SIZES: Directions are given for medium size.
GAUGE: 1 pattern = 1-½ inch with a No. 5 (American No. 8) crochet hook. MATERIALS: No. 5 hook (American size No. 8); 8 skeins of Phentex (or any 3-ply yarn) as follows:  Poncho: 5 skeins; Hat: 1 skein; Bag: 2 Skeins

PONCHO

Starting at top, ch 76. Join with a sl st to form a ring

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 1 dc in next 2 sts, * ch 2, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next 3 sts *. Rep from * to * (twice), ch 2, sk 2 sts, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same st (front point). Rep from * to * (7 times). Ch 2, sk 2 sts, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same st (back point). Rep from * to * (3 times), ch 2, 1 sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 5, 3 dc in next sp, * ch 2, 3 dc in sp of preceding rnd *. Rep from * to * up to front point, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in center of front point. Rep from * to * up to back point, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in center of back point. Rep from * to * to end of rnd, 2 dc in last space (instead of 3). Join with a sl st.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in space, * ch 2, 3 dc in next space *. Rep from * to * (for back and front points, see preceding rnd), to end of rnd, ch 2, 1 sl st.

Repeat Rnds 2 & 3 until work measures 21 ins. (back and front points 26 inches).

NECK EDGE: Insert hook in center space of back. Ch 3, 4 dc in the same space, 4 sc in the next space, * 5 dc in centre of 3 dc of preceding rnd, 1 sc in next space *. Rep from * to * on round. Join with a sl st.

CORD: Cut 5 lengths of yarn 3 times the required length. Tie one end to a solid object, holding the other end firmly twist tightly, bring both ends together and strands will twist forming a cord. Make a knot at each end. Slip cord through neck edge

FRINGE: Cut several lengths of 7 inch yarn, fold in two, insert fringes around Poncho.

HAT

Starting at top of crown, ch 4. Join with a sl st to form ring

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 15 dc in center of ring. Join with a sl st

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 1 dc in the 1st space, * ch 1, 2 dc in next space *. Rep from * to * (16 pats). 1 sl st.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 1 dc in 1st space, * ch 1, 2 dc in the 2nd space *. Rep from * to * (16 pats). 1 sl st.

Rnd 4: Repeat Rnd 3.

Rnd 5: Ch 2, 2 dc in the 1st space, * ch 1, 3 dc in the next space*. Rep from * to * (16 pats). 1 sl st.

Rnds 6, 7, 8, 9, 10: Repeat Rnd 5

Rnd 11 (Brim): * Ch 3, 1 sc in next space *. Rep from * to *. 1 sl st.

Rnd 12: Ch 2, 1 dc in next space, ch 1, 2 dc I n the same space, * ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc  in the same space*. Rep from * to *, 1 sl st.

Rnd 13: Ch 2, 1 dc in the same space, * ch 1, 2 dc in the next space*. Rep from * to *. 1 sl st.

Rnd 14: Ch 2, 2 dc in space of preceding rnd, * ch 1, 3 dc in centre of 2 dc of preceding rnd *. Rep from * to *, 1 sl st.

Rnds 15, 16, 17: Repeat Rnd 14

Rnd 18: * Ch 2, 2 dc in 1st space, 1 sc in next space *. Rep from * to *. 1 sl st. Fasten off.

BAG

Starting at bottom, ch 100. Join with a sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 1 dc in next 2 sts, * ch 2, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next 3 sts *. Rep from * to *. Ch 2, 1 sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 5, 3 dc in space of preceding rnd, * ch 2, 3 dc in next space *. Rep from * to *. 2 dc in last space, 1 sl st.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in space of preceding rnd, * ch 2, 3 dc in next space *. Rep from * to *, ch 2, 1 sl st.

Repeat Rnds 2 and 3 until work measures 14 inches from beginning.

BAG EDGING: 1 sc in space of preceding rnd, * 5 dc in centre of 3 dc of preceding rnd, 1 sc in next space*. Rep from * to *. Join with a sl st. Fasten off.

ASSEMBLING: Join bottom part of bag with an overcast seam. Line bag with same colour material.

FINISHING: Pin the pieces out to the measurements and cover with a damp cloth. Holding a steam iron about 2 inches above the pieces, pass lightly over, allowing only the steam to pass through the cloth. Leave pinned out to dry
