Lace Linen Table Cloth

MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Size 30: 13 skeins White; or MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Size  30: 11 balls White; or MERCROCHET MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Size 20: 22 balls White. Each Motif measures about 4 inches when blocked.

No. 14 Steel Crochet Hook.

Linen to fit top of table.

Work tightly for best results.

1 st MOTIF: Starting in center, ch 11, join with sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 23 dc in ring, join with sl st in top of ch-3.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, (ch 3, sk 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc) 7 times, ch 3, join to ch-3.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc, (ch 7, 2 dc in each of 3 dc in next group) 7 times, ch 4, join with 2 dc in top of ch-3.

Rnd 4: dc in next 5 dc, (3 sc across center of next ch-7 lp, dc in next 6 dc) repeated around, end with only 2 sc in ch-5, sl st in 1 st dc.

Rnd 5: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next sc, ch 8, sk 1 sc, dc in next sc; repeat from * around; join final ch-8 to top of ch-3.

Rnd 6: Sl st in next 5 dc, ch 5, 5 tr in same dc with last sl st, * ch 1, tr in next ch-8 lp, (ch 4, tr) 3 times in same lp, ch 1, 6 tr in next 6th (center) dc; repeat from Brand, join to top of ch-5.

Rnd 7: Ch 5, holding back the last lp of each tr on hook, make tr in next 5 tr, Y 0 and draw thru 6 lps on hook (Cluster made), * ch 5, tr between next 2 tr, ch 5, (tr, ch 4, tr) in next sp, ch 5, tr in next SP, ch 5, (tr in 6 tr of group between shells) made into a Cluster; repeat from * around; join to top of 1 st Cluster.

Rnd 8: Ch 1, * 5 sc in next sp, (3 sc in next sp, ch 4, sl st in last SC for a p, 3 sc in same sp) twice, ** 5 sc in each of next 3 sps, ch 9, turn, sk 9 sc, sl st in next sc, ch 1, turn, 11 sc in lp, 5 sc in next sp, turn, 2 tr in l st sc on add ch lp, (1 tr in next sc, 2 tr in next sc) twice, (2 tr, ch 8, 2 tr) in next (center) sc, (2 tr in next sc, 1 tr in next sc) twice, 2 tr in next sc, sk 4 sc on shell, Sl st in next sc, ch 1, turn, sc in l st 5 tr, ** a p, sc in remaining 5 tr, *** (5 sc, a ch-5 p, 5 sc) in next lp, sc in next 5 tr, a ch-4 p, sc in remaining 5 tr, sl st in end of sc-Row, (3 sc, a ch-4 p, 3 sc) in each of next 2 sps, 5 sc in next sp, sk Cluster and repeat from * around; join and fasten off.

2d MOTIF: Repeat to * * * in RND S. 5 sc in next lp, ch 2, sl st in one lp of center st of a corner p on l st Motif, ch 2, sl st back in last sc on 2d Motif, 5 sc in bal. of lp, sc in next 5 tr, * ch 2, sl st in next p on 1 st Motif, ch 2, sl st back in last sc on 2d Motif, * sc in next 5 tr, sl st in end of sc-Row, (3 sc in next sp, join a p as from to *, 3 sc in same sp) twice, 5 sc in each of next 2 sps, (3 sc in next sp, join a p as from * to *, 3 sc in same sp) twice, repeat from ** to ** in RND 8; join a p as from * to *, sc in next 5 tr, 5 sc in next lp, ch 2, sl st in one lp of center st of corner p on l st Motif, ch 2, sl st back in last sc on 2d Motif, 5 sc in bal. of lp, sc in next 5 tr, a p, sc in next 5 tr, sl st in end of sc-Row, (3 sc, p, 3 sc) in each of next 2 sp s, 5 sc in next sp. Complete RND beg. at * in RND 8. Join and fasten off.

Make further Motifs, joining adjacent sides as 2d Motif was joined to l st Motif (where 4 corners meet, join 3d and 4th corners to joining of l st 2 corners).

BORDER: The inner edge of Border should fit table top, allowing for stretch when crochet is blocked. As illustrated, join 45 Motifs 3 x 15 for one short end of cloth (including corners). Repeat for other end. Join 36 Motifs 3 x 12 and join between ends of first 2 strips for one long side of cloth. Repeat on other side. (162 Motifs total). CENTER PANEL: Join 15 Motifs 3 x 4 (or size desired.) HEADING ROWS: Attach to p at one corner of CENTER PANEL, ch 1, 3 sc in p, * ch 10, SC in next p, ch 8, sc in next p, ch 5, sc in next PI (ch 5, dc in center sc in next sp) twice, (ch 5, sc in next p) twice, ch 8, sc in next p, ch 10, sc between sp in next joining of Motifs; repeat from around, with 3 sc in p attach corner Join to l st sc. 

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 5 hdc in next sc,1 hdc in next sc, 10 hdc in next sp, hdc in sc, 8 hdc in next sp, hdc in sc, (5 hdc in next sp, hdc in next St) 5 times, 8 hdc in next sp, hdc in sc, 10 hdc in next sp; repeat from * to next corner. Make 1 hdc in 1 st sc at corner, 5 hdc in next sc; repeat from * around, join and fasten off.

Repeat these 2 HEADING ROWS around inner edge of BORDER making a 5-hdc Cluster-dc-crease in each corner angle.

Stretch and pin crochet right-side-down in true shape. Steam and press dry thru a doubled cloth. Cut linen to fit tabletop plus 1/1" all around. Baste inner edge of BORDER ¼ " over edge of linen and hem down edge of hdc-Row closely.

Working on back, turn linen edge back against hdc-Row and hem down. Baste PANEL in center of linen, hem down edge, cut out linen ¼ " inside stitching, turn ¼ " edge back against back of hdc-Row and hem down. Block finished cloth.
