EASY
Collectors of 18 inch dolls will warmly receive this crocheted dress with matching handbag. Fun food and fruit appliqués adorn both dress and bag.

You will need 6 ounces ecru worsted weight yarn: 1 ball each red, green, gold, purple, orange pink, tan, brown and black of size 5 Pearl Cotton crochet hooks sizes G, I and a steel size 2 hook or sizes required for gauge; three ½ inch diameter buttons: matching thread for sewing on appliqués.

  To save time check gauge.

Gauge;
With size G hook in pattern stitch 4 sts equal 1 inch,  2 rows equal 1 inch

With size I hook in pattern stitch 11 sts equal 3 inches, 2 rows equal 1 inch

With size 2 steel hook 15 sc equal 2 inches, 8 rows equal 1 inch

DRESS:

Starting at bottom edge with larger hook, ch 75 loosely.  Work in pattern St  as follows:

Row 1: (foundation Row  Right Side) Dc in 4th ch from hook: *ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in each of next 3 ch' repeat from *to last 3 ch, ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in each of last 2 ch.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 2: dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; *ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; repeat from * across, dc in top of ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 3: dc in next dc; *ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; repeat from * to last 2 dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc and in top of ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern St, and continue in pattern St until total of 10 rows have been completed.  Change to smaller hook and work 3 more rows in pattern St, ending with Row 3 or a total of 13 rows.

Row 14: (Begin Right Back Shaping) dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; *ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; repeat from * once more, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc and next ch.  Ch 3, turn, leaving remaining sts un-worked.

Row 15: dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; *ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; repeat from * once more, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc and in top of ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

Repeat Row 15 four times.  At end of last Row, ch 1 (in place of ch 3), turn.

Row 20: (Shoulder Shaping) Sl st across to second 3-dc group, then sl st in next dc; ch 3, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc and in top of ch-3.  Fasten off.

Front Shaping: With wrong side facing, sk next two 3-dc groups from right back shaping just completed, then with smaller hook, join with sl st in next ch.

Row 1; Ch 3, dc in next dc; *ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; repeat from * 5 more times, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc and next ch.  Ch 3, turn, leaving remaining sts un-worked.

Row 2: dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; *ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; repeat from * 5 more times, dc in top of ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

Row 3: dc in next dc; *ch 1, sk I dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; repeat from * 5 more times, ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc and in top of ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 once more.

Row 6: (Begin Left Shoulder Shaping) dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc and next ch; dec over first and third dc of next 3-dc group as follows:
Work dc in next dc until 2 lps remain on hook, keeping both lps on hook, sk next dc, then work dc in next dc until 3 lps remain on hook, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook (dec made).  Ch 3, turn, leaving remaining sts unworked.

Row 7: Sk next dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc and in top of ch-3.  Fasten off, leaving 12 inch sewing length.

Right Front Shoulder Shaping:
With right side facing, sk next two 3-dc groups from left shoulder shaping just completed, then with smaller hook, join with sl st in next dc.

Row 1: Ch 3, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; ch 1, sk I dc, dc in each of next dc, ch, dc and in top of ch-3.  C h 3, turn.

Row 2: dc in next dc; ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; sk 1 dc, dc in next dc.  Leave ch-3 un-worked.  Fasten off, leaving 12 inch sewing length.

Left Back Shaping: With wrong side facing, sk next two 3-dc groups from front shaping, then with smaller hook join with sl st in next ch, ch 3.

Row 1: dc in next dc; *ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; repeat from * twice, dc in top of ch-3.  Ch 3, turn.

Repeat Row 1 five more times.

Row 7: (Shoulder Shaping) dc in next dc; ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in each of next dc, ch and dc; sk 1 dc, dc in next dc.  Leave remaining sts un-worked.  Fasten off.

Sleeves: (Make 2) Starting at top edge with smaller hook, ch 31 loosely.

Work 8 rows in pattern St same as for beginning of dress.  At end of last Row, ch 1 (in place of ch 3), turn.
Row 9: (Picot Edging) Working in each dc and ch across, sc in each of first 2 dc; *ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (for picot), sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat front * to last 2 dc, work picot, sc in each of last 2 dc. leave ch-3 un-worked.  Fasten off.

Finishing: Sew shoulder seams.  Sew back seam along first 8 rows only, leaving remainder free for back opening.  Sew sleeve seams from bottom edge to last Row at top (leave last Row free for underarm), then sew in sleeves, matching foundation chain edge with straight edge of armhole and Row ends with straight edge of underarm.

Back and Neck Edging: With right side facing and with smaller hook, join with sl st at back seam at base of opening.  Working 3 sc at each back neck corner; work one rnd in sc evenly spaced upside of back opening, around neck edge and down other side of back opening.  Continue in sc up left side of back opening, working 3 buttonholes evenly spaced by working (ch 2, sk 2 sc) for each buttonhole.  sl st in next St at neck edge and fasten off. 

Sew on buttons.

Bottom Picot Edging: With right side facing and larger hook, join with sl st at back seam on bottom edge.  sc in next st; *ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (for picot), sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * around, ending last repeat with 2 sc (in place of 3 sc), join with sl st in beginning sc.  Fasten off, weave in ends.

