Cardigan Coat

Convert this pattern to crochet

 SIZES:     Misses' small (medium-large). Garment width around underarms, about 35¼" (39 ¾","44")

 MATERIALS:  Bulky knitting worsted. 12 - (13-14) ozs. Pink (A), 14 (15-16) ozs. Violet (B), 2 ozs. Blue-grey (C). 

Knitting needles No. 10. Or size required to knit to gauge. 7 buttons.

GAUGE: 13 sts = 4"; 28 rows = 4".

PATTERN STITCH: Multiple of 2 sts.

Row 1 (right side); * K 1, K1 in Row below, (this unravels the st above); repeat from * across.

Row 2: With right hand needle, k the thread from unraveled st of previous row with the next st above it, K 1, repeat from * across.

Row 3:* K1 in row below, K 1: repeat from * across.

Row 4: * K 1, k the next st with thread as row 2, * repeat from * across.

Repeat Rows 1 through 4 for pat st.

NOTE: Cut and join yarn as needed.

BACK: With No. 10 needles and color C, cast on 54 (60-66) sts.

Row 1 (wrong side): K. * Keeping 1 st at each edge in stockinette st for seam st, work in pat st 2 rows C, 2 rows B, 2 rows A, 2 rows B, 2 rows C, then 2¼" A, ending with a right side row.

With A, p 1 Row picking up thread,

K 1 Row,

with C, p 1 Row. * Repeat from * to * until 3rd A pat has been completed as above.

Work in pat 2 rows C,

2 rows B,

2 rows: A,

2 rows B.

2 rows C,

ending with a wrong side Row.

Shape Raglan Armholes: Keeping to pat st only (no stockinette st rows) hereafter in the following color sequence: 3" B,

2 rows C,

2 rows B,

2 rows A,

2 rows B,

2 rows C, then continue with A thereafter.

At the same time, bind off 3 sts at beg of first 2 raglan rows, then dec 1 st each edge every other row 11 (13-15) times, then every 4th Row 5 times.

Bind off remaining 16 (18-20) sts.

RIGHT FRONT:with No. 10 needles and C, cast on 28 (32-36) sts.

Work pat same as back. Work until 4½" from beg, end at front edge.

Pocket Opening: Keeping to pat, work 16 (18-20) sts.

Join another ball of corresponding color and work remaining 12 (14-16) sts.

Cast on 14 sts for pocket lining.

Work both sides at once with separate balls of yarn for 6¼", end at front edge.

On last row bind off 14 sts of pocket lining.

Next Row: Keeping to pat. Work 16 (18-20) sts with same ball of yarn dropping 2nd ball, work across 12 (14-16) sts.

Continue in pat working 28 (32-36), sts in one piece again.

Work until same length as back to underarm, end side edge.

 Shape Raglan Armhole: Keeping to pattern, bind off first 3 sts, finish row.

Dec 1 st at armhole edge every other row 11 (13 -15) times, then every 4th row 2 times, end at front edge.

Shape Neck: Bind off first 4 (6-8) sts, finish row. Continue in established pat. dec 1 st at armhole edge every 4th row 3 times more; at the same time, dec 1 st at neck edge every row 5 times. Fasten off.

LEFT FRONT: Work to correspond to Right Front, reversingshaping.

 

SLEEVES:  With No. 10 needles and B, cast on 36 (40-44) sts.

Work in twisted K 1, p1, ribbing working in back of every k st for 2¾".

End right side Row.

Next Row (wrong side) K inc 10 sts evenly spaced across row 46 (50-54) as.

Work in pat st only (no stockinette st rows) throughout in the follow­ing color sequence:

* 2 rows C.

2 rows B,

2 rows A,

2 rows B,

2 rows C,

2¼ " B,

2 rows C,

2 rows B,

2 rows A,

2 rows B,

 2 rows C,

2¼" A *.  

Repeat from * to * for pat.

Work even until about 17 ¾" from beg, ending on same pat Row as back and front at underarm.

Shape Raglan Cap: Keeping to pat, Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Dec 1 each edge every other row 11 (13-15) times, then every 4th Row 5 times = 8 sts.  

Bind off.

POCKET OPENING BORDER: With No. 10 needles and B, cast on 36 sts.

Work in twisted K 1, p 1 ribbing for 1¼".

Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Sew pocket border on side or pocket opening closer to the front edge with sl st.

RIGHT FRONT BORDER: With No. 10 needles and B, cast on enough sts for piece to reach from lower edge to neck edge of jacket.

Work in twisted K 1, p 1. ribbing for 1¼".

Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Mark posi­tion of 7 buttonholes evenly spaced on right front border with he first one 1 from lower edge and the last one to he made ½" below neck edge.

 

LEFT FRONT BORDER: Work same as Right Front Border for ½'. Buttonhole Row: * Work in established ribbing to first marker, bind off 3 sts; repeal from * across all markers, finish row.

Next Row: Work in established ribbing casting on 3 sts over each set of bound-off sts.

Continue in established ribbing until 1 ¼" from beg.

Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Sew each front border to respective front edge with sl sts.

 FINISHING: Sew raglan, side and sleeve seams.

Turn 24 rows of pat st on cuff to right side of sleeve.

 Neckband: With right side facing you, using No. 10 needles and B, starting at right front edge, pick up and K 1 st in each st on right front border, then pick up and K 1 st along right front neck edge, pick up and K 1 st in each bound-off st on sleeve, back neck and other sleeve, then pick up and K 1 st down left front neck edge, then 1 st in each st on left front border having an uneven number of sts.

Row 1 (wrong side): P 1, * k in back of st, p 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: K1 in back of st, * p 1, k in back of st *, repeat from *to * across.

Repeat these 2 rows working last buttonhole on left front when ¾" of ribbing has been completed.

Work until ribbing measures 1 ¼".

Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Overcast buttonholes and sew on buttons.
