Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No, 2 or Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 1.

Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Knitting Pins, 1  pair No. 2  (2 ¾ mm. size).

Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Double-Painted Sock Needles, 1 set No. 2 (2 ¾ mm. size).

GAUGE: 8 sts make 1 inch;  6 pattern rows (3 sc rows and 3 dc rows) make 1 inch.

Directions are given for Size 40.                            

Changes for Sizes 42, 44 and 46 are in parentheses.

BACK . . . Starting at lower edge, make a chain 27 inches long.

1st Row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until there are on Row 168 (176, 184, 192) sc. Ch 3, turn.

2nd Row (right side of work): Skip first sc, dc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

3rd Row: Sc in each dc across, sc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.

The last 2 rows (2nd and 3rd rows) constitute pattern. Work in Pattern for live 11 ½ (12, 12, 12 ½) inches ending with 2 nd Row.

To Shape Armholes:

1st and 2nd rows: Sl st across 6 (6, 7, 7) sts and work in pattern to within last 6 (6, 7, 7) sts. Turn. There are 12 (12, 14, 14) sts decreased at each end. 

Continue in pattern, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every Row--to dec 1 st, work off 2 sts as l st until there remain 128 (132, 136, 140) sts. 

Now work in pattern until piece measures 8 ½ (8 ½ ,8 ¾, 9) inches from first Row of armhole shaping, ending with 2 nd Row.

To Shape Shoulders:

1st and 2nd rows: Sl st across 9 (9, 9, 10) sts. Work in pattern across to within last 9 (9, 9, 10) sts.

3rd and nth rows: Sl st across 9 (10, 10, 10) sts. Work in pattern across to within last 9 (10, 10, 10) sts. Break off at end of 4 th Row.

BAND... With right side facing and knitting pins, pick up and knit along lower edge 168 (176, 184, 192) sts. Work in ribbing of k 2. p 2 for 3½ inches. Bind off.

FRONT . . . Work exactly as for Back until piece measures 5 (5, 5, 5 ¼ ) inches from first Row of armhole shaping, ending with 2nd Row. There are on Row 128 (132, 136,140) sts.

RIGHT FRONT . . . Work in pattern across first 44 (46, 48, 50) sts. Turn. Work in pattern over this set of sts only, decreasing 1 st at neck edge every Row until there remain 36 (38, 38, 40) sts. Work without decreasing until piece measures 8 ½ (8 ½, 8 ¾ , 9) inches from first Row of armhole shaping. Shape shoulders exactly as for Back. Break off.

LEFT FRONT: With wrong side of front facing, skip 40 sts on all sizes, attach yarn to next st and work to correspond to Right Front.

BAND . . . Work as for Back.

SLEEVES . . . Starting at bottom, ch 73 (77, 81, 85) and work in pattern as for Back until piece measures 2 inches in all for all sizes. Continuing in pattern, inc 1 st at both ends of every 3rd Row (all sizes)--to inc l st, make 2 sts in 1 st--until there are on Row 124 (128, 132, 136) sts. Work without increasing until piece measures 18 (18 ¼, 18 ½, 18 ½ ) inches.

To Shape Top of Sleeves:

1st and 2nd rows: Sl st across 6 (6, 7, 7) sts and work in pattern to within last 6 (6, 7, 7) sts. Continue to work in pattern, decreasing 1 st at both ends of each Row until 26 sts remain. Break off.

CUFF . . . With right side of work facing and knitting pins, pick up and knit along starting chain 72 (76, 80, 84) sts. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 3 inches. Bind off.

Sew shoulder and side seams. Sew sleeve seams and sew in sleeves.

NECKBAND . .. With right side facing and double-pointed needles, pick up and knit around neck opening 176 (184, 192, 200) sts. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 1 inch. Bind off.

Block to measurements.
