Double Layer Crocheted Pot holder

Convert this to knit INTERMEDIATE

Combine beauty and utility in a double layer crocheted potholder.  The white bed (1 ball bedspread cotton) sets off the bright, symmetrical flower at its center (1 small ball each green, pink and yellow).  A size 7 steel crochet hook gives potholder the proper density and a diameter of 6 ½ inches.

BACK: With white, ch 5, join with sl St to form ring, ch 3.
Rnd 1:  Work 15 dc in ring, ch 3. Note: Ch 3 at beginning of each rnd counts as one dc.

Rnd 2:  dc in same sp, 2 dc (inc) in each dc around - 30 sts.  Join, ch 3.

Rnd 3:  Inc in next dc, *dc in next dc, inc in next dc, repeat from * around, end inc - 45 sts.  Join, ch 3.

Rnd 4: dc in next dc, *inc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, repeat from * around, end inc - 60 sts.   Join, ch 3.

Rnd 5: dc in next 2 dc, *inc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, repeat from * around end inc - 75 sts.    Join, ch 3.

Rnd 6: dc in next 3 dc, *inc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc, repeat from * around end inc - 90 sts.   Join, ch 3.

Rnd 7: dc in next 4 dc, *inc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, repeat from * around end inc - 105 sts.      Join, ch 3.

Rnd 8: dc in next 5 dc, *inc in next, dc, dc in next 6 dc, repeat from * around end inc - 120 sts.  Join, ch 3.
         
Rnd 9: dc in next 6 dc, *inc in next dc, dc in next 7 dc, repeat from * around end inc - 135 sts.  JJoin, ch 3.
           
Rnd 10: dc in next 7 dc, *inc in next dc, dc in next 8 dc, repeat from * around end inc - 150 sts.
Join, fasten off.

FLOWER MOTIF: With yellow, ch 5 join with sl St to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, dc in ring, *(ch 5, yo, insert hook in first st of ch, pull through leaving 2 lps on hook)  twice; yo and work all lps off hook, sl st in first st of ch, 2 dc in ring, repeat from * 6 times; (ch 5, yo, insert hook in first st of ch, Pull yarn through leaving 2 lps on hook) twice, yo and work all lps off hook, sl st in first st of chain.  Join, fasten off.

Rnd 2: With pink, join in sp between 2 dc, ch 4, 4 tr, *ch 3, sk 2 dc, 5 tr in sp,
repeat from * around.  Join.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same sp, *dc in next 3 tr, 2 dc in next tr, ch 3, 2 dc in next tr, repeat from * around, end dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next tr, ch 3. Join.

Rnd 4: *Ch 4, yo twice, insert hook in same sp, pull through and work off 2 lps twice, (yo twice, insert hook in next dc, pull through and work off 2 lps twice) 4 times, yo and work off all lps, ch 4, sl st in last dc, ch 1, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 1, sl st in next dc repeat from * around.  Join, fasten off.

Rnd 5: With green, join at top of any petal, ch 3, *work 5 tr in sp, ch 3, sl st at top of next petal, ch 3, repeat from * around. Join, fasten off.

Rnd 6: With white, join in ch-3 sp, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp, 5 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2; *(5 dc in next ch-3 sp) twice, ch 2, repeat from * around.  Join.

Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in same sp , dc in next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, repeat from * around.  Join.

Rnd 8: Ch 3, dc in same sp, dc in next 10 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 10 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, repeat from * around.  Join.

Rnd 9: Ch 3, dc in same sp, dc in next 5 dc, ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, repeat from * around.  Join.

Rnd 10: Ch 3, work 1 dc in each dc and ch 2 over each ch 2. Join, fasten off.

Finishing:
Place wrong sides of front and back together.

Rnd 1: With back facing, sc in each dc of both sections or in ch-2 sp for each dc of back, turn.

Rnd 2: (Ch 1, sc, 5 dc) in same sc, sk 3 sc, sc *5 dc in next sc, sk 3 sc, sc, repeat from * around.  Ch 15, join in next sc, work 25 sc over ch.  Join, fasten off.
