sc and selvedge.

   Fringe: Beg at corner, pick up ends of first 5 rows, make a knot close to edge of afghan. Cut a 12" length of yarn matching color of next 3 rows; draw half the

length through center end st of next 3 rows- 5 strands. Knot strands tog as before. Continue to knot 5 Strands tog every 3 rows to opposite corner. Trim.
