Convert this pattern to crochet
The luster of 100% alpaca gives distinction to this man's cable vest from Andean Yarns.
Directions are given for size small with changes for medium and large given in parentheses.
Andean's "Alpaquita Superfina" 4 ply worsted weight, available in 100 gram balls (220 yards per ball), is the finest quality 100% alpaca available.
You will need 4 (5, 5) balls "Alpaquita Superfina," one pair each numbers 4 and 6 standard knitting needles or size required to obtain given gauge and one cable stitch holder.
Gauge: In stockinette on larger needles -11 sts equal 2 inches 7 rows equal 1 inch

With smaller needles cast on 86 (98,108) sts.
Work in ribbing (k 1, p 1) for 2 ¼ inches, inc 16 (16,16) sts on last Row - 102 (114,124) sts.
Change to larger needles and work in stockinette (k 1 Row, p 1 Row) until total length measures 13 ½ inches, end with p row.
Bind off 4 (6, 7) sts beginning of next 2 rows.
Dec one st each end of needle every other row 4 (5, 7) times - 86 (92, 96) sts.
Work even until length from beginning of armhole shaping measures 8 (8 ½, 9 ¼) inches, end with p row.
Bind off 8 (8, 9) sts beginning of next 2 rows, 7 (8, 8) sts beginning of following 6 rows.
Bind off remaining 28 (28, 30) sts for back of neck.
With smaller needles cast on 120 (133,146) sts.
Work in ribbing for 2 ¼ inches.
Change to larger needles and begin cable pattern as follows:
Row 1: (Right Side) *K 3, p 2, k 6, p 2, repeat from * 8 (9, 10) times, end k 3.
Row 2 and ALL EVEN rows through row 16: *P 3, k 2, p 6, k 2, repeat from * across, end p 3.
Row 3: *K 3, p 2, sl next 3 sts to cable needle and hold in back of work, k 3, k 3 from cable needle, p 2, repeat from * across, end k 3.
Row 5: *K 3, p 2, k 6, p 2, repeat from * across, end k 3.
Row 7: Repeat row 3.
Rows 9, 11, 13, 15: Repeat row 5.
Repeat Rows 3 through 16 for cable pattern.
Work even in cable pattern until length is same as back to armhole, end with p row.
Keeping to pattern, bind off 6 (7, 8) sts beginning of next 2 rows.
Dec one st each end every other row 5 (6, 8) times - 98 (107, 114) sts.
When length from beginning of armhole shaping measures 2 ½ inches, end with p row.
Neck Shaping: Sizes Small and Large:
Work half of sts (small 49, large 57 sts) and sl to holder for left shoulder, complete row.
Size Medium: Work to center st (53 sts), Sl st to holder for left shoulder, bind off center St, complete row.
All Sizes: Working on right shoulder sts, dec one St at neck edge every other Row 15 (15,18) times.
When armhole measures same as back to shoulder, end at armhole edge. * Bind off 9 (10, 10) sts, work even 1 Row. Repeat from * once.
Bind off 8 (9, 10) sts, work 1 row even.
Bind off remaining 8 (9, 9) sts.
Work left shoulder as for right shoulder, reversing shaping.
Finishing: Sew left shoulder seam.
With smaller needles and right side facing, pick up 31 (31, 33) sts at back of neck, pick up 42 (46, 50) sts along left neck edge.
Sizes Small and Large: Pick up one st at center front, place marker.
Size Medium: Pick up one St at bound off center St, place marker.
All Sizes: Pick up 42 (46, 50) sts along right neck edge - 116, (124, 134) sts.
Row 1: (Wrong Side) *P 1, k 1, repeat from * to one st before marked (center) St. With yarn in front, insert right needle into 2nd and first sts as if to p 2 tog through back lps and sl these 2 sts tog
to right needle, p 1, p2sso. *P 1, k 1, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 2: (Right Side) Work in ribbing as established to one st before marked (center) St. Sl 2nd and first st to right needle as if to k 2 tog, k 1, p2sso, work in ribbing as established to end of row.
Continue to dec one St each side of center st each row as above for 3 more rows.
Bind off loosely in ribbing.
Sew right shoulder and neckband seam.
Armband: With smaller needles and right side facing, pick up 96 (102,112) sts along armhole edge.
Work in ribbing for 6 rows.
Bind off in ribbing.
Sew side seams.
