Materials for hat; Knitting Worsted weight (100% wool), 1 (4-0z) color A.
Persian Needlepoint and Crewel Wool, 2 (40.yd) skeins color B, 1 skein each color C and D.
Scarf; Knitting Worsted, 2 (4-oz) balls color A.
Persian Needlepoint and Crewel Wool, 4 (40-yd) skeins color B.
3 skeins color D, 1 skein color C.
Aluminum crochet hook size F or international hook size (4.00 mm) or the size that will give you the correct gauge.
GAUGE; sc = 2".
Starting at top of crown with B, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.
1st rnd; Work 6 sc in ring. Mark beg of rnd. but do not join turn.
2nd rnd; Work 2 sc in each Sc around (12 sc).
3rd rnd; (Sc in next Sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times (18 Sc).
4th rnd; (Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 Sc in next sc) 6 times (24 sc).
5th rnd; Sc in each sc around, increasing 6 sc as evenly spaced as possible (30 sc).
6th through 15th rnd; Repeat 5th rnd. 10 time. (96 sc).
Break off B, attach C.
16th rnd; With C, Sc in each sc around, increasing 4 Sc (94 St).
17th rnd; Working in front Ip only of each st. sc in each of 1st 3 sc; * work 8 dc in next sc, remove Ip from hook, insert hook through 1st dc and through dropped lp, y o and pull through all lps on hook to form cup, sc in each of next 3 sc, drop Ip from hook, Insert hook in 4th dc of cup and in dropped Ip, y o and pull through all lps on hook (bobble made), sc in each of next 3 sc (bobble is pulled to 1 side and slightly flattened) *. Repeat from * to * 12 times more.
18th rnd; Working in back Ip only of each at (these are the lps you did not work in on 17th rnd), sc in each sc of 16th rnd to form ridge.
With A, work 4 rnds even in sc. With B, work 1 rnd even. With B, repeat 17th and 18th rnds.
With A, work 4 rnds even in sc. With D, work 1 rnd. even. With D, repeat 17th and 18th rnds. Working even in sc. Work 4 rnds C, 4 B.
Last rnd; With D, from left to right, work reverse sc in each sc around to form ropelike edging; join. Break off. Piece should measure about 7½ from beg.
Reverse Single Crochet
Working lengthwise with A, ch 179 to measure 40”.
1st Row (wrong side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; ch 1, turn.
2nd Row; Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn,
3rd Row; Repeat 2nd Row. Drop A, attach B.
4th Row (right side): Working in front lps only with B, sc in each of 1st 3 sc, work from * to * of 17th rnd of hat 25 times. Break off B, pick up A. Ch 1, turn.
5th Row; Working in un-worked lps only of 3rd Row, with A, sc in each sc across.
6th and 7th rows; With A, sc in each sc across.
Repeat 4th through 7th Row 7 times more, working each 4th Row in color sequence of D, B, C, D, B, D and B, and with A, working each 5th through 7th Row. Break off.
Finishing Tassel Fringe; For each tassel, cut five 12” lengths A. Hold strands tog and fold in half to form Ip, insert crochet hook through st on scarf and pull lp through. Draw ends through lp and tighten. Work tassels across ends of scarf.
