Sacque, Hood & Booties Crochet

This Sacque and Booties can be made with the following:
"DAWN" or "CLOVER LEAF"
NYLON or NYLON POMPADOUR or
"DAWN" BABY YARN or
"DAWN" INFANTS WOOL
5ozs. Baby Green or color desired and STAR RAYON CROCHET,
Article 700 1 ball White or any contrasting color for trim.
3 yds. ½ -inch ribbon.
Plastic crochet hook No. 5. Steel crochet hook No. 8.
Starting at yoke with Green and No. 5 hook ch 70, 1 sc, 1 dc in 2nd st from hook, * skip 1 st of ch, 1 sc, 1 dc in next st of (35 patterns), ch 1, ch (pattern), repeat * from across Row turn.
2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th Rows. (right side) Skip 1 st, 1 sc in each st increasing 17 sts evenly spaced, ch 1, turn.
3rd 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th Rows. Skip the first st, 1 sc, 1 dc in next st, * skip the next st,
1 sc 1 dc in next st, repeat from * across Row, ch 1, turn.
13th Row. 1 sc, 1 dc in first sc, * skip next sc, work in pattern in each of the next 2 sc, repeat from * across Row, ch 1, turn ( 111 patterns).
Next 5 Rows. Work even in pattern, cut yarn, turn work. Count over 18 patterns and place a marker, count over 20 more patterns and place a marker. Do the same from opposite side.
RIGHT SLEEVE: Attach yarn in the next sc after first marker, and work in pattern to the 2nd marker (20 patterns), ch 1, turn. Work in pattern until there are 29 rows for sleeve, cut yarn.
Skip the back patterns, attach yarn and work left sleeve in same manner.
Sew sleeve seams on wrong side of work.
BODY: Attach yarn at right front edge, ch 1, work in pattern across front, back and opposite front.
Work even until work measures 6 inches from underarm, cut yarn.
BEADING AT NECK: Attach yarn at right front neck edge and work 1 sc in each st of starting ch having 71 sc, ch 3, turn.
Next Row. dc in each sc across Row, ch 1, turn. Next Row. sc in each dc across Row, cut yarn.
1 st Row: Skip the first 10 sc of beading on right front, attach yarn in next sc, work across in sc to within 10 sc of opposite side. (Make sure there are 51 sc), ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. sc in first sc, ch 4, skip 3 sc, * 1 sc, 1 dc in next sc, skip 1 sc, repeat from * across Row until there are 22 patterns, ch 4, sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
3rd Row. sc in first sc, ch 4, pattern in next sc and continue to work in pattern across Row, ch 4, sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
4th and 5th Rows. Same as 3rd Row.
6th Row. sc in first sc, ch 4, work in pattern over 11 patterns, then work 1 sc, 1 dc in next dc
(an increase of 1 pattern), continue across Row in pattern ending with ch 4, sc in last sc.
7th Row. Same as 3rd Row.
Continue in same manner increasing one pattern in center back of every other Row until there are 24 pattern rows. Then work 1 sc in each st. Fold work in half and crochet the last Row together with a Row of sc on wrong side (center top of hood), cut yarn. Attach yarn at right side of hood and work 1 sc in each st across face edge, ch 1, turn. Working in sc, increase 1 st in every 3rd sc. Work 1 Row of pattern, cut yarn.
EDGING: With "STAR" RAYON CROCHET and No. 8 hook, work 1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 sc, ch 1 in each sc across Row. Work same edging around Sacque and sleeves. Turn up last 3 rows of sleeve edge for cuff. Cut two lengths of ribbon 14 inches long. Tack one on each side of hood, lace through bead-ing at face edge and tie on top. Lace ribbon through dc Row at neck edge and tie. Loop ribbon through each side of front about 2 inches from neck edge and tie in bow as illustrated.
Starting at toe with Green and No. 5 hook, ch 9, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch (8 sc), ch 1, turn.
Next 8 Rows. 1 sc in each sc, then ch 21, join with a sl St in 1 st sc at beginning of last Row, cut yarn.
FOOT: Attach yarn in center St of ch at back of bootie and working across ch, ch 1, sc in same space, 1 sc in each of the next 10 sts of ch, 8 sc down side of instep, 2 sc in corner, 8 sc across front of instep, 2 sc in corner, 8 sc up opposite side of instep, 1 sc in each remaining St of ch, do not join this or following rounds.
Next Round. Work 1 sc in each sc. Repeat the last round 7 times.
