Boat Neck Pullover

This pretty pattern worked from rows of seed stitch alternating with an open work pattern is worked on the yoke and sleeves of the pullover, as well as the hat.

The directions are written for size 12 with sizes 14 and 16 in parentheses.  You will need 9 (10, 11) 50 gram balls BereBa Sports pun and numbers 3 and 5 standard knitting needles (or size required for gauge).

Gauge: 6 sts equal 1 inch 8 rows equal 1 inch

BACK: With smaller needles, cast on 105 (113, 121) sts.  Work twisted ribbing (k in back lp of each k st) for 2 ½ inches as follows:

Row 1: K 1, *p 1, k 1, repeat from * across row.

Row 2: P 1, * k 1, p 1, repeat from * across row.

Change to larger needles and work in stockinette (k 1 row, p 1 row) until piece measures 12 ½ (13, 13 ½) or desired length to armhole.  Place marker on first and last sts to mark beginning of armhole. 

Work until armhole measures 4 (4 ½,  5) inches, ending on p side.  Work next 36 rows in pattern as follows:

Pattern Rows: (used in yoke, sleeves)

Work 8 rows in seed st (k 1, p 1,  across each row).

 

Open Pattern:
Row 1: *K 1, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 3, k 2 tog, yo, repeat from across row, ending with k 1.

Rows 2, 4, 6: Purl.

Row 3: *K 2, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 1, k 2 tog, yo, k 1, repeat from * across row, ending with k 1.

Row 5: *K 3, yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, Psso, yo, k 2, repeat from * across row, ending with k 1.

Work 8 rows in seed st.

Repeat 6 rows of Open Pattern.

Work 8 rows in seed st. 

This completes 36 row pattern.

 


K23 (24, 26) sts and sl to holder, k center 59 (65, 69) sts and place remaining 23 (24, 26) sts on holder for other shoulder. 

K 1, p 1 in twisted ribbing on center 59 (65, 69) sts for 4 ½ inches, bind off.

FRONT Work same as back until sts are placed on holders and center 59 (65, 69) sts remain on needle. 

Work in stockinette for 8 rows, bind off. 

With right sides of front and back tog, bind off sts of each shoulder tog.

 


SLEEVES: With smaller needles, cast on 51 (51, 53) sts, work k 1, p 1 twisted ribbing for 3 inches. 

Inc 6 (6, 10) sts evenly spaced on last row of ribbing. 

Change to larger needles, work in stockinette, inc one st each end of needle every 6th row 5 times. 

Then, inc one st each end of needle every 4th row 15 (15, 16) times - 97 (97, 105) sts. 

When sleeve measures 16 (16 ½, 17) inches, work 36 Pattern Rows same as back, bind off.

Finishing: Ease in sleeves between markers on front and back, sew under-arm and sleeve seams.

Turn front neck edge to wrong side and stitch in place. 

Sew side edges of back neck ribbing to front neck edge. 

Work in ends and block as directed on yarn label.
