Granny Square Poncho

Size: One size fits all.  

Materials: worsted weight yarn, 2 skeins each of Natural White, Brown, Black, 1 skein each of Natural Light, Medium and Dark Grey. Crochet hook size H.  

Gauge : 1 motif = 4 " 

Color Note: Half of motifs must end with a rnd of white or light grey; the other half with black, brown, dark grey, or medium grey. Use different colors for Rnds 1 and 2. When joining motifs, alternate to from a checkerboard effect.  

Motif: Make 80. Starting at center with first color, ch 4, sl st to form ring.  

Rnd 1: Ch 2 to count as first dc, work 11 dc in ring - 12 dc. Join with sl St to top of ch-2. Fasten off.  

Rnd 2:

Join next color in same place as last sl st, ch 2, *  in next dc work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc (corner), dc in next 2-dc, repeat from *, end 1 dc after 4th corner, join with sl st to ch-2. Fasten off.  

Rnd 3:

Join last color in ch-2 space at any corner, ch 2, in same space work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, * ch 2, sk next 2 dc, sc between next 2 dc, ch 2, in next ch-2 spaceof next corner work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, repeat from * around, end ch 2, sk 2 dc, so between next 2 dc, ch 2, join. Fasten off, leaving 10" strand for sewing.  

Finishing: Weave in ends of yarn on wrong side. Block motifs. Catching only 1 lp of each dc on wrong side, sew  motifs tog as shown on chart. with A at A and B at B, join from A to B.  

Border: Right side facing, with white, work 1 Row Sc around outer edge, working 3 Sc in center st at each point. Join and fasten off.  

Neckband: Right side facing, with white, work 1 Row sc around neck edge.  

Rnds 2 and 3: 5k 1 sc at each corner, sc in each sc around.
