Cardigan and Slip-over 

Convert this pattern to crochet

 

Size 8 to 10 years

Needles--1 pair American Standard, No. 2 and 4.

Materials--3 ply yarn. Cardigan (Sport weight) 5 one ounce balls.

8 Buttons

Slip-over, 4 one ounce balls.

Gauge - 7 - sts to 1 inch.

 

SLIP-OVER

Back--With No. 2 needles, cast on 96 sts (102 sts, size 10), K 2 sts, P 2 sts, for 2 inches.

K 4 rows (2 ribs), K 1, *Y O, K 2 tog, repeat from *across Row ending K 1. K 4 rows (2 ribs).

Change to No. 4 needles,

P I Row, K 1 Row, for 10 ½ inches (11 inches, size 10), from start.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows for underarm, then K 2 tog at beg of the next 8 rows (80 sts).

Work even until armhole measures 5 ½ inches (6 inches, size 10), measuring straight up from where the 4 sts were bound off.

Bind off 8 sts at beg of the next 6 rows, bind off remaining 32 sts.

Front--Work front same as for back until piece measures 3 inches above underarm.

K 11 sts, bind off 58, K 11.

Now P 1 Row,

K 1 Row on last 11 sts, increasing 1 st at neck edge, every K Row, until you have 24 sts.

Work even until armhole measures same as for back.

Now bind off 8 sts at armhole edge, 3 times. Work other side to correspond.

Sleeves With No. 2 needles, cast on 58 sts (62 sts, size 10), K 2, P 2 for 1 ½ inches. Repeat pattern same as back and front above ribbing.

Change to No. 4 needles, * P 1 Row, K 1 Row, P 1 Row.

Next K Row, Inc. 1 st on each side, repeat from * until sleeve measures 3 ½ inches, 64 sts; (4 inches, size 10).

Work 3 rows even.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.

K 2 sts tog at beg and end of the next 3 K rows. (50 sts).

Now K 2 tog at beg and end of every 4th Row until you have 36 sts.

K 2 tog at beg and end of every Row, 6 times, bind off remaining 24 sts.

Band at neck--With No. 2 needles, holding right side toward you, pick up 32 sts at back of neck.

K 3 rows.

K l, *Y O, K 2 tog repeat from *across Row.

K 2 rows, bind off.

Pick up 24 sts (place markers) on each side of neck, 58 across front. K back, K 2 sts tog on each side of markers.

K 2 more rows in same manner.

Now K 1, *Y O, K 2 tog, repeat from *across Row.

K 2 more rows, decreasing in same manner, bind off.

Finishing--Sew shoulder seams, sew up side seams and sleeve seams, insert into armholes, having a little fullness at top of sleeve.

 

CARDIGAN

Back--First half of back, left side, with No. 2 needles, cast on 52 sts (56 sts, size 10).

K 6, border, P 2, K 2 across Row.

Next Row, K 2, P 2 across Row, K 6, border.

Repeat these 2 rows for 2 inches, K 4 rows (2 ribs). K 7, *Y O, K 2 tog, repeat from *across Row. K 4 rows.

Change to No. 4 needles, P 1 Row, K 1 Row, keeping last 6 sts K on purled rows for border, until piece measures 11 inches (1 ½ inches, size 10), from start.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next row for underarm, then K 2 tog at beg of every row at armhole, 4 times (44 sts).

Work even until armhole measures 5 inches (5 ½ inches, size 10) measuring straight up from where the 4 sts were bound off.

Bind off 15 sts at neck edge. K 2 sts tog at beg of the next 3 rows at neck edge.

Now bind off 8 sts at beg of armhole edge, 3 times and continue to K 2 tog at neck edge.

Right Side--Work to correspond to left side.

Start first buttonhole 1 inch from bottom as follows: On border side, K 3, bind off 2, K 1, P across Row.

On next Row, cast on 2 sts over those bound off.

Work 7 more buttonholes every 2 inches.

Last buttonhole is made in border at neck.

Front--With No. 2 needles cast on 96 sts (102 sts, size 10). K 2, P 2 for 2 inches.

Work open pattern and continue same as back to underarm.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows for underarm, then K 2 sts tog at beg of every Row, 8 times (80 sts).

Work even until armhole measures 4 inches (4 ½ inches, size 10).

Next Row, K 29 sts, bind off 22, K 29. On these 29 sts, K 2 tog at beg of every Row at neck edge, until you have 24 sts.

Work even until armhole measures same as for back.

Bind off 8 sts at beg of armhole edge, 3 times. Sew shoulder seams.

Band at Neck--With No. 2 needles, on right side, pick up 24 sts on each back. 48 around front. K 2, bind off 2 (buttonhole), K across Row, on next K Row, cast on 2 sts over those bound off.

K 1 more Row. K l, *Y O, K 2 tog, repeat from *across Row.

K 2 more rows, bind off.

Sleeves---With No. 2 needles, cast on 44 sts (48 sts, size 10), K 2 sts, P 2 sts, sts for 1 ½ inches, repeat pattern same as back above ribbing.

Change to No. 4 needles, P 1 Row,

K 1 Row, increasing 6 sts across Row.

*P 1 Row, K 1 Row, for 1 inch, Inc 1 st on each side, repeat from * until sleeve measures 11 inches, 68 sts.

Work 1 inch even or desired length to underarm.

Bind off 4 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.

K 2 tog at beg and end of the next 3 K rows (54 sts).

Now K 2 tog at beg and end of every 4th Row, until you have 42 sts, K 2 tog at beg and end of every Row, 6 times, bind off remaining 30 sts.

Finishing--Sew up side seams and sleeve seams, insert into armhole having a little fullness at top of sleeve. Sew on buttons.
