MATERIALS: Patwin 4 ply Patonised

Adult Rabbit 3 ozs. Pink and 1 oz. White. Scraps of Rose for embroidery. Two No. 9 Queen Bee Knitting Needles. Kapok for stuffing.

Baby Rabbit 1 oz. Pink and ½ oz. White. Scraps of Rose for embroidery. Two No. 11 Queen Bee Knitting Needles. Kapok for stuffing.

 

MEASUREMENTS:

Adult Rabbit 9 ½ ins. high.

Baby Rabbit 6 ½ ins. high.

 

NOTE:

The Adult Rabbit is worked with double wool throughout and No. 9 needles (For double wool wind 2 balls together into 1 ball).

The Baby Rabbit is worked with single wool throughout and No. 11 needles from same instructions as for Adult, nothing changes written in brackets thus:

SIDES:

Beginning at lower edge, with Pink wool double and No. 9 needles (Baby single wool and No. 11) needles cast on 41 sts.

1st Row: K1. *P1. K1. Repeat from * to end of Row. Repeat this row 9 times. (10 rows even in Moss st. have been worked).

11th Row: Cast off 12 sts. loosely for leg. Moss st. to end of Row. (Back edge).

12th Row: Moss st. to end of Row. (Front edge.)

Continue in Moss st. dec. 1. st. at Front edge on next and every alternate Row to 25 sts. on needle.

Work 2 ins. (Baby 1 inch) even in Moss st. ending at Back edge.

Keeping Front edge even, dec. 1. st. at Back edge on next and every following 4th row to 19 sts. on needle then every alternate Row to 13 sts. on needle, ending at Front edge.

To make head:

1st Row: Cast on 2 sts. Moss st. to end of row.

2nd Row: As 1st. row.

3rd Row: Inc. 1 st. in 1st. st. Moss st. to end of row.

4th Row: Work even in Moss st. Repeat 3rd and 4th rows once. (19 sts. on needle).

7th and 8th rows: As 4th row.

9th Row: Inc. 1. st. in 1st. st. Moss st. to last 2 sts. inc. 1. st. in next st. K1.

10th Row: As 4th row.

11th Row: K2tog. Moss st. to end of row.

12th, 13th and 14th Row: As 4th row.

Keeping continuity of Moss st. dec. 1. st. each end of needle on next and every alternate Row to 12 sts. on needle. Cast off.

Make another piece to correspond.

 

FRONT:

Beginning at lower edge, with White cast on 60 sts.

1st Row: *K1. P1. Repeat from * to last 2 sts. K2 .

2nd Row: K2 . (P1. K1) 13 times. P2tog. K2tog. (P1. K1) 14 times.

3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th rows: As 1st. row.

4th Row: Moss 27. K2tog. P2tog. Moss 27.

6th Row: Moss 26. P2tog. K2tog. Moss 26.

8th Row: Moss 25. K2tog. P2tog. Moss 25.

10th Row: Moss 24. P2tog. K2tog. Moss 24.

11th and 12th rows: Cast off 12 sts. loosely for leg. Moss st. to end of row. (26 sts. on needle).

13th, 15th and 17th rows: Work even in Moss st.

14th Row: K2tog. Moss 9. K2tog. P2tog. Moss 9. K2tog.

16th Row: K2tog. Moss st. to last 2 sts. K2tog.

18th Row: K2tog. Moss 6. P2tog. K2tog. Moss 6. K2tog. (16 sts. on needle).

Work 2 ins. (Baby 1 inch) even in Moss st.

Next Row: Moss 6. P2tog. K2tog. Moss 6.

Work 1 inch even in Moss st. (both sides), then dec. 2. centre sts. as before on next and every following 6th Row to 6sts. on needle. Work 4 rows even. Cast off knitting 2 sts. tog. across row.

HEAD GUSSET:

With Pink cast on 3 sts.

1st Row: K1. P1. K1. Repeat 1st. row twice.

Keeping continuity of Moss st. inc. 1. st. each end of needle on next and every following 4th row to 11 sts. on needle.

Working 2 ins. (Baby 1 inch) even in Moss st. then dec. 1. st. each end of needle on next and every following 4th Row to 3 sts. on needle. Work 3 rows even. Cast off.

 

EARS:

Beginning at tip, with Pink cast on 3 sts.

1st Row: K1. P1. K1. Keeping continuity of Moss st. inc. 1 st. each end of needle on next and every following 8th row to 11 sts. on needle.

Continue even until work from beginning measures 5 ins. (Baby 4 ins.). Cast off. Make another piece to correspond.

 

FRONT LEGS:

With Pink cast on 11 sts. Work 2 ins. (Baby 1 inch) even in Moss st. Cast off. Make another piece the same. Make 2 pieces with White to correspond using 9 sts. instead of 11 sts.

 

TO MAKE UP:

Sew gusset around top of head from tip of nose to base of neck at back.

Sew remainder of back seam.

Sew front seam from tip of nose to throat.

Sew in front, leaving an opening at one side for stuffing, along sides, legs and lower edge.

Sew remainder of pink at base.

Stuff evenly with kapok.

Sew up opening.

Leaving the cast-off edges open, sew a pink and white piece for each front leg together.

Stuff with kapok.

Sew up remainder of seam and sew to body in line with top of front, having the white pieces facing.

Fold ears in half along the length.

With Pink, back stitch along the fold, 1. st. in from fold, to stiffen ears.

Sew to head as illustrated.

With White make a pom-pom for tail and sew to back as illustrated.

With Rose embroider eyes and nose in Satin st.
