Snowball Afghan


Convert this to knit

Size: Appr. 49" x 70"

Materials: Worsted weight yarn, appr.: MC (blue) - 23 oz., CC (ecru) - 29 oz.
Crochet hook size G and I

Note #1: afghan is worked from side to side.

Note #2: always join yarn and finish off leaving a 9" end for fringe. Cluster: * yo,  insert hk in ch indicated, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through 2 lps on hk; rep from * 2 more times, yo and draw through all 4 lps on hk. Push cluster to right side.

With larger size hk and MC, ch 348. Row 1: (right side): sl st in 2nd ch from hk, ( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next ch) across; finish off: 347 sts.

Note: Mark last Row as right side.

Row 2: with wrong side facing and working in BLO, join CC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next ch) across; finish off.

Row 3: with right side facing and working in FLO join MC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next sl st) across; finish off.

Row 4: with wrong side facing and working in BLO, join CC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next st) twice, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, *( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st) 7 times, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, rep from * across to last 4 sts, ( ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next sl st) twice; finish off; 22 clusters.

Row 5: with right side facing and working in FLO, join MC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next sl st) across; finish off.

Row 6: with wrong side facing and working in BLO, join CC with sl st in first sl st; ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next sl st, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, *( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st) 5 times, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st; rep from * across to last 2 sts, ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in last sl st; finish off; 44 clusters.

Rows 7 - 9: rep rows 3 - 5.

Rows 10 - 13: rep rows 2 and 3, twice.

Row 14: with wrong side facing, working in BLO, join CC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st) 6 times, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, *( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st) 7 times, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, rep from * across to last 12 sts, ( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st) 6 times; finish off: 21 clusters.

Row 15: with right side facing and working in FLO, join MC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next sl st) across, finish off.

Row 16: with wrong side facing and working in BLO, join CC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st) 5 times, * work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st, work cluster in next ch, sl st in next sl st, ( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st) 5 times; rep from * across; finish off; 42 clusters.

Row 17: with right side facing and working in FLO, join MC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next sl st) across; finish off.

Rows 18 - 19: rep rows 14 and 15.

Rows 20 - 23: rep rows 2 and 3, twice.

Rep rows 4 - 23 for pattern until afghan measures appr. 49", ending by working Row 11.

Change to smaller hook.

Last Row - First Edging: with right side facing and working in both lps, join MC with sl st in first sl st; ( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next sl st) across; finish off.

Second Edging: with right side facing and working in free lps of beg ch, join MC with sl st in first ch; ( ch 1, sk next ch, sl st in next ch) across; finish off.
