    CAP   Baby Crochet
Convert this pattern to knit 

This Cap and Booties can be made with the following:

"DAWN" or "CLOVER LEAF" NYLON or NYLON POMPADOUR or
DAWN" BABY YARN or 'DAWN" INFANTS WOOL

2 oz.  White or color desired and

"STAR" RAYON CROCHET, Article 700.
1 ball White or any contrasting color for trim.
1 ½ yds. 1-inch ribbon.
1 yd. ¼ -inch ribbon.

Plastic crochet hook No. 2.
Steel crochet hook No. 1.

With White and No. 2 hook, ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 3 and work 15 dc in ring, join in 3rd st of ch.
2nd Round.  Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in same space, 2 dc in each remaining st, join in 3rd st of ch.

3rd Round.  Working in dc increase in every 2nd st, join in 3rd st of ch.

4th Round.  Increase in every 3rd st (64 sts), join in 3rd st of ch,  ch 1, turn.

5th Round.  sc in same space, * skip next st, 5 dc in next st (5 dc shell), skip next st, sc in next st, repeat from * all around ( 16 shells ), join in 1st sc, turn.

6th Round.  Slip st to center dc of next shell, ch 1, sc in same space, * shell in back loop of next sc between shells, sc in center st of next shell, repeat from * all around, join in l st sc, turn.

7th, 8th and 9th Rounds.  Same as 6th round, turn.

10th Row.  Ch 3, 2 dc in back loop of next sc, sc in center st of next shell, * shell in back loop of next sc, sc in center st of next shell, repeat from * 11 times, 3 dc in next sc (3 shells free at back of cap), ch 1, turn.

11th Row.  sc in same space, * shell in back loop of next st, sc in center st of next shell, repeat from * across Row ending with sc in 3rd st of end ch, ch 1, turn.  Repeat last 2 rows 4 times, cut yarn.  Work 2 rows of sc across lower edge of cap.

EDGE: With right side toward you and No. 1 hook attach Rayon Crochet in 1st sc, ch 1, sc in same space, * work 1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in each dc of next shell, skip next sc between shells, repeat from * across front edge ending with sc in last sc, cut yarn.  Trim with ribbon ties is illustrated.

  BOOTIES 

 No. 2 hook ch '38, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, turn.

Next 3 Rows.  Ch 3, 1 dc in each dc, turn.

Next Row.  Ch 1, sc in same space, skip next 2 sts, * 5 dc shell in next st, skip next st, sc in next st, skip next st, repeat from 4: across Row ending last repeat with skip 2 sts, sc in last st.

Next 2 Rows.  Work in pattern same as 10th and 11th rows of Cap.

Next Row, Same as 10th Row of Cap, cut yarn. Fold work in half and mark center for instep, attach yarn in 5th st from center, ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 8 dc, ch 3, turn.

Next Row.  1 dc in each dc, ch 3, turn.  Repeat last Row 3 times, cut yarn, turn.  Attach yarn at back of Bootie and working across foundation ch, ch 3, 1 dc in each dc, 12 dc up side of instep, 8 dc across front of instep, 12 dc down opposite side, 1 dc in each st of foundation ch, ch 3 to turn each Row.

Next Row.  1 dc in each dc decreasing 2 sts at center of toe (to decrease: * yarn over hook, insert in next st, pull through and work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one
time).

Next Row. 1 dc in each dc decreasing 1 st at beginning and end of Row and decreasing 3 dc around toe.

Next Row.  Working in dc, decrease 1 st at beginning and end of Row.

Next Row.  Decrease 1 dc at beginning and end of Row and 2 dc at center of toe, cut yarn. sew back seam and across lower edge.  Work edge across top of Bootie same as on Cap.  Lace ribbon in and out through 3rd Row of dc from top of Bootie.
