Pineapple Doily

Convert this pattern to knit
The pineapple motif is a favorite with everyone.  Crochet this set for buffet or vanity or use the pieces separately.  The model was made of number 30 thread and a size 12 steel crochet hook.  White, ecru or a color would be pretty.  The long doily measures about 17 inches in length; the round doily is 10 inches across.  For a larger piece use heavier thread and a larger size crochet hook.

Abbreviations: Ch (chain);  St (stitch);  sl st (slip stitch);  sk (skip);  sp (space);  lp (loop);
SC (single crochet);  dc (double crochet);  tr (treble) -thread over twice,  work off 2 lps at a time;  rnd (round);  p (picot).

Long Doily-Ch 8, join with Sl St in first St to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (for a dc), 23 dc in ring. join with sl st in third ch of ch 3 first made.

Rnd 2: Ch 4 (for a dc and ch 1), * dc in next dc, ch 1, repeat from * around, join last ch 1 to third ch of ch 4 first made.

Rnd 3: sl St over ch 1, ch 3 (for a dc), dc over same ch, 2 dc over each ch 1 sp around, join to third ch of ch 3 first made.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, repeat from * around, join.

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same place, * ch 2, sk 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, repeat from * around, join.

Rnd 6: sl St in dc and into ch 2, ch 3, dc over ch, ch 2, 2 dc over same ch, shell of (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) over each ch 2 around, join.
           
Rnd 7: To begin each of the next 9 rnds, sl st to center of shell, (always ch 3 for first dc of shell) shell in each shell around, join.

Rnd 8: * Shell in shell, ch 2, repeat from * around, join.

Rnd 9: * Shell in shell, ch 3, repeat from * around, join.

Rnd 10: Shell in shell, ch 4, repeat from around, join.

Rnd 11: Shell in shell, ch 4, (2 dc, ch 5, 2 dc) in center of next shell, ch 4, repeat from * around, join.

Rnd 12: * Shell in shell, ch 4, 9 tr in next ch 5 sp, ch 4, repeat from around, join. pinapples begin to form in this rnd.

Rnd 13: * Shell in shell, ch 3, tr in each of 9 tr with ch 1 between each, ch 3, repeat from * around.

Rnd 14: * Shell in shell, ch 3, SC in first ch 1 sp, (ch 3, sc in next sp) 7 times, ch 3, repeat from * around.

Rnd 15: Same as previous rnd with 6 lps across each pineapple.

Rnd 16: * (2 dc, ch 2) twice in center of shell, 2 dc in same shell, ch 5 lps across pineapple,  ch 3, repeat from * around.  sl st across to second Sp.

Now finish 3 pineapples out separately.

Work as follows across three following pineapples.

Rnd 1: Shell in ch 2 sp of first shell, ch 3, * sc in ch 3 lp, 4 more lps across, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 2, shell in next ch 2 sp, ch 3. Repeat from * once, make 4 lps across last pineapple,  ch 3, shell in shell, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 2: Shell in shell, ch 3, sc in ch 3 lp, * 3 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 1,   shell in ch 2 sp, ch 1, shell in shell, ch 3, repeat from * once, 3 lps across pineapple, ch 3,   shell in shell, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 3: Shell in shell, * ch 3, sc in ch 3, 2 lps across, ch 3, shell in center 'of each 3 shells  below with ch 2 be-tween, repeat from * once, ch 3, sc in ch 3, 1 lp, shell in shell, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 4: Shell in shell, * ch 3, sc in ch lp, make 1 lp, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 4, shell in shell with   ch 5 in center, ch 4, shell in shell, repeat from * once, ch 3, 1 lp, ch 3, shell,  ch 3, turn.

Rnd 5: * Shell in shell, ch 5, sc in ch 3 lp, ch 5, shell in shell, ch 4, 10 tr in ch 5 lp, ch 4, repeat from * once, shell in shell, ch 5, sc in ch 3 lp, ch 5, shell in shell.    Cut thread.  Do not turn.

Rnd 6: Sk outside shell of pineapple, shell in next shell, * ch 3, tr in each of 10 tr with  ch 1 between each, ch 3,shell in shell, ch 3 (sk two ch-5 centers of pineapple below),  shell in shell.  Repeat from *, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 7: Shell in shell, * ch 3, 8 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell in shell, * ch 1, shell in ch 3 sp,  ch 1, shell in shell.  Repeat from * to *, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 8: Same as previous md with 7 lps across pineapple and ch 2 between center shells instead of ch 1.

Rnd 9: * Shell in shell, ch 3, 6 lps across pineapple, ch 31 shell in shell, ch 4,  shell with center of ch 5, ch 4,repeat from to *, ch 3, turn.

 Rnd 10:Shell in shell, ch 3, 5 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell, ch 4, * 11 tr in ch 5 lp, ch 4, repeat from * to *, ch 3 to turn.

Rnd 11 : * Shell in shell, ch 3, 4 lps across pineapple, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 3 *,  tr in each of 11 tr with ch 1 between each, ch 3, repeat from * to turn.

Rnd 12: * Shell in shell, ch 3, 3 lps, ch 3, shell in shell, ch 3, * sc in ch 1 sp, 9 lps across pineapple, ch 3. Repeat from * to *, turn.

Rnd 13: Same as previous rnd with 2 lps on each of the outside pineapples and 8 lps  on center pineapple.

Rnd 14: Same as previous rnd with 1 lp on each of the outside pineapples and 7 lps on center pineapple.

 Rnd 15: * Shell in shell, ch 5, sc in last lp of pineapple, ch 5, shell in shell, * ch 4, 6 lps across,  ch 4, repeat from * to *.  Cut thread.  Turn.

Rnd 16: Shell in shell, ch 4, 5 lps across pineapple, ch 4, shell in shell, ch 3, turn.

Complete pineapple in this way, making ch 4 before and after lps each time.

Finish next 3 pineapples out separately and make other long end.  Then complete last group of 3 pineapples.

Rnd 2: sl to center of shell, open shell (dc, ch 4 for a p, dc) here, (ch 4, SC under ch 3, ch 4,    open shell in next shell) 4 times, ch 5, SC in joining of last rnd, ch 5, 5 open shells down  next pineapple and ch 5 over joining as before, open shell, ch 4, sc under ch 3, ch 4, open shell,
ch 4, sc under ch 3, ch 5, * dc in dc of last rnd between joining, p, (ch 3, SC under ch 3,  ch 3, open shell in shell) 5 times, ch 3, SC under last ch 3, ch 3, sk one shell.

Repeat from * twice.  dc and p in first dc on long side, ch 5, SC under ch 3, ch 4,  open shell in shell, and repeat around same as other end.

Round Doily-Center-
Make first 16 rows same as for long doily and finish each pineapple out separately.

Edge-Rnd 1: Shell in ch 1 at tip ?f pineapple, (ch 3, shell in next turning ch) 3 times,   dc in top of ch 3 of first shell up next pineapple, (shell in turning ch, ch 3) 3 times.

 Repeat from beginning around.  Join with sl St to first shell.
Rnd 2: sl to center of shell, * open shell in shell, (ch 4, SC under ch 3, ch 4, open shell in shell) twice,   ch 4, SC under ch 3, ch 3, dc in dc between pineapples, p over dc, ch 3, SC under ch 3, (ch 4, open shell in shell, ch 4, SC under lp) 3 times, ch 4, repeat from around.
