Toddlers pullover hooded sweater
Instructions are for size 7. Changes for sizes 4, 6 and 8 are in ( ).
Materials: worsted weight yarn (2 oz skeins) 5 (6-6-8) Brick red (A), 1(1-2-2) skeins each Tobacco Gold (B), yellow (C), Orange (D).
Size I aluminum crochet hook, or size for gauge; size D aluminum crochet hook; tapestry needle; Cardboard for pom poms.
Gauge; 3 sts = 1", 3 rows = 2".
Finished chest measurements: 26 (28-30-32)".
Back; Use yarn double throughout, With A and larger hook, ch 46 (48-52-54) loosely. Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch. Work in dc as follows; 1 Row D, 1 E, 1 B, 1 C.
With A, work even until piece measures 7 (8-9-11)". * Dec 1 st each side of next Row; work 3 rows even. Rep from * once. Work 5 rows even.
Shape Dropped Shoulder
Row 1; Dc with C.
Row 2: With B, ch 2, dc in sp bet first 2 dc, * skip sp bet next dc, 2 dc in sp bet next 2 dc - shell made. Rep from * across, end 2 dc in sp bet last 2 dc.
Row 3: With E, ch 2, dc bet first 2 shells; 2 dc bet next 2 shells. Rep from * across.
Row 4: With D, rep Row 3; fasten off.
Front; Same as Back.
Sleeve: Sew ends of last 4 rows or Front and Back tog for shoulder seams. Sew side seams, leaving 4 ½ (5 ½-5 ½ 6)" open at top for armhole. Attach A at underarm, ch 2; work 27 (31-31-35) more dc around armhole; join to top of ch 2.
Work even in dc as follows; 1 Row E, 1 B, 1 C, 5 (6-7-8) A, 1 C, 1 E and 1 D. Fasten off.
Hood: With A, ch 61 loosely; work even in dc as follows; 1 Row A, 1 E, 1 A, 1 D, B A, 1 C; fasten off.
FLOWER; With single strand of A and smaller hook, ch 89.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3 dc in same ch; * sc in next ch, 3 dc in same ch, Rep from * 8 times with A, 13 times with C, 18 times with F, 21 times with D and 26 times with B. Fasten off. Beg'g at start at ch, roll up ch to form a disk; secure with a few sts. Attach C in any st of starting ch around outer edge of back of disk, * sc in same st, 4 dc in next st, sc in next ch; rep from * around, end, join in first sc - 13 petals. Fasten off. Attach E bet 2 center dc at any petal on prev rnd. Ch 2, 4 dc in same sp; * 5 dc in sp bet center dc of next petal; rep from * around; Join to first Sc; fasten off.
Leaves (make 2); With single strand of C and smaller hook, ch 12. sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in each of next 7 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in fast ch; fasten off.
Sew flower to front. With single strand of D and smaller hook, make a ch to fit from C Row at lower edge of front to flower. Sew ch in place for stem; sew leaves in place.
Finishing Neck Casing; Attach C at neck edge, ch 2, * ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in top of next st. Rep from * around, ch 1, join to fop of ch 2, fasten off.
Lower Edging; Attach double strand of D at side seam; with larger hook, sc around, having a multiple of 4 sts; join.
Row 2; Sc in join. * sk 1 st.,2 dc in next st, sk 1 st, sc in next st; rep from * around, sk 1 st, 2 dc in next st, sk next st, join in first sc.
Sleeve Edging; Work as for lower edging.
Hood; Fold hood in half crosswise, sew halves of last Row tog for back edge. Matching back seam of hood to center back of sweater, sew hood to neck edge. Work across front edge of hood as for Lower Edging.
Ties; Cut a 5 yd. length of B. fold in half. Attach one end to a stationary object; twist other end until cord begins to ''kink''. Grasp center of cord, bring ends together. Release center. Weave cord through neck casing.
Pompom (make 1 D, 1 E): Cut two 2" cardboard disks; cut a ¼ " hole in center of each. Holding disks together, cover with yarn using tapestry needle. Slip scissors between disks and cut around edge. Wind and tie thread around center, leaving ends for fastening. Attach a pompon to end of each tie.
