Lacy Dress

Size 3 years convert to knit 

1 Steel Crochet hook, size 7

Materials 4 balls-2-400 yds. Mercerized Cotton or Pearl Cotton. (Sport weight cotton)

Gauge--l0 d c to 1 inch.

Starting at bottom, ch 483, work 1 d c in 4th ch from hook, 1 d c in each ch to end of Row, join with a sl st (do not twist), ch 3.

Row 2--Work 1 d c in each of the next 18 d c, *ch 3, skip 2 d c, sl st in next st, ch 3, sl st in same st (a pico made), ch 4, skip 2 d c, 1 d c in each of the next 19 d c, repeat from *around Row, ending Row with an open pattern, sl st in ch 3 at beg of Row.

Row 3--Ch 3, make a dec as follows: wrap Y O needle, insert needle in next d c, draw thru, draw thru next d c, draw thru 3 loops, draw thru 2 loops, 1 d c in each of the next 14 d c, make a dec. *Ch 3, sl st in center of ch 3 of Row below, ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch of next ch 4, ch 4, make a dec, d c in next 15 d c, make a dec, repeat from *ending Row with an open pattern, sl st in ch 3 at beg of Row.

Row 4-- Ch 3, work 5 d c in next 5 d c, ch 3, skip 2 d c, pico in next st, ch 4, skip 2 d c, work 6 d c in next 6 d c. *Ch 3, pico in center of ch 5, ch 4, 6 d c in next 6 d c, ch 3, skip 2 d c, pico in next st, ch 4, skip 2 d c, 6 d c in next 6 d c, repeat from * around Row, join.

Row 5--Ch 3, work 5 d c in next 5 d c, *ch 3, sl st in center of ch 3 of Row below, ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch of next ch 4, ch 4, 6 d c in next 6 d c, repeat from * around Row, join.

Row 6~Ch 3, 5 d c in next 5 d c, ch 2, s c in center of ch 5, of Row below, ch 2, work 6 d c in next 6 d c. Ch 3, pico in center of ch 5 of Row below, ch 4, *6 d c in next 6 d c, ch 2, s c in center of ch 5, ch 2, 6 d c in next 6 d c. Ch 3, pico in center of ch 5, ch 4, repeat from *around Row, join.

Row 7-Ch 3, work 16 d c in next 16 sts, *ch 3, sl st in center of ch 3, ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch of ch 4, ch 4, work 17 d c, repeat from *around Row, join with a sl st, ch 3.

Rows 8 to 18---Follow pattern decreasing 1 d c at beg and end of every d c group on the 9th, 15th, 21st, 27th, 33rd and 39th rows.

Work 4 more rows even, join with a sl st. On 44th Row, sl st over 3 d c, ch 3, work 2 d c in next 2 d c, follow pattern around Row, ending Row with 3 d c, ch 3, turn.

Row 45--Follow pattern and make 1 dec in center of d c group. Remainder of dress is made with 4 d c between open patterns.

Work back and forth following pattern until you have 50 rows from beg, or desired length to underarm. Work over 5 d c groups and 4 open patterns for back, for 12 rows, decreasing 1 d c at armhole edge at end of 2 rows. Work 2 d c on armhole edge and 2 open patterns, 2 d c groups, continue in pattern for 7 rows.

On 8th Row work over 1 d c group, 1 open pattern, 2 d c, 2 s c, fasten off for slanting shoulder.

Fasten thread at 5th d c group at underarm and work to correspond to other side of back. Skip 2 open patterns and 1 d c group for underarm and work over 9 d c groups and 8 open patterns for front for 10 rows.

Work shoulder same as for back for 9 rows, work ½ Row same as back.

Sew shoulder seams.

Sleeves—

Ch 62 (to measure 7 inches). Work 1 d c in 4th ch, work 1 d c in each ch to end of Row, (59 d c). Ch 3, turn, work 1 d c in each st, ch 3, turn.

Row 3--Work 1 d c in each of the next 7 d c, *ch 3, skip 2 d c, pico in next st, ch 4, skip 2 d c, 8 d c in next 8 sts, repeat from *across Row.

Work 4 more rows following open pattern same as for dress and inc 1 d c in each d c group on every Row.

Row 8--Inc 2 extra d c on end d c groups, thus increasing 3 sts.

Row 9--Ch 1, turn, sl st over 5 d c for underarm, ch 2, follow pattern across but do not inc in the first and last d c group, working only to within last 6 d c.

Rows 10, 11, 12 and 13 and 14 Ch2, turn, dec 1 st at beg of every Row and dec 1 st in last 2 d c, do not d c in last ch (thus decreasing 2 sts at end of Row), following pattern as before.

Row 15---Ch 3, sl st in center of ch 5, ch 3, work 7 d c, ch 3, skip 2 d c, pico in next st, ch 4, follow pattern across Row, do not inc for remainder of sleeve, end Row with ch 3, sl st in ch 5, ch 2, d c in last d c.

Row 16---Ch 3, d c in first d c, turn, follow pattern across Row, end Row with d c in last ch. 3.

Row 17--Ch 2, turn, make a dec, follow pattern across Row and (ch 2, s c, ch 2). Over 3 center patterns, end Row with a dec in last 2 d c.

Work 3 more rows making decreases in same d c group at beg and end as before.

Work 1 more Row, Ch 1, s c in next st, 2 h d c in next 2 sts. D c across Row to within last 5 d c, 2 h d c 2 s c, sl st in last st.

Break thread.

Insert sleeves into armholes.
