Short Crochet Scarf
(one end slips through the other to keep scarf from blowing away)
Use 4 ply yarn and a size H crochet hook. Size is for older children and women.
(Try sport yarn and size F hook for younger children.)
ch: chain sc: single crochet
Work in both loops of each Row for the beginning and the ending ends. The body of the scarf is sc in the back loops only, unless otherwise indicated.
(a) chain 17, sc in 2nd ch from the hook, across. Ch 1, turn work (16 sc)
(b) - (d) sc in ea sc across, in both loops. Ch 1, turn work. (four rows of 16 sc)
Row 1: sc in back loop of each sc across. Ch 1, turn work (16 sc)
Row 2 - Row 90: repeat Row 1. Ch 1, turn (16 sc)
The following creates the slit to slide the other end through, when wearing scarf:
Row 91: sc through both loops in each of the next 3 sc, chain 10, skip the next 10 sc, sc through both loops of last 3 sc. Ch 1, turn work.
Row 92: sc through both loops in each of the first 3 sc, sc in each of the 10 chain, sc through both loops in each of the last 3 sc. Ch 1, turn work.
Row 93 -- Row 106: sc in back loop of each sc. Ch 1, turn work.
Ending end, work through both loops.
(a) sc through both loops in ea following sc. Ch 1, turn work.
(b - c) repeat Row (a), working in both loops
(d) sc through both loops in ea following sc. Fasten off. Weave in all ends of yarn.
OPTIONAL: Finish off the free loops in the chain 10 by slip stitching, weave in all ends of yarn.
