Revitalize an item in your wardrobe or add zest to your sewing by substituting inserts of crochet work for fabric. Set takes about 4 ounces 2-ply medium weight sport yarn. Use plastic crochet hook size H and 4 small buttons.
sc (single crochet)
dc (double crochet)
Left Front: Ch 29, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), turn.
Row 1: dc in second st from hook and in each St across-28 dc, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: sc in each dc across, ch 3, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows (pattern) until entire piece measures 13 ½ inches, end with Row 2.
Neck Shaping: Work to last 11 sts, ch 3, turn. Work Row 1 across Row, ch 1, turn. Continuing in established pattern, work to last 2 sts, work 2 sts tog - a dec.
Next Row: Work 2 sts together, work across Row. Work 1 Row even. The 15 remaining sts form shoulder.
Right Front: Work same as left front but reverse placement of shaping at neck edge.
Back: Ch 59. Work same as lower edge of front for 6 inches, fasten off. Sk 15 sts, join yarn, work sc across next 28 sts for neck, fasten off.
Finishing: Sew shoulder seams.
Work 1 Row sc along front edges, across bottom of fronts and back and along side edges.
Collar: Starting ¾ inch from outer front edge, work 54 sc around neck edge, ending ¾inch from other outer edge. Work pattern st on these sts, inc 1 st each end of collar every inch. Work even until collar measures 3 inches, fasten off. Work 1 Row sc around edge of collar. Steam press. Sew 4 buttons in place ¾ inch in from center front edge on a dc Row. Dc openings on right front serve as buttonholes.
Cuffs-(Make 2): Ch 6. Work 1 Row sc. Work back and forth in sc (working in back lp only) until piece measures 6 or desired inches -this is turn under of cuff. Ch 1, work 26 sc across 6-inch edge of piece for beginning of cuff. Work in pattern st, inc 1 st each end once. Work until cuff measures 3 or desired inches, fasten off. Sc around cuff. Sew seam and fold cuff above turn under band. Steam press.
