Easy Check Patterned Pullover

Convert this pattern to crochet

You're a splash hit at poolside parties when you wear this cool cotton pullover with boat neck and simple rectangular check pattern.  Or take it to the lake and spend those cool summer evenings in style.

 
Directions are given to fit sizes 10-12, with changes for sizes 14-16 and 18-20 given in parentheses.  

You will need 21 (24, 27) ounces of  100% cotton sport weight yarn in blue mist.  

Also required are numbers 5 and 7 standard knitting needles or size required for gauge.

Gauge: Pattern stitch with larger needles:
5 sts equal 1 inch, 7 rows equal 1 inch

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME 'N CHECK GAUGE.

Finished Bust Measurement:  32 ½ - 34  (36-38, 40-42) inches

Finished Width at Underarm: 19 (20 ½, 22 ¾ inches

BACK: Twisted Ribbing: Starting at lower edge, with smaller needles cast on 90 (96,108) sts.

Row 1: *K in back of next st, p 1 Repeat from * across.  Repeat Row 1 for 2 ¾ inches, inc 6 sts evenly spaced across, last Row - 96 (102,114) sts.

Change to larger needles and work in pattern as follows:

Row 1: (Right side) K.

Row 2: *K 3, p 3. Repeat from * across.

Rows 3: through 20: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 alternately.

Row 21: K.

Row 22: *P 3, k 3. Repeat from * across.

Rows 23 through 40: Repeat Rows 21 and 22 alternately. 

Repeat Rows 1 through 40 for pattern until total length measures 13 (13 ½, 14) inches, end with wrong side row.  

Mark each end of last Row for top of side seam.  Continue in pattern until length from markers measures 8 ½ (9, 9 ½ ) inches, end with wrong side Row.  

Bind off.  

Mark 24 (26, 30)th st in from each side edge to indicate shoulder seam.

FRONT: Work as for back until length from markers measures 7 ½ (8, 8 ½) inches, end with wrong side row.

   

First Neck Shaping:
Row 1: Work in pattern across first 26 (28, 32) sts, place remaining sts on holder. Turn. 

Continuing in pattern as established, dec one st at neck edge on next Row and every other row until 24 (26, 30) sts remain on needle.  

Work even in pattern until length from first row of neck shaping measures 1 inch, end with wrong side row.  Bind off.

Second Neck Shaping: Sl sts from holder to larger needle.  With right side facing, bind off first 44 (46, 50) sts for center front, work in pattern across remaining sts - 26 (28, 32) sts.  

Complete to correspond to opposite side.  Sew left shoulder seam.

Neckband: With right side facing and smaller needles and starting at right shoulder marker, pick up and k 48 (50,54) sts along back neck edge, pick up and k 60 (62, 64) sts along front edge -108 (112, 118) sts. 

K 6 rows.

Bind off loosely.

Sew right shoulder seam including neckband.

   

SLEEVES: With right side facing and larger needles, pick up and k 84 (90, 96) sts evenly along armhole edge between markers. 

K 5 rows.

Work in pattern as follows: Row 1: K.

Row 2: *K 3, p 3. Repeat from * across. 

Rows 1 and 2 form pattern. 

Work in pattern for 8 rows. 

Keeping in pattern, dec one st at each end on next row and every 6th row until 60 (64, 68) sts remain. 

Work even until sleeve measures 13 (13 ½, 14) inches, end with wrong side row.

Next Row: Dec 20 sts evenly spaced, work across - 40 (44, 48) sts.

Change to smaller needles and work in twisted ribbing for 6 rows.

Next Row: K across for turning ridge.

Following 6 Rows: Work in twisted ribbing. 

Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Finishing: Sew sleeve and side seams. 

Fold sleeve ribbing along ridge to wrong side. 

Sew bound- off edge to first row of ribbing.
