Granny Rug

Easy: Achievable by anyone.Materials: Caron "Aunt Lydia's" Heavy Rug Yarn (60-yd skeins): 4 skeins each of No.405 Beidge, no 323 Copper, No 105 Med Pink, No 310 Coral and 3 skeins each of No 559 Gold, No 905 Natural, No 550 Sunset, No 320 Burnt Orange, No 560 Bronze Gold,

crochet hook, size J, or any size hook to obtain gauge below: tapestry needle.

Gauge: 3 hdc = 1" = 2 rows = 1" each center square = 8 ½ square. Be sure to check your gauge. 

Note 1: Rug is made up of 12 Center Squares which are sewn together afterward.

Note 2: Border is crocheted with different lengths of yarns, using the same colors as Center Squares.

Note 3.- To hdc: Yo, draw up a lp in next st, yo and through 3 lps on hook.

CENTER SQUARE (Make 12): Starting at center of Square with any color, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 2 (counts as1 hdc), 11 hdc in ring-12 hdc. Join with sl st to top of ch-2. Fasten off.

Rnd 2: Join another color between any 2 hdc, ch 2 (counts as1 hdc), 5 hdc in same place, * skip 3 hdc, 6 hdc between next2 hdc-corner made; rep from * 2 times more-A corners made. Fasten off.

Rnd 3. Join another color in corner between 2 groups of 3 hdc for corner-sp, ch 2, 5 hdc in same place, * 3 hdc in sp bet next 2 corners, 6 hdc in next corner-sp; rep from * around. Join. Fasten off.

Rnd 4. Join another color in corner-sp, ch 2, 5 hdc in same sp, * 3 hdc in each sp bet next 2 corners, 6 hdc in corner-sp; rep from * around. Join. Fasten off.

Rnds 5 to 8. Rep Rnd 4, working with a new color in each rnd, having1 more 3 hdc between corners than in previous rnd.

ASSEMBLY: Join 4 rows of 3 squares each to form a rectangle. With right side facing you, sew squares tog from center of a corner to center of next corner, matching sts and working through both lps of each square.

BORDER-Preparation and Method: From remaining yarn, cut different lengths of yarn, using same colors as Center Squares. Join colors randomly (middle of Row, every Row or every 2 or 3 rows), drawing new color through last 2 lps of previous st. Work over ends.

Row 1: With right side facing you, join any color at upper-right edge of rectangle, ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in each st along one edge of rectangle. Turn.

Row 2.- Ch 2, hdc in first hdc, hdc in each hdc across. Rep Row 2, 14 times more, using colors randomly. Work same border on other 3 edges of rectangle.

Corner Squares: Make 4 each of Copper, Med. Pink, Coral and Beige.

Work Rnds 1 to 4 as for the Center Square without changing any of the colors.ASSEMBLY: Sew 4 different color squares together to form a large square, working through back lps only of each square. Sew large square to a corner of Rug. Rep for other 3 corners.
