Ear of Corn Pot Holder
Convert this to knit INTERMEDIATE
Knit an ear of corn pot holder or a pair of them, using two colors of 4 ply knitting worsted and number 5 knitting needles. A golden yellow with white for one and yellow and orange for the companion make a good color combination. Or, try blue, purple and white. Each may be topped with leaves and hangers of green. One ear requires about 16 yards of main color (MC), 22 yards of contrasting color (CC), 12 yards of green and a yarn needle. You will also need a size F crochet hook for husk.
Corn: With MC, cast on 18 sts.
Row 1: Inc in each st across - 36 sts.
Rows 2 and 3: K.
Row 4: *Pick up CC, k 4 carrying alternate yarn across back of work, pick up MC, k 4 carrying alternate yarn, repeat from * across, ending k 4 with MC.
Repeat Row 4 until piece measures 4 ½ inches.
Next Row: With MC, k.
Next Row: Dec by k 2 tog across - 18 sts.
Next Row: Dec by k 2 tog across -9 sts.
Cut a 6 inch length of yarn and run it through each st remaining on needle using yarn needle.
Draw tight and fasten off. Sew edges together about 1 inch from top and same distance from bottom.
Husk: With green and hook, ch 20.
(Loop) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, join with 2 sl sts to form ring.
Rnd 2: Ch 8, sl st in first ch to form ring.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, turn, work 19 dc into ring f ch-8, join with sl st in top of ch-3.
Row 1: *Ch 6, turn and with wrong side facing sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sc in dc at base of ch, turn - 6 sc.
Row 2: Work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 3 dc along side, work 7 more dc in last st. On remaining side, work 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, sl st in top of dc at base of leaf. sl st in next 4 dc of center ring.
Repeat from * around ring - (5 leaves made).
Sew to top of ear of corn.
