MATERIALS

  BERNAT Super Baby Wool (1 oz. pull skeins) - 12,
1 pair each 14 inch straight knitting needles Nos. 2 and 5,
1 steel crochet hook No. 4,
1 small pearl button,
1 cap lining,
Ribbon for trim.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch
12 rows = 1 inch on No. 2 needles
5 sts = 1 inch on No. 5 needles

  

SHAWL
PATTERN STITCH:
Worked on an even number of sts.
Row 1: K 1, * y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, repeat from * ending K 1.

Repeat Row 1 throughout.

DIRECTIONS: Using No. 5 needles, cast on 180 sts.

Work even in pattern St until piece measures 36 inches. 

Bind off loosely.

FRINGE: Cut strands of yarn 10 inches long.
Using 3 strands together, make a double knotted fringe on all edges.

SACQUE
BODY: Using No. 2 needles, cast on 160 sts.
Work 8 rows (4 ridges) in garter St.
Then work as follows:

Row 1: K 4, yo, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 8, repeat from * ending y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 4.

Row 2: K 4, * y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, P 8, repeat from * ending y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 4.

Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 5 ½ inches, ending with row 2.

DIVIDE WORK: Work across 40 sts (right front); put next 80 sts on a holder for back; put last 40 sts on another holder for left front.  Working on 40 sts of right front, in pattern St as established, at arm edge dec 1 St every other row 6 times, ending with a wrong side row.  Put these 34 sts on a holder.  sl 80 sts of back onto No. 2 needle. join yarn and working in pattern St as established, dec 1 St at each arm edge every other row 6 times, ending with a wrong side row.  Put these 68 sts on a holder.  sl 40 sts of left front onto No. 2 needle and work to correspond to right front.

FIRST SLEEVE: Using No. 2 needles, cast on 60 sts.

Work in same pattern St as shawl for 5 rows.

Work next 8 rows (4 ridges) in garter St.

Then work as follows: K 4, * y 0, sl 1,1, psso, K 8, repeat from * ending y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 4.

Row 2: P 4, * yo, sl 1, K 1, psso, P 8, repeat from * ending yo, sl 1, K 1, psso, P 4.

Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 6 ½ inches, ending with Row 2.

Dec 1 St each end of needle every other row 6 times, ending with a wrong side row.
Put these 48 sts on a holder.

SECOND SLEEVE: Work in same manner as first sleeve.

YOKE: Using No. 2 needles, K 34 sts of right front from holder; K 48 sts of one sleeve onto same needle, K 68 sts of back, K 48 sts of second sleeve, K 34 sts of left front.

Work is now joined and there are 232 sts on needle.

K the next Row.

K the following row, dec 10 sts, evenly spaced.

Continue in garter St, dec 10 sts, evenly spaced, every other row 14 times more.

Work even on 82 sts for 6 rows (3 ridges).
Bind off.

FINISHING: Sew sleeve seams and sew sleeves into armholes below yoke.

Work 1 row sc around all edges, holding in slightly around neck.

Make a button loop on right front neck edge.  Block to size.

Sew button on left front.

   

BONNET

Using No. 2 needles, cast on 7 sts.

Row 1 and all uneven rows: Purl.

Row 2: * yo, K 1, repeat from * across row -7 sts inc.

Row 4: * Y o, K 2, repeat from * across row - 7 sts inc. 

Continue in this manner, inc 7 sts every other row and having 1 St more between y o's every other row, until there are 98 sts.

K 4 ridges (8 rows) in garter St, inc 1 St each end of needle on last row.

Work in pattern St as follows:
Row 1: K 4, * y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 8, repeat from * ending y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 4.

Row 2: K 4, * y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, P 8, repeat from * ending y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 4.

Repeat these 2 rows for 2 ½ inches.

Work 8 rows (4 ridges) in garter St.

  

RUFFLE: * K 1, inc in next St, repeat from * across row.

Work in same pattern St as shawl for 1 inch.  K 1 row.  Bind off loosely.

FINISHING: Seam back of cap to beg of garter St. Block to size.

Sew in cap lining.  Sew ribbon rosettes at each side and sew on ribbon ties.

BOOTEES

Using No. 2 needles, cast on 50 sts. 

Work 8 rows (4 ridges). 

Work as follows:
Row 1: K 4, * yo, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 8, repeat from *, ending yo, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 4.

Row 2: P 4, * y o, sl 1, K 1, psso, P 8, repeat from *, ending yo, sl 1 ' K 1, psso, P 4.

Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 2 ½ inches.

BEADING: * K 2, yo, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.

INSTEP: P 31, put remaining 19 sts on a holder, turn and K 12, put remaining 19 sts on another holder. 

Work back and forth on 12 sts of instep for 2 inches, ending with a K row.

With right side facing you, pick up 12 sts along side of instep on same needle; then K 19 sts from holder. 

P back across these 43 sts.

Break off yarn.

With right side facing you, sl 19 sts from other holder onto needle; join yarn and K across these 19 sts and pick up 12 sts along other side of instep piece; K across 43 sts.

Work even in stockinette St on these 74 sts for 1 inch.

Work as follows:
Row 1: K 2 tog, K 28, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, K 8,K 3 tog, K 28, K 2 tog.

Row 2 and all even rows: Purl.

Row 3: K 2 tog, K 26, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, K 6, K 3 tog, K 26, K 2 tog.

Row 5: K 2 tog, K 24, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, K 4, K 3 tog, K 24, K 2 tog.

Row 6: Purl.  Bind off all sts.

FINISHING: Seam back of leg and bottom of foot.  Block.

 Run ribbon through beading and tie in bow.