Next 3 Rounds. Work in sc decreasing 1 St at center toe and 1 St at center back. Turn work on wrong side and join edges of sole with sc picking up back loop of sts only, cut yarn. TOP: Attach yarn at center back and work a Row of sc all around, join with a sl St.
Next Round. Ch 3, dc in each sc, join all rounds with a sl St. Next Round. Skip 1 sc, work even in pattern all around, ch 1, turn. Repeat last round 7 times more.
Work edge the same as for Sacque and Hood. Lace ribbon through the dc round and tic in bow.
Knitted Block Stitch Baby Set
This Set can be made with the following: "DAWN" or "CLOVER LEAF" NYLON or NYLON POMPADOUR or"DAWN" BABY YARN or"DAWN" INFANTS WOOL
4 ozs. Baby Pink or color desired. 3 yds. 1-inch ribbon.
2 yds. ¼ inch ribbon.
1 pr. knitting needles No. 2.
GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch.
Cast on 84 sts K 7 rows. Work in pattern as follows:
1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th Rows. K 4, * P 4, K 4, repeat from * across Row.
2nd and 5th Rows. P 4, * K 4, P 4, repeat from * across Row. Repeat these 6 rows for pattern. Work even in pattern until back measures 7 inches from the beginning.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of each Row for underarm. Work even in pattern until armhole measures 3 ¼ inches from underarm.
Next Row. Work across next 24 sts, place on a holder, bind off next 28 sts for back of neck, on
remaining 24 sts work even in pattern for 1 inch, ending at neck edge.
Next Row. Cast on 16 sts, work first 6 sts in garter St at front edge all the way down front, work remaining sts in pattern. Work even until armhole measures 6 ½ inches from underarm, ending at armhole edge.
Next Row. Cast on 4 sts at beginning of Row. Work even in pattern until front measures same as back to garter St border. K 7 rows. Bind off. Work other front to correspond, reversing the sliaping.
SLEEVES: With right side toward you, pick up and K 64 sts around armhole, work even in pattern decreasing 1 St on each side every inch 4 times.
Work even in pattern until sleeve measures 6 inches from beginning. K 7 rows. Bind off.
NECKBAND: With right side toward you, pick up 72 sts around neck and K 1 Row.
Next Row. BEADING: K 2, * Y 0, K 2 tog, repeat from across Row ending last repeat with Y 0, K 2. K 7 rows, bind off. Lace wide ribbon through beading. Sew side and sleeve seams.
CAP Cast on 92 sts and K 7 rows. Work in pattern same as on Sacque until work measures 4 inches from the beginning.
Next 2 Rows. Cast on 4 sts at the beginning of each Row,
Next 6 Rows. Work even in pattern, increasing 2 sts on last Row (102 sts).
Next Row. * K 15, K 2 tog, repeat from * 5 times. P 1 Row.
Next Row. * K 14, K 2 tog, repeat from * 5 times. P 1 Row. Continue to decrease in the above manner, having 1 St less between each decreasing point until 42 sts remain. P 1 Row.
Next Row. K 2 tog across Row. P 1 Row. Cut yarn leaving an end long enough to draw through remaining sts, fasten securely. Sew back seam. With right side toward you pick up 70 sts across lower edge of Cap and K 4 rows, bind off. Tie with ribbon ties as illustrated.
Cast on 44 sts and K 7 rows. Then work 16 rows in pattern same as on Sacque.
Next Row. BEADING: K 2, * Y 0, K 2 tog, repeat from across Row. P 1 Row. K 1 Row. P 1 Row.
Next Row. K 17 sts and place on a holder. K next 10 sts for instep, place remaining 17 sts on another holder.
Work 2 inches in garter St (K each Row) on the 10 sts of instep ending on wrong side and place them on a double pointed needle, cut yarn. Slip the 17 sts from 1st holder on needle, attach yarn and pick up 13 sts on side of instep, work 10 sts on spare needle, pick up 13 sts on opposite side of instep, work across remaining sts (70 sts). K 18 rows.
Next 4 Rows. K across each Row decreasing 1 St at beginning and end of each Row, bind off.
ew back and sole seams. Lace ribbon through beading.
Cast on 44 sts and K 7 rows. P 1 Row. K 1 Row. P 1 Row.
Next Row. Work beading same as on Booties.
Next Row. P across Row. Work in pattern same as on Sacque, until mitten measures 4 inches from the beginning. P 1 Row.
Next Row. K 2 tog across Row. Repeat last 2 rows once, cut yam leaving an end long enough to draw through remaining sts, fasten securely. Sew seam. Lace ribbon through beading. Taken from Star Baby Book 1950
