No. 10 Steel Crochet Hook.

  GAUGE: Each Block measures 7 ½ inches.  Work tightly for best results.

1st BLOCK (BLK): Starting in center, ch 7, join with Sl St to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 6, dc in ring, (ch 3, dc) 6 times in ring, ch 3, join to 3d St of ch-6 (8 sps).

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same St, (3 sc in next sp, sc in next dc) repeated around, join to front lp of lst sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same lp, (ch 1, 2 dc in front lp of next sc, ch 1, sc in front lp of next sc) repeated around, joining thru both lps of l st sc (16 shells) -

Rnd4: Ch 1, sc directly behind in remaining lp of sc Rnd 2, sc in remaining lp of next 31 sc, join in thru back lp of 1 st sc.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same lp, working in back lps, (ch 1, 2 dc in next st, ch 1, sc in next st) repeated around, join thru both lps of l st sc.  Shells should be directly behind shells in Rnd 3.

Rnd 6: SL St to l st dc in next shell, ch 1, draw up a lp in same dc, draw up a lp in next dc, Y 0 and draw thru all 3 lps on hook, (ch 5, draw up a lp in each of 2 d2 in next shell, Y 0 and draw thru 3 lps on hook) repeated around, end with ch 2, dc in I st sc f or final lp.

Rnd 7: 4 dc in back lp of same sc, sc in next ch-5 lp, (4 dc in back lp of next sc between lps, sc in next ch-5 lp) repeated around.

Rnd 8: Ch 6, (tr in 2d dc on next shell, ch 1, tr in next dc, ch 1, tr in sc between shells drawing it up even with other tr, ch 1) repeated around, join to 5th St of ch-6 (48 sps).

Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in same St, (1 sc in next sp, sc in next tr, 2 sc in next sp, sc in next tr) repeated around (120 sc), join to front lp of l sc, sc.
Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in same lp, (working in front lps, ch 1, dc in next 2 sc, ch 1, sc in next sc) repeated around, joining thru both lps of l st sc (40 shells).

Rnd 11: Ch 1, sc directly be-hind in remaining lp of sc in Rnd 9, sc in remaining lp of next 119 sc, join thru back lp of l st sc.

Rnd 12: Ch 1, sc in same lp, (working in back lps, ch 1, dc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, ch 1, sc in next sc) repeated around, join.  Shells should be directly behind shells in Rnd 10.

Rnd 13: SL St to center dc on next shell, ch 1, sc in same St, (ch 5, sc in center dc on next shell) repeated around, end with ch 2, dc in l st sc for final lp.

Rnd 14: 3 dc in back lp of same sc, sc in next ch-5 lp, (3 dc in back lp of next sc between shells, sc in next ch-5 lp) repeated around.  Rnd 15: SL St to center dc of next shell, ch 1, sc in same St, (ch 7, sc in next shell) 39 times, ch 3, join with dc in 1 st sc.

Rnd 16: (Ch 7, sc in next lp) 39 times, ch 3, dc in dc at end of last rnd.

Rnd 17: * Ch 3, 3 tr in next lp, ch 3, (3 dtr, ch 7, 3 dtr) in next lp, ch 3, 3 tr in next lp, ch 3, sc in next lp, (ch 7, sc in next lp) 6 times.  Repeat from * around, end with only 5 ch-7 lps, ch 3, join with dc in dc at end of last rnd.

Rnd 18: * Ch 3, tr in next tr, 2 tr in next tr, I tr in next tr, ch 3, Tr in next dtr, 2 tr in next dtr, 1 tr in next dtr, ch 3, (3 dtr, ch 7, 3 dtr) in next (corner) lp, ch 3, tr in next dtr, 2 tr in next dtr, 1 tr in next dtr, ch 3, tr in next tr, 2 tr in next tr, I tr in next tr, ch 3, sc in next lp, (ch 7, sc in next lp) twice, 5 dc in back lp of next sc between lps, sc in next lp, (ch 7, sc in next lp) twice.  Repeat from * around, end with only 1 ch-7 lp, ch 3,join in with dc in dc at end of last rnd.

Rnd 19: * Ch 3, tr in next 2 tr, 2 tr in next tr, 1 tr in next tr, ch 2, tr in next 2 tr, 2 tr in next tr, 1 tr in next tr, ch 2, tr in next dtr, 2 tr in next dtr, 1 tr in next dtr, ch 2, (3 tr, ch 7, 3 tr) in next (corner) lp, ch 2, tr in next dtr, 2 tr in next dtr, 1 tr in next dtr, (ch 2, tr in   next tr, 2 tr in next tr, tr in next 2 tr) twice, ch 3, sc in next lp, ch 7, sc in next lp, 5 dc in back lp of next sc, sc in center dc of next shell, 5 dc in back lp of next sc, sc in next lp, ch 7, sc in next lp. FOR SINGLE SIZE SPREAD, make 9 rows of 14 Blocks, joining adjacent sides as 2d Blk was joined to lst Block (where 4 corners meet, join 3d and 4th corners to joining of 1st 2 corners).

FOR DOUBLE SIZE SPREAD, make 12 rows of 14 Blocks.

EDGING:
Rnd 1: Attach to one corner, ch 8, dc in same place, ch 5, sk 1 Blk, dc in next sp, *ch 6, sk 3 dc, dc in next sp, (ch 7, dc in next sp) twice, ch 9, tr in next sp, (ch 7, dc in sc between next 2 shells) twice, ch 7, tr in next sp, ch 9, dc in next sp, (ch 7, dc in next Sp) twice, ch 6, dc in next sp, ch 5, sk next sp, dc between corner joining of Blks, ch 5, sk next sp, dc in next sp; repeat from * to next corner sp, ch 5, dc in same corner sp, ch 5, dc in next sp; repeat from * around, join to 3d st of ch-8.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, 7 sc in next ch-5 corner lp, sc in next dc, * 5 sc in next sp, sc in dc, 6 sc in next sp, sc in dc, (7 sc in next sp, sc in next dc) twice, 9 sc in next sp, sc in tr, (7 sc in next sp, sc in next st) 3 times, 9 sc in next sp, sc in dc, (7 sc in next sp, sc in dc) twice, 6 sc in next sp, sc in dc, 5 sc in next sp, sc in dc; repeat from * around making each corner like l st one.  Join with sl st in 1st 2 sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same sc with last sl st, (ch 5, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc) twice, (ch 5, sk 4 sc, sc in next sc) repeated around making each corner like first one; join with ch 2, dc in back lp of  lst sc.

Rnd 4: 4 more dc in same st, sc in
next lp, (4 dc in back lp of next sc between lps, sc in next lp) repeated around.  Join and fasten off.

Stretch and pin spread right-side-down in true shape.  Steam and press dry thru a doubled cloth.
