Houndstooth matching hat and scarf

Hat, size 22". Scarf, 6” x 44”.

Materials for hat; knitting worsted weight  (100% wool), 1 (4-oz) color A.

Persian Needlepoint and Crewel Wool, 2 (40-yd) skeins each  colors B and C.

1  (40-yd) skein D and E.

For Scarf; Knitting Worsted weight  1 (4-oz) ball color A.

Persian Needlepoint and Crewel Wool, 3 skeins  color C, 2 skeins E, 1 skein color each colors B and D.

Aluminum crochet  hook size F (or International size 4.00 mm)  or the size that  will give you the correct gauge.

G AUGE; 9 sc = 2"

 

Hat

Starting at top of crown with A, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring. 

1st  rnd; Work 6 sc in ring. Mark beg of rnd. but do not join turn. 

2nd rnd; Work 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc). 

3rd rnd; (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times (18 Sc). 

4th rnd; (Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times (24 sc). 

5th rnd; Sc in each sc around, increasing 6 sc as evenly spaced as possible (30 sc). 

6th through 16th rnd;  Repeat 5th rnd. 11 time. (96 sc). Break off A, attach D.

17th and 18th rnd; Sc in each sc around. Piece should measure 3 ¾" from center.

 Color Pattern,  To Change Color; When working last sc of a color, draw up lp in next sc, drop old color and draw lp of new color through both lps on  hook. Carry color not in use loosely across top of work and work over it. Attach C and work even in sc as follows;

1st rnd; (W ork 2 D, 2 C) 24 times. 

2nd rnd;  Repeat 1st rnd. 

3rd and 4th rnds; With C, sc in each sc around. 

5th rnd; (Work 2 8, 2 C) 24 times, 

6th rnd; Repast 5th rnd. Break off C. 

Work 2 rnds B, 2 E, 2 C. Piece should measure about 6” from beg. Work B, work 8 rnds  sc, increasing 3 sc on each rnd. (120 sts). Working even in sc, work 2 rnds C and 4 E.

Last rnd; With B, from left to right, work reverse sc in each sc around; join. Break off.

Reverse Single Crochet 

SCARF

Working lengthwise with A, ch 201 to measure 45”. 

1st Row; Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; ch 1, turn.

2nd Row; Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. Attach C. Work even in sc from now on as follows:

Color pattern:

3rd Row; (Work 2 A, 2 C) 50 times. 

4th Row; Repeat 3rd Row. Work 2 rows C. 

7th and 8th rows; Repast 3rd and 4th rows, Work 2 rows A, 1 C, 1 B, 4 E, 2 B, 2 C, 2 D and 2 A.

Finishing edge;

1st rnd; With A, sc around outer edge of scarf, working 3 sc at each corner. Join. 

2nd rnd; From left to right, work reverse sc in each cc around to form ropelike edging. Join. Break off.
