Gauge: 6 scs equal 1 inch, 6 rows equal 1 inch
Starting at center of crown, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc).
Rnd 3: * sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (sc increased), repeat from * around (18 sc).
Rnd 4: sc in each sc around increasing 6 sc evenly around, repeat rnd 4 until piece is 6 inches in diameter. Work without increasing for 1 ½ inches from last increased rnd (there should be a number of sc divisible by 3 on last rnd).
Work in rnds of popcorn sts as follows:
Rnd 1: * sc in each of next 2 sc, 4 sc in next sc, drop lp from hook, insert hook in first sc of the 4 sc group and draw dropped lp through (pc st made). Repeat from * around ending with a pc st. sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: sc in same place as sl st, * pc st in next sc, sc in next pc st, sc in next sc, repeat from * around, join.
Rnd 3: Pc st in same place as sl st, * sc in next pc st, sc in next sc, pc st in next sc, repeat from * around, join.
Rnd 4: sc in first pc st, * sc in next sc, pc st in next sc, sc in next pc st, repeat from * around, do not join.
Rnd 5: sc in each sc and pc st around.
Rnd 6: sc in each sc around.
Rnd 7: sc in each sc around, increasing 18 sc evenly around.
Mark last rnd.
Work without increasing until piece measures 3 ½ inches from marked rnd.
Fasten off. Turn under 1 ½ inches of edge and sew in place.