HANDBAG:
With smaller hook, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st in beginning sc. Do not turn (all rnds are worked on right side).

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, work 2 dc in each remaining St around, join with sl st in top of beginning ch-3 - 14 dc, counting beginning ch-3 as one dc.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same St as joining; *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * to last dc, 2 dc in last dc, join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3 - 22 dc.

Rnd 4: Repeat Rnd 2 - 44 dc.

Rnd 5: Working in back lp of each st, ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dc; *ch 1, sk I dc, dc in each of next 3 dc; repeat from * to last dc, ch 1, sk last dc, join as before.

Rnd 6: Working in both lps of sts, ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dc: *ch 1, sk next Sp, dc in each of next 3 dc; repeat from * to last Sp, ch 1, sk last Sp, join.

Repeat Rnd 6 eight more times.
Rnd 15: (Picot Edging) working in each dc and ch around. ch 1, 2 sc in same a St as joining; *ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (for picot), sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * to last St, work picot, sc in last St, join with sl st in beginning sc.  Fasten off, weave in ends.

Drawstrings: Crocheting rather tightly, use smaller hook and make 2 chains each 14 inches long.  "leave one chain through sp (between sts) of 3rd dc-rnd down from top, then sew ends of chain together.  Starting at opposite end, weave other chain through same sp, sew ends together in same manner.  Pull to close bag.

APPLIQUÉS:
Note: For all appliqués, use size 2 steel hook and 2 strands of Pearl Cotton . When appliqués are finished, use matching sewing thread and sew onto dress and handbag as desired or as shown in photo.
Ice Cream Cone: With gold, ch 2.
Row 1: (Wrong Side) Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Work 2 sc in each sc - 4 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across.  Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Row 3, thirteen more times -18 sc.  At end of last Row, change to pink in last sc by drawing pink through last 2 lps of St. Fasten off gold, continue with pink only.  Ch 1, turn.

Rows 17 and 18: Work 2 rows even (work one sc in each St across rows, and ch 1, turn at end of rows).

Row 19: Dec over first 2 sc (draw up loop in each of first 2 sc, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook - dec made), sc in each sc across to last 2 sc, dec.  Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Row 19 four more times - 8 sc.  Fasten off, weave in ends.

Hamburger: With brown, ch 17.

Foundation Rnd: (Right Side) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 16 sc; ch 1, continue along opposite side of starting ch and work sc in each of 16 sts, join with sl St in beginning sc.  Fasten off brown, join tan.  Ch 1, do not turn; work first half of bun back and forth in rows as follows:
Row 1: Working in back lp only, work 2 sc in same St as joining, sc in each of next 14 sc, 2 sc in next sc - 18 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Working in both lps of sts, sc in each of first 2 sc, hdc in each of next 2 sc, dc in each sc across to last 5 sc, hdc in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, sl st in last sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Continuing to work in both lps, sl st in 2nd St, sc in each St to last 2 sts, sl st in last 2 sts.  Fasten off.  Work other half of bun in same manner as first half.

Watermelon: With red, ch 11.
Row 1: (Right Side) Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch to last ch, 2 sc in last ch - 12 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Row 2 four more times - 22 sc.

Row 7: sc across.  Fasten off, join green.  Ch 1, do not turn; work 1 Row in sc evenly spaced around curved edge.  Fasten off, then with black, embroider straight sts at random for seeds.

Leaves: (Make 1 Set Each For Apple, Orange and Grapes) With green, ch 6 (for first leaf). *sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in each of next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch.* Ch 6 (for 2nd leaf), then repeat from * to * as for first leaf, join with sl st in beginning ch of first leaf.  Fasten off, weave in ends.

Apple: With red, ch 6.
Row 1: (Wrong Side) sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 5 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Row 2 three more times - 13 sc.

Rows 6 through 11: Work 6 rows even.

Row 12: Dec over first 2 sc, sc in each of next 4 sc.  sl st in next sc, sc in each of next 4 sc, dec over last 2 sc - 11 sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 13: Dec over first 2 sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, sl st in next St, sc in each of next 3 sc, dec over last 2 sc - 9 sts.  Ch 1, turn.

Edging Rnd: Work in sc evenly spaced all around outer edge of apple, join with sl st in beginning sc.  Fasten off, weave in ends.

Orange: With orange, ch 8.
Row 1: (Wrong Side) Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across to last ch, 2 sc in last ch - 9 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Row 2 twice more - 15 sc.

Rows 5 through 8: Work 4 rows even.

Row 9: Dec over first 2 sc, sc in each sc to last 2 sc, dec over last 2 sc.  Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Row 9 three more times - 7 sc. At end of last Row, do not turn.

Edging Rnd: Work in sc evenly spaced all around outer edge of orange, join with sl st in beginning sc. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Grapes: (Make 8) With purple, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st in beginning sc.  Do not turn.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in same St as joining and in each remaining sc around, join with sl st in beginning sc.  Fasten off.

Assembling: Having right side of each grape facing, sew grapes together in "V" pattern
