Crocheted Shawls

Convert this pattern to knit

FILET MESH
A flower design decorates this filet mesh shawl crocheted of 9 balls of  Sport yarn  in 2 ounce balls (240 yards per ball).  You will also need a size E crochet hook to make this triangular shawl, measuring 44 inches at the center.

Gauge: 5 sts equal 1 inch 5 rows equal 2 inches
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
Note: Each square on graph counts as 1 dc and 1 ch.

Beginning at top edge, ch 393 loosely to measure approximately 79 inches.
Row 1: (Right Side) Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across(391 de counting turning ch), turn.

Row 2: Sl st across first 2 dc, ch 4 (counts as first dc), dc each dc to last 2 sts, do not work over last 2 sts, turn.

Row 3: Sl St across first 2 dc, ch 4, dc in next 4 dc, * dc in next 2 dc, (ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc - 1 mesh made) 9 times, dc in next 2 dc, (ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc) 5 times, repeat from * 10 times, dc in next 2 dc, (ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc) 9  times, dc in next 7 dc, do not work remaining 2 dc, turn.

Continue for pattern working as Row 3, having 5 dc instead of 7 dc at the beginning and end of each Row, working sl st across first 2 dc of each Row and leaving last 2 dc un-worked until 3 dc remain. Fasten off.

Edging: 
Row 1: With right side facing join yarn under ch at beginning of

Row 1. Working along slanted edge. * ch 5, sc in top of dc at end of next Row, repeat from * to last Row (point of triangle).  Ch 5, in center dc of 3 dc work sc, repeat from * along other edge working to correspond to first edge, sc in top of last dc of Row 1, turn.

Row 2: *Ch 5, sc in center of next lp, repeat from * end ch 5, sc in 3rd ch of same lp, turn.

Row 3: *Ch 5, sc in center of next lp, repeat from *  to point, in lp at point work sc, ch 5, sc.  Work 2nd to correspond to first edge, end ch 5, sc in 3rd ch of same  lp, turn.

Row 4: Repeat Row 2.

Row 5: Repeat Row 3.

Row 6: Repeat Row 2.

Row 7: Ch 1, 2 sc in same lp, *ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook (picot), sc in same lp, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in same lp, 2 sc in next lp, repeat from * in each lp around shawl. 

Continue working across top edge, (work 2 sc in next lp, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook) 4 times, **sc in of next 3 dc, work picot, repeat from ** across top edge, working across end lps to correspond.  Join, fasten off.

 STAR STITCH   

Soft, warm and dressy, too!  What more could anyone want from this star stitch stole?  The ends have cluster stitches and a Row of clusters is worked around the entire outside edge.  Seven inch fringe completes the look.  Made with 12 balls of worsted weight yarn, the stole without fringe measures 20 x 70.inches. Monique is a light, fluffy, worsted weight yarn with 110 yards in each 1 ounce hall.  If substituting, be sure to get enough yardage.  You will also need size H and J crochet hooks or size required for gauge.

Gauge:
(H hook): 4 sc equal 1 inch
2clusters equal 1 inch
(J hook): 2 star sts equal 1 inch
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

Beginning at one short edge with smaller hook, ch 74 to measure approximately 22 inches for lower edge.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 73 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each sc, ch 3, turn.

Row 3: Sk first sc, *(yo hook, draw up lp in next sc) 4 times in same St, yo hook and through all lps on hook, ch 1 (cluster completed), sk 1 sc, repeat from *,  end cluster in next sc, dc in last sc, ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Sc in first dc, *sc in top of cluster, sc in side of cluster, repeat from t end sc in top of turning ch - 73 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Row 5: Sc in each sc across.  Change to larger hook and star stitch.

Row 6: Ch 3, draw up lp in 2nd and 3rd ch from hook, draw up lp in first, 2nd and 3rd sc, yo and draw yarn through all 6 lps on hook for star stitch, *ch 1 for eye of star stitch, draw up lp in eye of star stitch, draw up lp in back of last lp of star St and in same sc as last lp of star St, draw up lp in each of next 2 sc, yo and draw through all 6 lps, repeat from *,  end ch 1 to complete star St, hdc in same sc as last lp of star st, ch 1, turn.

Row 7: Sc in hdc, *sc, ch 1 in eye of next star St, repeat from * to last star st, end sc in eye of star St, sc under top 2 lps of star st, ch 3, turn.

Row 8: Draw up lp in 2nd and 3rd ch from hook, in first and 2nd sc and in next ch-1 sp, complete star St, *work star St by drawing up lp in eye of last star st, in back of last lp of same star St, in same ch-1 sp, in next sc and in next ch-1 sp, yo and through all 6 lps, ch 1, repeat from  *,  hdc in same sc as last lp of star st.  36 star sts.

Repeat Rows 7 and 8 for star St pattern until piece measures 66 inches from beginning (or 4 inches less than desired length of stole), end with pattern Row 7, ch 1, turn.  Change to smaller hook.

Next Row: Sc in each sc and ch-1 sp across - 73 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Next Row: Sc in each sc, ch 3, turn.

Next 3 Rows: Repeat Rows 3, 4 and 5 of lower edge.  Do not fasten off.  Ch 1, sc in same St as last sc (for corner), sc along side edge of stole (spacing sts to keep edge flat) to next corner, ch 1, turn.  Sc in each sc, fasten off. 

Work 2 rows sc along other edge in same way. 

Rejoin yarn in any sc of corner, work clusters (as in Row 3) around entire outside edge of stole, working 3 clusters in each corner. 

Work 2 rnds sc, fasten off.

Fringe: Cut four 14 inch strands for each fringe and knot in every 2nd sc along short edges of stole.
