Child's Pullover Irish Knit 

Convert this pattern to crochet

These directions are for children's small size (4-6). Changes for medium size (8-10) and large size (12-14) are in parentheses.

MATERIALS BERNAT BLARNEYSPUN  (50 g ball~)  10(10-11) OR ANY EQUIVALENT KNITTING WORSTED WEIGHT YARN THAT WILL GIVE THE SPECIFIED STITCH GAUGE

1 pair each BERNAT-Aero straight knitting needles Nos. 4 and 6 (3.50 mm and 4.25 mm) OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES THAT WILL GIVE THE SPECIFIED STITCH GAUGE

PATTERN STITCH FOR BACK AND FRONT

Row 1: (K 1, p 1) 9(11-13) times, k 8, p 6; sl next st onto cable needle and hold in BACK of work, k next 2 sts, p st from cable needle (RS 3); k 2, p 6, k 8, (p 1, k 1) 9 (11-13) times.

Row 2: (K 1, p 1) 8(10-12) times, k 2, p 8, k 6, p 2, k 1, p 2, k 6, p 8, k 2, (p 1, k 1) 8(10-12) times.

Row 3: (K 1, p 1) 9(11-13) times; sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, k next 2 sts, k 2 sts from cable needle (FC 4); sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in BACK of work, k next 2 sts, k 2 sts from cable needle (BC 4); p 5, RS 3, k 1; sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, p 1, k 2 sts from cable needle (LS 3); p 5, FC 4, BC 4, (p 1, k 1) 9(11-13) times.

Row 23: (K 1, p 1) 9(11-13) times, BC 4, FC 4, p 6; sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in FRONT of work, p 1, k 2, then k 2 sts from cable needle; p 6, BC 4, FC 4, (p 1, k 1) 9(11-13) times.

Row 24: (K 1, p 1) 8(10-12) times, k 2, p 8, k 6, p 4, k 7, p 8, k 2, (p 1, k 1) 8(10-12) times.

Repeat these 24 rows for pattern stitch for back and front.

BACK: Using smaller straight needles, cast on 68(76-84) sts.

Row 1: * K in BACK of next st (k 1 B), p 1, repeat from * across row.

Row 2· K 1, p 1, repeat from * across row.

Repeat these 2 rows for 20 rows, inc 1 st at beg of last row -- 69(77-85) sts.

Change to larger needles and work even in pattern st for back until piece measures 9 ¼ (11 ¼, 12 ¼ ) inches, ending with a wrong side row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 3(5-5) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row twice.

Work even on 59 (63-71) sts until armholes measure 4 ¾ (5-6 ¼ ) inches, ending with a wrong side row.

SHAPE SHOULDERS: At the beg of each of the next 4 rows bind off 5(5-6) sts. At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 4 (5-6) sts. Sl remaining 31(33-35) sts onto a holder.

FRONT: Work to correspond to back until armholes measure 3 ¼ (3 ½ -4 ¾ ) inches, ending with a wrong side row.

SHAPE NECK: Work 23 (24-27) sts, sl center 13(15-17) sts onto a holder, join another ball of yarn, work last 23(24-27) sts.

Working on both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY ROW 9 times.

Work even on 14(15-18) sts of each side until armholes measure 4 ¾ (5-6 ¼ ) inches.

SHAPE SHOULDERS: At each arm edge bind off 5(5-6) sts twice and 4(5-6) sts once.

SLEEVES: Using smaller straight needles, cast on 30(32-34) sts.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 of back ribbing for 10 rows, inc 1 st at beg of last Row -- 31(33,35) sts.

Change to larger needles and work even in seed st for 4 rows.

On the next Row inc 1 st each end of needle and repeat this inc every 1(1, ¾ ) inch 7 (8-10) times more, forming new patterns as sts are inc.

Work even on 47(51,57) sts until piece measures 11(12 ¾ ,13 ¾ )inches, ending with a wrong side row.

SHAPE CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 3(5-5) sts.

Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row for 2 ¾ (3-3 ¼ ) inches.

At the beg of each of the next 8 rows bind off 2 sts.

Bind off remaining sts.

FINISHING: Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.

NECKBAND: With right side facing you and using dp needles, pick up and k 76(80-84) sts around neck edge, including sts from holders.

Round 1: * K 1 B, p 1, repeat from * around.

Round 2: * K 1, p 1, repeat from * around.

Repeat these 2 rounds twice more.

Bind off loosely in ribbing.
