Buttons
Convert this pattern to knit These are very simple to make crochet buttons, which will add a certain charm to your garment.
ABBREVIATIONS:
ch = chain
in = inches)
mm = millimeters
rnd = round
sc = single crochet
ss = slip stitch
MATERIALS:
Use the same yarn or a contrasting yarn as in the garment. If the garment is crocheted, use the same hook size. If the garment is knitted, use a hook the same size as the needles used. For example, if the garment used 4.5 mm needles, use a 4.5 mm hook. A smaller hook will make smaller buttons. A larger hook will make larger buttons.
SMALL BUTTON:
Ch 2 leaving about 5 ins (13cm) of yarn at the start.
lst Rnd: Work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ss into 1st sc.
2nd Rnd: Ch 1. *Draw up a loop in 1st sc. Draw up a loop in next sc. Yarn over hook, and draw through all three loops on hook. Repeat from * three times, so that all 8 sc in 1st rnd have been worked. Ss into 1st sc to complete rnd.
Fasten off, leaving end 5 ins (13cm) long.
Finishing: Enclose yarn at start of chain inside button to create a filling. Thread other end of yarn through a tapestry needle and gather opening of button. Draw closed and tie.
LARGE BUTTON
Ch 2 leaving about 6 ins (15cm) of yarn at the start.
1st Rnd: Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ss into 1st sc.
2nd Rnd: Ch 1. Make 2 sc into each sc of 1st rnd. (10 sc on 2nd rnd.). Ss into 1st sc.
3rd Rnd: Ch 1. Make 1 sc into each sc of 2nd rnd. (10 sc on 3rd rnd). Ss into l st sc.
4th Rnd: Ch 1. *Draw up a loop in 1st sc of 3rd rnd. Draw up a loop in next sc of 3rd rnd. Yarn over hook, and draw through all three loops on hook. Repeat from * four times, so that all 10 sc in 3rd rnd have been worked. Ss into 1st sc to complete rnd.
Fasten off, leaving end 6 ins (15cm) long.
