Edge in crochet 

 

Here is an edge in crochet that can be used on a round doily or a straight towel edge. It is quick and easy to make and very pretty made in all one color or by combining two harmonizing colors. Use any desired weight of thread and a size crochet hook to correspond. The model was made of # 30 weight mercerized crochet thread and a size 8 steel crochet hook when completed it measures about 1 ½ inches wide.

Abbreviations:Ch (chain);st (stitch);sc (single crochet);rnd (round);lp (loop);

dtr (double treble) = thread over three times, work off 2 lps at a time; to make a cluster-retain last lp of each dtr on hook, thread over, and pull through all lps at once. First work a Row of sc around piece.

Rnd 1: In white, * ch 5, sk 3 sc on edge, sc in next, repeat from * around piece and join.

Rnd 2:S1 st to center of ch, * ch 5, sc over ch of previous rnd, repeat' from * around.

Rnd 3:S1 st to center of ch, * ch 5, sc over ch lp, ch 10, sc over ch lp, repeat from * around, join having an even number of small 1ps and even number of large lps.

Rnd 4: S1 st to large lp, ch 5, 2 dtr cluster in lp, ch 5, make 6 more dtr clusters in same lp, each separated by ch 5, * sk small lp, sc in next large lp, sk small lp, work 7 dtr clusters with a ch 5 between in next large lp, repeat from * around. Join and fasten off.

Rnd 5: Join a contrasting thread over a large ch lp between cluster groups, ch 5 for a dtr, make 2 more dtr to complete a 3 dtr cluster, make 2 more 3 dtr clusters with a ch 5 between, * sk-3 clusters of group below, now work 3 clusters groups with a ch 5 between each in each of next 2 ch lps, ch 5 make 3 cluster group over next large ch lp between cluster groups, repeat from * around, join and fasten off.

Rnd 6: Join white over first ch of 3 dtr cluster group, * ch 3, sc over next ch, ch 5, make a 3 dc cluster over next ch, ch 5, make a 3 dc cluster over each of the 6 remaining chs, each separated by a ch 5 - 7 dc clusters in all, sc over first ch of 3 cluster group, repeat from * around, join and fasten off.
