Owl Can Toy

   Convert this to knit

Decorate Your Child's Room with an Elephant or Owl.  Who-o-o-o could resist an owl like this?  To crochet this owl toy you will need I skein Skipper Blue and scraps of Paddy Green, Dark Gold and Maize Coats & Clark Red Heart@' Bulky Craft and Rug yarn, a size I crochet hook, two ¾ inch dark blue buttons and a can about 4 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall.

OWL BODY: Beginning at top with Skipper Blue, ch 6, join with Sl St to form ring, ch 1.
Rnd 1: Work 10 SC in ring, join with Sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each SC around, join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 3: *SC in each of next 3 SC, 2 SC in next SC.  Repeat from * around, join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 4: *SC in each of next 4 SC, 2 SC in next SC.  Repeat from * around, join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 5: *SC in each of next 5 SC, 2 SC in next SC.  Repeat from * around, join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 6: *SC in each of next 6 SC, 2 SC in next SC.  Repeat from * around, join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnds 7 through 25: SC in each SC around.  Join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 26: *Draw up lp in each of next 2 SC, yo and draw yarn through 3 lps on hook (dec made), SC in next SC.  Repeat from * around, join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 27: *SC in next SC, ch 2, sk 3 sc,

Repeat from * around, end SC, join with SL St.

Finishing: Place can in cover.  Cut inch length of yarn, thread through ch sp of Rnd 27. 

Draw yarn and tighten tie firmly.


Eyes: (Make 2) With Maize ch 6, joie with SL St to form ring, ch 1.

Rnd 1: Work 10 SC in ring, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each SC around, join with SL St, fasten off.
Rnd 3: Join Paddy Green, ch 1, *SC in each of next 2 SC, 2 SC in next SC Repeat from * around, join with SL St ch 1.
Rnd 4: SC in each of next 4 SC, 2 SC in next SC.  Repeat from * around, join with SL St, turn.  Do not fasten off.

Ears: (Make 2) SC in next SC, hdc it next SC, ch 2, hdc in next SC, SC in next SC, SL St in next SC, turn.

Next Row: SC in each St to ch-sp, 3 st in ch-sp, SC in each of next 2 sts, SL St in next St.

Bill: With Dark Gold, ch 6.
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: SC in each se, 3 SC in last SC, sc evenly across opposite side of starting ch. Fasten off.

With eyes touching at center, sew in place at top of can (see photo).  Sew bill in place at center of eyes.  Sew buttons at center of eyes.

Elephant Can Toy

Elephants never forget and neither will your children when you make them an elephant toy.  Crocheted of Coats & Clark Red Heart Bulky Craft and Rug yarn, the toy is about 6 inches tall.  To make an elephant requires 2 skeins yarn in desired color, a size I crochet hook, two 1 inch diameter white felt circles and a can about 4 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall.

ELEPHANT BODY: Beginning at top, ch 6, join with sl St to form ring, ch 1.

Rnd 1: Work 10 se in ring, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 2: Work 2 se in each SC around, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 3: *SC in each of next 3 se, 2 SC in next se.  Repeat from * around, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 4: *SC in each of next 4 SC, 2 SC in next se.  Repeat from * around, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 5: *SC in each of next 5 se, 2 SC in next se.  Repeat from * around, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 6: *SC in each of next 6 se, 2 SC in next se.  Repeat from * around, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnds 7 through 25: SC in each se around, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 26: *Draw up lp in each of next 2 se, yo and draw yarn through 3 lps on
hook (dec made), SC in next SC.  Repeat from around, join with sl St, ch 1.

Rnd 27: *Sc in next sc, ch 2, sk 3 sc.  Repeat from * around, end sc, join with SL St.

Finishing: Place can in cover.  Cut 7 inch length of yarn, thread through ch-sp of Rnd 27, draw yarn and tighten, tie firmly.

Ears: (Make 2) Ch 6, join with SL St to form ring, ch 1.

Rnd 1: Work 10 sc in ring, join with SL St, ch 1 - 10 sc.

Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around -20 sc.  Join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 3: Work *2 sc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * around - 30 sc.  Join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 4: Work *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 sc.  Repeat from * around, end with 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc - 34 sts.  Join with SL St, ch 1.

Rnd 5: Work sc in each of next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc.  Repeat from * around, end with sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc - 38 sts.  Join with SL St, fasten off.

Trunk: Ch 16.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Draw up lp in each of first 2 sc, yo and draw through 3 lps on hook (1 sc dec), sc in each sc to last 2 sc, dec 1 sc, ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Dec 1 sc, sc in each sc to last 2 SC, dec 1 sc over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn.  Repeat Row 4 until 5 sc remain.  Working on 5 sc, work 13 rows more, fasten off.  Leaving top 5 rows open, sew edges of trunk together to form long tube shape.  Flatten top rows of trunk and pin in place just above center of can (see photo).  Sew trunk in place.

Eyes: Sew piece of white felt in place at top and to each side of trunk.  Sew button at center of each eye.  Sew ears in place at each side of eyes as shown.
