Cable Turtle Neck

Size 8 to 1O Years
Needles--American Standard No. 3 and 5.
Materials Knitting Worsted, 4 four ounce skeins,
Scale--6 sts to 1 inch (after cable is twisted).
Back: Starting at bottom, with No. 3 needles, east on 76 (size 10, 80 sts). K 2 sts, P 2 sts, for 3 inches.
Change to No. 5 needles, on next Row, inc 1 st, K across, inc last st.
Next Row: K 6, P 6, repeat from *across Row, end Row, K 6.
Repeat these 2 rows, 4 more times.
On right side, make cable as follows: *K 6, sl next 3 sts on cable needle, place needle at back of work, K next 3 sts, then K sts from cable needle, repeat from *across Row. Cable is twisted every I2th Row thru-out sweater.Work even until piece measures 12 inches, or desired length to underarm.
Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows,
K 2 tog at beg of the next 4 rows (68 sts).
Work even until armhole measures 6 inches (6 ½ inches, size 10), K 20, bind off 28, K 20, on the last 20 sts, bind off 6 sts at beg of the next 3 rows at armhole edge and K 2 tog at neck edge. Work other side to correspond.
Front--Work same as for back until armhole measures 4 inches from underarm. K 26, bind off 16, K 26. K 2 tog at beg of every Row at neck edge, until 20 sts remain.
Bind off 6 sts at beg of the next 3 rows at shoulder and dec 1 st at neck edge until all sts are bound off. Work other 26 sts to correspond.
Sleeves--With No. 3 needles, cast on 40 sts, K 2, P 2 ribbing for 2 inches.
Change to No. 5 needles and inc 1 st, K across, inc in last st. K 6, P 6 across Row, end with K 6. K across.
Now follow pattern increasing 1 st at both ends every inch, until sleeve measures 12 inches, 62 sts, work 1 inch even or desired length to underarm.
Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, K 2 tog at beg and end of every 4th Row until you have 42 sts. K 2 tog at beg and end of the next 8 rows (26 sts), bind off.
Sew shoulder seams.
Turtle Neck Band--With No. 3 needles, pick up 52 sts at front, K 2, P 2, ribbing, for 4 inches. Pick up 40 sts at back and K 2, P 2 for 4 inches.
Sew ends together and shoulders. Sew up seams at underarm, sew up sleeve seams, insert into armhole.
CABLE JACKET
Size 8 to 10 years
Needles--American Standard No. 5.Material Knitting Worsted, 4 four ounce skeins.7 buttons.
Scale--6 sts to 1 inch (After Cable is twisted).
Starting at bottom, cast on 162 sts (Size I0, 174 sts), K 7 rows (4 ribs).
K 6, P 6 across Row, end Row, K 6.
K 1 Row.
Repeat these 2 rows, 5 more times.
On right side, make cable as follows: *K 6, slip next 3 sts on cable needle, place needle at back of work, K next 3 sts, then K sts on cable needle, repeat from *across Row.
When work measures 2 ½ inches or every 21st and 22nd rows (22nd and 23rd rows, size 10), from bottom, make buttonhole as follows: On right side of work K 3, bind off 2, K 1, follow pattern.
Work buttonhole every 2 ½ inches 5 more times, last buttonhole is made in neck band. Cable is twisted every 12th Row thru-out sweater.
Work even until you have 4 cables and work 6 more rows in pattern.
Now work ribbing and cable for waistline as follows: On wrong side, K 6, *P 6, K 2, P 2, K 2, repeat from *across Row.
Next Row, K 12, *P 2, K 2, P 2, K 6, repeat from *across, ending with K 12.
Repeat these 2 rows 4 more times, then cable, work 6 more rows.Now continue as before until piece measures 12 inches, from bottom (12 ½ inches, size 10), K 40 (44, size 10), (front), bind off 6, K 70 (74 st, size 10) (back), bind off 6, K 40 (44, size 10), (front).
Work even on these 40 sts front and K 2 tog at armhole edge, 3 times.
When piece measures 16 inches, (16 ½ inches, size 10), bind off 8 sts at neck edge and dec 1 st at neck edge at beg of every Row, until 21 sts remain.
Now bind off 6 sts at armhole edge 3 times and continue to dec at neck until all sts are bound off.
Attach yarn on wrong side of back, follow pattern for 1 Row, now dec 1 st at beg of the next 4 rows.
Work even until back measures 6 inches (6 ½ inches, size 10). Bind off 6 sts at beg of the next 6 rows, bind off remaining 30 sts for back of neck.
Work other front to correspond.
Sleeves -- Cast on 40 sts, K 2, P 2, ribbing for 2 inches.
Next Row, inc 1 st, K across, inc last st. K 6, P 6 across Row, end with K 6. K back.
Now follow pattern increasing 1 st at both ends every inch until sleeve measures 12 inches (62 sts).
Work 1 inch even or desired length to underarm.
Bind off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then bind off 2 sts at beg of the next 2 rows.
Now K 2 tog at beg and end of every 4th Row until 32 sts remain. (30 sts, size 10).
K 2 tog at beg and end of every Row, until you have 22 sts, bind off.
Sew shoulder seams.
Neck Band -- Pick up 25 sts on each front, 26 across back, (76 sts). K 6, K 2, P 2 across, K last 6 sts.
On next Row, K 3, bind off 2, follow pattern across and work 5 more rows, bind off.
Sew sleeve seams and insert into armhole having a little fullness at top of sleeve.
